As title. I can't speak for others, but I'm always hesitant to add Mapleroyals to my antivirus exclusions under the reason "trust me it's not a virus" as seen on other threads on this forum. I understand it's a limitation of the src files, with something to do with all private servers. But our biggest competitor ML has their client whitelisted and doesn't trigger antivirus software Maybe it would also help attract newer players as well.
ML and Croosade (rest its soul) has done it, I don't see why the same can't be done for the largest private server on gtop
Sounds like servers have to specifically request for it. Given that other PServers have been whitelisted by Microsoft/Windows defender already, is there any reason for Royals to NOT request for it/work towards it? The justification for adding Royals as an exception "trust me, there's no malware here. look at how many players there are" can't even be proven unless you have deep experience into reverse engineering or whatever, which 99.99% of people don't have I feel like it's not even that much work. Sounds like just a config change or submitting some form to Microsoft or whatever. But I have no experience in these kinds of things
Would like to clarify that I am not against this suggestion/change (getting EXE whitelisted) But if it was that easy, Royals would have done it within these 9 years (the same goes for other servers) For the 2 examples you listed, did they state how they managed to get their EXE whitelisted? Do we simply request Microsoft "please whitelist my game EXE" and that's all?
I don't believe they revealed anything about the process. But from what I've read on this forum and on reddit, antiviruses are triggered because the client points to a different IP than one from the official Nexon servers or something. If it's really just based on this, then it definitely does sound like something as simple as just submitting a request, rather than having to spend a long time rewriting stuff in the codebase. Especially since only the EXE is flagged I could be completely wrong though. I don't have any experience with this outside of reading what others have posted
He meant Royals Staff should do something to not let the EXE trigger the anti-virus so that players may feel safe
I didn't quote properly but ML triggered antivirus for me. Honestly, its a waste of time on Staff part because there's different types of antiviruses and it's pointless to try to go to each one asking for whitelist when all the player needs to do is whitelist the game themselves.
That is true since each anti-virus company would have its own definitions of what's considered a virus (malware) Note: most anti-virus can detect common malware, usually accuracy of 90% or higher I assume threesat suggestion is intended for Microsoft's Windows Defender only
