Why are there so many hackers?

You're creating a false equivalency between hackers and drug dealers. MapleStory does not operate in a limited economy, meaning that hackers are literally generating new currency that does not currently exist and directly injecting it into the economy. The real world equivalent would be a criminal who prints duplicate money, which actually leads to inflation and is in fact bad for the economy.

Also, governments pay for social services and other public goods through taxes. Please find me a drug dealer that pays taxes on their sales. Because I would like to buy from them.

 

As a player who sometimes ventures to odd maps, I can confirm anecdotally. Have not submitted a report-abuse in a while now because I have not seen 1 actively attacking! There are some vac'd maps now and then, to be sure.

 

I hope for society's sake that you never work in economics or in the financial industry. This is also a wonderful reminder that voting is important because people like you determine the fates of countries in a democracy.

The ones who get caught . To the main point, yes I can see that my argument has many flaws in itself. I can propose another way of looking at things is through.. hacking for luxury items. Is it not similar how companies (e.g., Nike) use child labour to lower the cost of items for every day consumers like yourselves to purchase. Inherently, hackers are doing good for the economy as things become more affordable to some people and there are duties that exist on the purchase of those items. Ethically speaking, no it's wrong but in reality things like hacking, abusing, violation will always exist.

No worries, I am in the health care field so I hope it eases your conscience that I am not in the field of economics or finance.

Just because crime exists does not mean its necessary there is way lower rates of crime in asian countries, almost nonexistent in singapore. No murders or drug use. So how is their economy functioning then according to you? Adding cash does not help people LOL it devalues the cash for everyone. Go back to school and study economics

 

I would like to stand by my comment where hacking has a multifactorial impact on economy that is impossible to prevent. =) crimes do cost the government but not ALL crimes cost them money. that statement itself is ignorant

Lol I don't think you looked at it in the bigger picture.
In your real world example, there is no change in money circulation. the thugs do not just create money from thin air. If the central bank doesn't print more notes, the amount of money is the same all the time just that different people owns different portion of it. You aren't wrong about increased cashflow, although only very MARGINALLY, but it creates inequality - only people who dont mind doing illegal stuff gets it.

Relating back to royals,
HACKING = creating mesos from thin air (mob meso drops), you are basically increasing money supply DRASTICALLY, creating hyper inflation, and you call this good? Legitimate players are forced to either farm harder to catch up or just quit.
I honestly don't know why you say its a good thing.

Also the hackers are the source of RWT, which again creates inequality (analogous to the drug traffickers in real)- only people who doesn't mind getting banned will buy a f**k ton of mesos, and then walking around saying "hey look at my 25 atk BFC/FS/BWG"
