"There are people that will always be close to your heart. They are the ones that can do anything, have your heart trampled and you'll still be glad to have them. But they're not toxic nor are they doing it on purpose. They are the ones with this special irreplaceable place and l'm not sure if it's foolish of me to keep such a space but I know for sure it's a semblance of what possibly could be how unconditional love looks like without the potential lashing out."

I wrote this in Jan 2022 and I used to think a heart can be very forgiving, very generous and very resilient, especially to people whom you thought you left a forever spot for - whether family or friends or anyone really. And I definitely thought that was my heart.

But I think as you grow up, there are more things that you desire, and your needs get larger but the space in your heart does not necessarily get bigger. And simultaneously the seemingly never ending unfortunate events hardens and reduces the space in your heart.

And eventually, that once forever spot given to the person that you thought that no matter what happens will remain there, is solidified, filled with the remains of bitterness and hardened of stones.

And I finally understood why my friend once said if she had a super power, it would to be to melt the hearts of people - when I first heard of it, I only thought of it in religious setting. I hadn't experience life's very own medusa and I find myself with lesser space for people I once thought I had all the space for - even after justifying and negotiating with myself for more space to give, to take from yourself to keep those spaces.

Eventually, with a hardened heart, you just have to put yourself first. To put boundaries up towards people who take advantage of forever spaces, and to know your worth enough to take them back when it's time. To eventually start the recovery process of hacking down stones, melting ice to reclaim those spaces for yourself.

So maybe the heart isn't so giving and big but damn it is still resilient.

Finally got around to screwing the heat shield back up under my car before too much snow was on the ground. If I waited any longer I could have found out that it was hanging down the hard way.
