If there's going to be a cost, what about when CPQ doesn't return you to where you were? Or when leaving a GM event, it sends you all the way back to Lith Harbor/Henesys?
I think no more than 25-50k is fair, it shouldn't break someone's bank to not want to take 30 minutes traveling to Ludibrium ALONE. The whole fun of travel was having people to talk to, but since there's not that it just seems like a punishment to make the ships the only viable means of transport for those not wealthy enough to throw hundreds of thousands of mesos away.
o god i'd really rather not have transport times. The ONLY good thing / nostalgia was from the amount of players. I remember talking on the boat ride, people buying fame, match cards, hiding from crogs, laughing at people who got fkd by crogs.. Yeah, I do miss that. BUT implementing the boat wouldnt bring those feels back. You would be alone most rides, and if you don't enjoy looking at a static screen by yourself for 11 ~ 25 minutes you're probably just going to alt tab. Waiting for the boats would be awful.. You see that the boat doesnt arrive for another 8 minutes, you get up and go get a hotdog or something, and when you get back, the boat is leaving in <1 minute and its too late.. Also, a higher cost would probably be fine for most players, but it can wreck noobs. I mean having the option would be fine, but imo it shouldn't cost more Seriously, the playerbase isn't large enough for something like boatrides to actually be enjoyable for most people.. I hated lonely boatrides in GMS too :^(
Agreed with David on the price range, but wouldn't it be best to do a poll to find out what the majority opinion is on having working transportation, before discussing prices?
I personally think implementing both and having the instant transportation cost more is a great idea. People are saying that it'll be bad for noobs who don't have enough money and don't want to break the bank and I don't understand where you guys are coming from. Its not like these noobs will be FORCED to pay the ludicrous amounts of money to travel. If I was a noob, money-wise, I'd MUCH rather wait 10-15 minutes and save myself a nice 250k that might have been wasted on an instant travel. As a noob I would WELCOME the idea that there is a significantly cheaper option that only makes me have to wait for a little while longer. And besides, you're only a noob for so long, maybe 2 or 3 days max, and after that you'll probably be making major bank, enough to not care if you're shoveling out 250k just to make it from Ellinia to Orbis. As for the prices themselves, I say make the Ellinia to Orbis ride 250k as the base price, and have that price shift proportionately to the time it takes to get there. (i.e. Ellinia-Orbis = 10 minutes = 250k/ Orbis - Ludi = 5 minutes = 125k). If 250k is still too much for all of you supposedly-rich players then maybe like 150 or 100k? that sounds really fair imo.
.....RiiiiiiiiGHT I think instant traveling should be free as it is right now and instead charge a premium price for boat/train/air-balloon rides. This way people that want to feel the nostalgia can pay to experience it, and the rest of the players can go on with their lives... Plz Matt, there isn't anything "realistic" about this game, and if you want to stay true to the original content and be truly nostalgic then you should also skip ALL customization. Else it becomes speaking from both ends...
Traveling to Orbis on the ship and having the fear of being attacked by Crogs is actually a very nostalgic event for me. I say yes to transportation, but maybe just slightly reduced times. For example: 10 minute ship to Orbis (instead of 30), 7 minute train to Ludi (instead of ~15), 4 minute subway ride to NLC (instead of ~10).
I only would like the boat between Vic and Orbis to work. I don't think there needs to be a higher cost for instant vs boat. Just choose what you want. To avoid the cost on the way back to Victoria, people could just log out and reset their character to Henesys anyway.
I agree. If the server was bustling with people, then yes - boat rides would be bearable (I say that, as I never enjoyed them anyway). But sitting on a boat for 30 minutes alone is hardly fun. Perhaps make them optional, like someone mentioned earlier? I don't think they should be implemented as the only means of transportation though as there just isn't enough people on the server. Chances are you will be on that boat alone.
