    Hello royallers,

As we make continued efforts to combat real world trade in collaboration with the playerbase through reports, investigations, logs and patrols there's been one field that many consider a 'grey area' when it comes to trading and making money and that is players being open to actively making deals with real world traders for their own profits in the billions of mesos. In these cases the real world traders get to launder goods on their alternate low level characters and the players get to make a lot of money as they get to negotiate a trade far under market value due to the position the real world trader is in (they can't openly sell items on the forum with a new account for example or they risk getting banned easily).
We would like to to stop these types of transactions of dubious sources and pin down real world trade even harder with the introduction of moderate infraction #8 today:

    Moderate Infractions:
Punishment: First offense - 14 day ban, Second offense - Permanent ban.

    8. Handling real world trade goods - The act of orchestrating high value trades with suspicious individuals for large profits without doing your due diligence on their background.
First offense also includes the removal of the goods or total of the equivalent value that was traded for. You will not get your original items back.

    The Breakdown:
    8. Handling real world trade goods -
This rule was added to make it more difficult for real world traders to launder their goods and to prevent players from profiting off of 'cheap' rwt deals. For the purpose of this rule 'High value' is considered 5 billion mesos or higher. You're expected to do your due diligence on any trade you plan to make that's valued over 5 billion mesos by utilizing questions like the ones provided below:
    • What is their forum account?
    • Who are their main characters?
    • Can they contact you from those accounts?
    • Around how long have they been playing?
    • Why are they selling what they are selling?
    • Does it make sense for them to have these goods comparatively to their MapleRoyals progress?
    • Is there a forum thread on this item to get the best offer? If not, why not?
    • Any of these points not making sense? inform staff prior to trading

Any of these points not making sense and something feels off? Do not make the trade and feel free to report the user on the forums here.

Players knowingly and repeatedly making suspicious trades with suspicious characters and/or making a single extremely high-valued suspicious trade that had garnered them a significant amount of mesos and/or advantage are still subject to this rule.

You risk the chance to get temporarily banned and have your goods removed without getting anything back if there's no sign of you doing your due diligence and the trade you made was too good to be true with a real world trade related character.
You will not get banned or have goods removed if you made legitimate effort in your due diligence and proceeded with the trade where later on the person you traded with turned out to be a real world trader that had you fooled.
This rule does not include items sold in free market merchants since the limit is 5 billion mesos. Additionally, this rule does not include leech services (pending the service was actually provided).
Staff reserves the right to permanently ban you for your first offense depending on the severity of the trade(s) and their value.

What does this mean for me as a player?
In short it means that you have to know that you're making trades with another legitimate player if you participate in high value trades worth over 5 Billion by doing your due diligence and checking their background otherwise you risk getting banned with heavy losses on top.
You can still merch, make profits and offers of any kind, share equipment with friends or guildies etc. as long as you have a good understanding of who you're dealing with and you can show that you looked into their background according to the checklist. Even if the person you traded with does end up being a real world trader, you and your goods are safe from banning and removal if you did your best to look into them and they seemed legit at the time.
We understand that you can't investigate or stop anyone from purchasing expensive items from your hired merchant so the rule doesn't apply there.
You can read all the Game Terms & Conditions here

Some players are currently banned for investigations regarding what's described in this new game rule. Since this field was considered a 'grey area' prior to the introduction of this rule we will be giving them their first offense 14 day temporary ban as a punishment where suited, however to show leniency we will not be removing their goods this time only.

If there are any questions on this topic feel free to post them below and we will try our best to answer them.

You may read our response to the feedback in this thread here.

    Happy Mapling!

This is just dumb. How the hell am i supposed to know who i'm dealing with? Nobody checked anything 2003-2010 pre bb patch ( and nobody still does) who they are trading with. If i'm buying for example something worth 1.5 bil and someone trades me via chat, i'm 100% gonna trade it if it's my own mesos i earned with 100% legal way. I don't care about the other guy, it's GM's job to investigate it not mine. Why ruin a good nostalgic gameplay with mindless shit like this? I'm too busy ( and not giving a shit ) who i trade my chaos scrolls or what ever with. Instead of fixing major issues this server has compared to Leg and other servers, you wouldn't have major RWT issues to begin with. Such amateur programmers you guys are coming from a guy who studies CS major at one of the top universities in my country. I understand buying expensive stuff from FM is advised, but the gameplay doesn't feel nostalgic if all i have to do is check the other guy first. Also isn't 14 days too harsh for someone who just comes for a nostalgic trip? We all played maplestory back in the days and nobody has pulled circus clown shit like this. Instead of fixing the actual problem you could stop RWT easily over 50%. This server is also mega easy for noobs to gain mesos and items anyways. Also hackers, vote abusers, botters, multi clienting farmers etc still roam this server, not to mention other problems.

How dare you say happy mapling? This isn't mapling to me anymore. This should be called RuleStory or JailStory instead.

    • What is their forum account? Most players don't even use forum / have a forum account, forcing one to have is just dumb. 90% of my buddylist never even owned a forum account.
    • Who are their main characters? Too busy to ask someone for this.
    • Can they contact you from those accounts? Why would they? Most players trade and never see each others again, that's how it's always been since 2003.
    • Around how long have they been playing? No time to ask this, mind is wandering through other things in game anyways to even come up with shit like this.
    • Why are they selling what they are selling? Because they want mesos or your items duh? What the actual f*** ?
    • Does it make sense for them to have these goods comparatively to their MapleRoyals progress? Jesus...
    • Is there a forum thread on this item to get the best offer? If not, why not? Leading to first question and answer ^
    • Any of these points not making sense? inform staff prior to trading Yeah like anyone is gonna seriously gonna ask these unless it's super end game item.

Not everyone is a GM and asking + investigating all these questions is a mega red flag for this server. Not everyone share the same language, have the intelligence to even ask / memorize these questions. You can still easily fuckin scam players even with these questions being asked. This is just a waste of time when trading someone since most trades are done quickly. This all leads to GM being lazy investigating RWT players. Instead of fixing the problem and punishing the RWT guy, you literally gonna punish normal players now too?

How does this work with regards to buying and selling of leech valued over 1B? Not that it is very common as even at petris/skele that would be 8 hours of leech.

So those players who got banned for this new rule due to trading with suspicious RWTers?
If they pay a reasonable amount of price, why would they still get banned? Or is it because they bought it much cheaper than the average price from RWTers to get a profit?
If they do the same thing but also report them right after, does that means they won't get banned + keep the profit from RWTers?

As the leech seller you could simply run the same checklist prior to leeching them / accepting the 1B for the service

They paid way under market value to profit a lot from real world traders.
If you were to make trades now and report right after you would still get banned for you deducted that you shouldn't deal with them based on your due diligence check which lead you to report them.

Imagine getting banned for not RWT woah. I'm pretty serious most players are gonna quit this crappy RuleRoyals after getting banned for no reason.

@Aqwrd i agree with you, i wont even consider this tbh unless it's something really really expensive.

What if you could create a channel on your discord server where we could:
    - connect our discord acc- forum acc - in game chars
    - with a command like /checkign awex we would get basic informations you want us to deliver in case of sus trade, like forum acc age, link to that forum acc and list of chars this acc is connected to
    - check if that ign was banned previously and reason behind that ban

Personally i wouldnt mind typing "/checkign xxx' on discord before every 'high value" trade and do those trades from specific 2-3 chars but thats just my opinion and i dont know how doable is that from your side.

In path of exile, community created a discord channel "The forbidden trove" where you can do trades and check other ppl (ofc not everyone cuz its not official channel)

Not everyone uses a forum account or even discord dude.. having one as mandatory thing to play this server is just not fair and it's dumb. Also checking someone's ign doesn't change anything, you can always scam players + most players don't really care as long as they get their desired item ( unless it's super expensive item that costs billions ). Not to mention privacy.. you wouldn't have anymore privacy if you had access to other player's character information.

I was banned for purchasing a 23 att sock from a lvl 30 char for items valued between 145-150b total, when Tim responded to me in a PM saying that this item was worth 170b. I do agree that the individual I was interacting with was suspicious, but I still conducted some level of due diligence with them by asking what their main characters were and their forum account. He responded to me by saying that he has a 200 NL, 200 BS, and other 150+ chars but he does not wish to disclose them. So my question with this new rule in place is:

    1. What do we do in a scenario where someone wishes to conduct a trade with a mule character that they hold mesos with, but does not wish to disclose their main characters? I ask this because one of my main sources of making mesos in this game is flipping attack gears that I see people selling through smega, and a lot of the times, I'm met with trades from mule characters. For all these trades, I ask why they're not trading on their main character, and they respond by saying that this is where they hold all their mesos and they do not wish to disclose their main IGNs. What do we do here? If we can't find any information on them because they choose not to reveal, do we just not conduct the trade at all to be safe?

    2. Are we supposed to run through this checklist for buying ws/cs too if someone trades us 4, since it's considered over a 1b threshold? I think more clarification is needed to the game rules rather than just anything worth over 1b, since ws/cs is a very common form of liquidated payment.

But it does apply when you want to buy something from someone else's hired merchant?

I understand that you want to combat the Royals' equivalent to money laundering, something that I fully sympathise with, and I understand that some sort of due diligence might – or perhaps even should – be expected for high value items (high value yet to be determined); e.g. buying a 20atk cape for 3b from a random lvl 50 leading to a rwt ban wouldn't surprise me.

But these sorts of inquiries make no sense when the limit is set at such a low level as 1 billion mesos.

I don't doubt that the staff is doing as well as they can with the limited time available, to make Royals better. Policing (bans & ban appeals), working on events, balancing, new content, regular maintenance, discussions, more behind-the-scenes-work that I don't know about, etc. Now you're asking us to involve staff in trades worth as little as 1 billion mesos. Going forward, how is this workload going to affect everything else the staff is already doing?

So this only applies to anything where we are gaining a significant upper hand on a trade? And therefore wouldn't apply to trades of reasonably equivalent value?

I ask because it would be quite a bit of research to do for *every* 1b+ trade. But could be reasonable if things seemed fishy.

For the players who are not of endgame stature, why not just make the rule of X item that has Y value be posted on forums for minimum Z time before being sold? The newer players who don't give a rat's ass about forums/disc shouldn't have these super expensive items anyway unless they experience an egregious amount of luck CSing, in which they should have 1-2 pieces depending on playtime.

Personally, why in the fuck would anyone want to check the seller's forums history/char levels/ssn/cc statements if they are just normal players? What is the point of having a GM that handles RWT at this point? I believe most of the people who are even buying these items legitimately are on their way out and quitting or only play if a friend is playing, in which if they find a deal where they have the mesos for, they will want to just take it without doing an excessive amount of work.

No feedback thread has even been made about this either so this rule really came out of nowhere and with this much backlash, are you really going to have to rework it or deal with another feedback thread that will drag on for weeks that will constantly prove that the GMs have a knack for shoving in new TnC rules whenever they find it convenient? Are we going to make it mandatory to SS every trade we do along with the whole process we took in order to investigate in order to prove that we did our 'due diligence?' Just my 2cents but this ruling has too many holes in my opinion and causes more trouble than it is worth for the average player.

Is there going to be an official price guide by staff?
Theres a lot of high end items with extremely variable prices. A lot of people wipe their sale threads after selling (could change now but rip for items that appear in the market like once or twice a year) and a lot of these items get exclusively traded between veteran guilds / players so their real value is even harder to determine. What I consider market value might be far off what staff considers market value since they have access to a lot more information than I do.

pretty sure the RWTer would be banned but you wont because you asked them their main and why they were selling on their mule. Also the RWTer could EASILY lie to you about having lvl 200s we as a player base cannot know for sure on if they're telling the truth on the highlighted questions

This rule is dumb. Ive been trying to sell my bow for a few weeks, i dont even play anymore. If i get to sell it under market value ill get banned because i dont have time to check how much does my bow or the cs ws are worth.
This is on the gms end to manage not the casual player base.
    Pls do better.

What about the traceability of the trades?

if I did a good trade with someone who I deemed legit a year ago and he was banned for RWT later, what will happen?

What about the moving prices of CS/WS in those trades? (last month went between 380m and 470m)
