1) Will this be ban-able if no one is offended?

i.e. Someone said the n-word it to me, but i'm not offended, (in lets say FM 7 by ourselves), however a GM is in hide there. Does this constitute in a ban?

2) Is there no way to implement a chat ban or jail time or a warning system? A 3 day ban is quite harsh, and i'm afraid it would hold some players back from joining/playing the server. (Even rasher than nexon!)

3) Will you be banned for screaming penis.

4) Can you report someone for saying the N-word in buddy or guild chat if you are offended?

5) Will phrases like these result in bans if a GM sees them? Even if everyone is just joking around having a fun time and laughing?

Well... poopie. I guess poopie is the only word I can use to describe this and not get banned.

 

I am against this/this is stupid.
We are not a community full with 6 years olds. Most of our community is grown up and won't get offended that easily, in addition to that many of us use swear words in jokes or cause they like to make stupid and senseless sentences for fun.

If you don't want people to use these words just go nexon style and forbid em, but don't ban us for smth like that.
And if I think about it, going nexon style would be childish and stupid too..

I find it quite ridiculous that we all have to be treated like we're twelve. If a person is offended, I don't see why they can't just go to the forums and report the player rather than being banned on the spot whereas if a GM breaks a rule they're given leeway. To the players, this looks like a double standard.
Why is a GM, that clearly broke a rule,

Engage in rude, unlawful, harassing, vulgar, obscene, hateful, threatening, abusive or otherwise objectionable behavior, including, without limitation, looting, kill stealing, making sexual comments; Punishment: 1st offence - 3 day ban, 2nd offence - 7 day ban, 3rd offence - permanent ban

not taken care of, like the rest of the mapleroyals community usually is?

It's like this is most games, words that are considered bad are censored out, and this is no different. Just because we're a smaller, more tightly-knit community doesn't mean we should treat these words differently. I don't mind them being against the rules.

 

John, one thing you didn't mention in your clarification post - does this affect what is/isn't allowable on the forum? For example, we've been having quite a lively debate of a sexual nature on a thread in General Discussion. Are we now expected to refrain from such discussions on the forum?

 

I'm speechless, the minimum age for this server is 13 years old.
Even PG13 movies say fuck and penis and ******.

There is also the issue of the double standard stated her, how do you plan to manage us if you can't even manage your own GMs?

People play this game to have fun, this becoming the opposite.

I hope this is subject to change, because i'll be creating a referendum after i'm not IP banned form the forums anymore. I hope you will take some of my suggestions into account. Or i'm afraid you will be losing me. (maybe a good thing?)

Just to highlight some of the points I will be focusing on:
1) Regarding guild + buddy chat - use of ****** or sexual conduct.
If you don't like it, delete them/leave the guild.
2) Jail time / Chat ban instead of 3 day ban
3) This is a nostalgic server, most of us are 16+ and can take words such as penis or vagina, to make sure, I would suggest moving the age limit for the server to 16/18.
4) ******/Cracker/Chink - Banned in smegas, subject to ban report in all chat. However GMs are not allowed to personally report these claims, they should be objective, players should be the ones reporting if they are insulted.

Report claims should also only be made after asking the person to stop! If you don't like something ask them nicely!

What is the point in banning if no one is offended?

 

I've always meant the rules on this server were too strict.
I'm not gonna lie, this stupid rule about what you're allowed to say made me almost quit several times. Like when you banned me for calling horntail black.

 

Since any reference to genitalia and/or acts involving the aforementioned is bannable, let's just replace penis with pipe and vagina with vessel. Do this with all the bannable words, until they realise how retarded this is.

If a consensus appears for the words above (pipe, vessel) - ie most people understand what 'pipe' and 'vessel' "mean" - will these words become bannable too?

 

I've been on message boards where every possibly "objectionable" word gets automatically changed to "thingy".

There's a suggestions in Ty's post and I'm gonna retype it.
Lower the punishment to a warning or jail/chat ban. 3days/7days/perm ban for saying ***** in a friendly manner is an OVERKILL. And everyone but the GMs, unfortunately, knows it.

Oh, and I have already suggested this 10 times before.

 

I understand where you're coming from, but I hope you understand that everything you've just written is an opinion, your personal perspective. Not only that, but your perspective imposes a moral judgment on the fine members of this server -- You are saying that using certain words are bad. Just realize that these words are not bad. It's just that from your perspective, you don't like them.

I share a similar perspective in part. I personally feel strongly against the use racial or homophobic slurs, even in joking contexts. But I can acknowledge that not everyone shares the same opinion. I can tell your right now that I have left servers before due to the insane amount of this. You have no idea what some other Maple servers are like if you think that Royals has a real 'problem.'

On the other hand, my perspective is very different when it comes to anything sexual. Sex is not only a normal part of life -- In many social groups, sex is a common topic and is commonly joked about.

But regardless of what you think, or what I think, or what anyone thinks: the 'argument' you make here is not an argument. You are simply expressing your opinion. There definitely are ways to argue against the use of racial slurs and extreme sexual context -- But you nor any GM have made that argument and I don't believe that anyone will be satisfied until you explicitly say why this rule and attitude improve the server more than it harms the server.

 

Btw why is it that I've been called a shemale for a humongous amount of times, allthough this was for fun, isn't this like homophobic? Why doesn't Ali insta-ban people for saying that?

 

I wouldn't say this (the complaints) is mostly about not being allowed to use the N-word, it's that using any kind of "unnecessary expletive" is now bannable. How the hell is "penis" offensive? Sure, you may think it's immature but that's your opinion. You thinking something is unnecessary or immature is a very weak reason for a rule to be implemented in my opinion, and I'm sure many agree with me on this.

"Unnecessary" = subjective
"Expletive" = really? Penis, vagina, boobs, blow job. How are they expletives that cause offence to anybody?

There is a difference if someone is harassing someone by spamming these words or asking for sexual favours (without joking) or whatever, but that's something entirely different; that is no reason for the words being bannable on their own.

Not to mention, with the new rule, (or clarification, whatever you'd like to call it) if 3 people are in a map by themselves, chatting about genitalia - a GM can ban them if s/he is in hide mode. Why on Earth would they be banned? Because the GM was "offended"?
