I noticed that the game gives out autobans for such trivial things as dropping a chair while sitting on it, and thought "Why not autoban FM glitchers?". The game designers of MapleStory didn't want players to jump up and down and open a shop in a tiny space, hence they added a popup window that says "You can't jump and open a store" when someone tries to do this. However they didn't do a good job of coding it and left a glitch where if someone just keeps spamming it anyway, a shop will open eventually. This is not trivial or harmless as some staff members apparently still think. Glitcher opening a shop in a small space means the people who own the shops next to him will not be able to renew their stores and they will lose their spot, unless they also know about and abuse this glitch. Basically the glitcher is stealing a spot from someone else. It's unsavory behavior. BTW it doesn't have to be an autoban, simply D/Cing a person who tries to jump and open a shop will work just as well. Whatever is easier to implement.
In my opinion you should only be allowed 24 hours per room. Don't be greedy. If anything the amount of horizontal space needed to be allowed to create a shop should be reduced . That would allow people to squish more shops together without having to worry about people jump glitching.
+1 No autoban though lol we have enough of those. Also anyone who has the dedication to come on and reset their shop every 24 hours deserves to stay there in my opinion. There will be server resets and they'll lose their spot eventually anyways it's inevitable
I think something should be done about it, but definitely not an auto ban. A d/c or just better coding (new source hype?) should be good enough. Though honestly people who open shops on top of another person's shops are the real assholes of this story.
Just to make things sure, can person B intervene a spot that person A was still setting up and open his/her shop?
By using the glitch they can open a shop on any other spot they like. So even after person A has already had that spot for a longer time
thats not even a little bit true. there are very few, very specific spots that this allows you to open in, most of which had 90% of the required space for a shop already, and the need for jumping could have been avoided by the original shop owners spacing their shops better in the first place.
Okay I didn't know that it works only for narrow spaces. But why are there shops who overlap like 50% or more?
The reason the chair glitched is autobanned is because it can be used to dupe chairs. The case of that FM glitch is not as damaging as a dupe glitch. If you feel that someone opened a store in your spot you should call a gm to close their store. At most we should make it a bannable offence to use that glitch but making it autobannable could open a potential problem were it accidentally bans people at the FM for opening their stores.
Add a check at Open Store > all problems solved. Unless this is about a different problem and I misunderstand, but that one is how to solve overlapping issues, super easy to add a check for.
Someone explain this to me please... because imo you have to be a huge dickhead to brag about fm3 hype when you put your shop on top of someone... no one was there when i opened my store
The only way for someone to overlap your store that much is for them to have been there while you were opening yours as well. Maybe you just didnt see them with your inventory window open. Edit: If your store is inaccessible, do ~gm (in a few hours when more of us are around) to have both stores closed.
This topic has been discussed so many times already, so I think it's necessary to re-iterate the same statement we've been giving every time. The way Hired Merchants are currently coded makes it difficult to fix; the source overhaul should fix this problem. Until then,
