Ingame announcement of unscheduled GM events

    Being a person that enjoys participating in events, I've always tried to stay online or login during the 'usual' time that GMs host an event. However, I've missed multiple events just by a few minutes or sometimes a split second because of the sudden notice which allows players only 2 minutes to join an event..

    As a suggestion, GM's could announce that they are going to host an event in a specific amount time like 15 minutes to allow interested players more time to get prepared to join the event (They did this before but not very often).

    I agree that this is helpful (and is occasionally done, especially by aly.) and generates more event hype when I can get on skype and tell my guildmates to log in.

    It also helps a bit with the issue that these announcements dont show on some channels some of the time, when smegas are bugged. The longer period of time announcements are going out, the greater the likelihood I'll cc and see one.

    Posting to get some specificity on what players want out of event notices, then:

    Yesterday, I hosted my first event as a GM (three months after hire, lol) I had announced it a couple of times to "make hype" of a coming event about an hour before I started it, and again maybe 10 minutes before. What are your opinions on that? Should we be doing notices more than that, less than that? Should we be giving a specific time, or remain general?

    As for missing events by a couple of seconds, you're welcome to whisper the host of the event (their name will be in the event notice, or you can ask a friend who's in the event already who that is) and we can help you if you barely missed out. Once the event has actually started, that goes out the door, but if it's seconds or even minutes sometimes as you say, you'd still have a good shot!

    Yes it would be nice to have notices at regular intervals 1 hour before the event.. And if possible.. a specific time so that players will know exactly when to mark their clock.

    I thought your announcements were very helpful and that you made an appropriate number of them. The chat box is so often filled with things I don't want to see; messages like yours are a breath of fresh air. I think that a specific time is too much to ask of GMs. General times are fine by me, at least.
