Gear progression is something that is often asked about in our community, so with this guide I will go through the basics while also sharing some examples of how one could go about upgrading their gear.
Mages please refer to this guide for tips on progression.

    Disclaimer:
This is just based on my personal opinions and should not be treated as "THE" way to progress, but rather serve as inspiration. If you find a good deal on an item before you reach that "stage", don't be afraid to go for it.

Please check out the FAQ at the end of the guide for more information.

    Equips
Make sure to grab these during the events they are available from for smoother progression.

    • Rudolph's Shiny Nose from the Christmas event.
    • 2 Carat Lovebirds Wedding Ring from the Valentine's event.
    • Circle of Ancient Strength/Thought from the Summer event.
    Optional:

    • Anniversary Earrings from the Anniversary event.
    • Zombie Army Ring from the Halloween event.
    • Pumpkin Pie Ring from the Thanksgiving event.
    Off-event alternatives:
    • Rat mouth
    • Maple Leaf
    • Ephenia's Ring
    • Ring of the Alchemist
These play a crucial role in providing the secondary stats you will need to progess, Always try to improve these!.

    • Zakum Helmet from Zakum.
    • Almighty Ring from Krex.
    • White/Yellow/Blue/Red/Black belt from Mu Lung Dojo.
    • Horntail Necklace from Horntail.
    • Mark of Narcain from Crimsonwood Keep Party Quest.
    Optional:
    • Scarlion Hat (STR/DEX) From the Furious Scarlion Boss.
    • Targa Hat (LUK/INT) from the Furious Targa Boss.
    • Ifia's Ring from Rose Garden.
    • Glittering Altair Earrings from Ellin Forest Party Quest.
    • Epheneia's Ring From Ellin Forest Party Quest.

Note: Horntail Necklace are for Night Lords and Shadowers but can also be a good investment for others until you get a good Mark of Narcain. For all other jobs, Mark of Narcain is the best choice.
These provide you with a small boost, invest as much time into these as you see fit.

    • Master Adventurer
    • Ellin Forest Guardian
    • Level 200 Medal
    • Master Collector
    • Legendary Collector
    Optional:
    • Quest Specialist (Shadower only!.)
    • Quest Virtuoso (Shadower only!.)
C/G/S stands for Cape/Glove/Shoe and are vital to improving your damage, as they provide you with weapon attack. The majority of your meso will go into these.
    • Pink Adventurer Cape
    • Pink Gaia Cape
    • Blackfist Cloak
    Optional:
    • Taru Spirit Cape (Warriors only!.)
    • Brown Work Gloves
    • Stormcaster Gloves
    Optional:
    • Green mittens
    • Red Sock
    • Facestompers
    • Von Leon's Boots

Note: C/G/S with a lower level requirement are generally more expensive, so I'd strongly recommend buying the higher level ones.

    Progression stages
Nothing! Try to buy a Zakum helmet at level 50 and maybe throw a few 60% scrolls on your maple weapon and glove. You can equip a Horntail Necklace from Horntail at level 120.
At this stage your main goal is to ensure you have enough stats to equip your weapon, this means buying top/bot/overall/earrings/face as well as working on your early untradables like htp/mon/belt. Use a maple pyrope weapon until then.

The most common earrings are Single Earring and Element Pierce, buy one that provides you with secondary stats unless you are a warrior that doesn't use a Stonetooth Sword, then you will want an earring that gives you STR.

IMPORTANT: Do not rely on cape/glove/shoe for stats, As they become very important in the next phase.
    • 2B weapon.
    • 30-35 C/G/S.
    • Top/bottom/overall/earring from previous stage
    • Scrolled Zakum helmet with atleast 18+ primary stat and 30+ DEX. (18+ STR for Archers, Corsair and Shadowers!.)
    • Scrolled Almighty ring 6/3 or higher.
    • 6+ Weapon attack Mark of Narcain / 25+ LUK Horntail Necklace.
    • Scrolled Dojo belt.
    • Any available event equips.

We start by buying a 2B weapon, which is good enough to use until you decide to buy a perfect one.
For jobs that have shields, this will be the point to get one for around 500m-1bil.
C/G/S are the main source of weapon attack after your weapon, So as you reach 135 you will want to invest into these. Aim for 15 attack stormcaster gloves and whatever blackfist cloak and facestompers you can buy in fm by owling for under 2 bil each.

Here your untradables starts becoming really important. Start by getting an Almighty Ring from Krex, scroll the ring with a 30% and try to finish it off with a 60% scroll, grab and scroll a Red/Black belt. Try to get any available event untradables or off event alternatives. Join Crimsonwood Party Quest and get yourself a good Mark of Narcain or run Horntail depending on your job to replace your initial pendant.
    • 2B weapon.
    • 35-50 C/G/S.
    • 1-2B invested in every equip.
    • Scrolled Zakum helmet with atleast 20+ primary stat and 32+ DEX. (20+ STR for Archers, Corsair and Shadowers!.)
    • Scrolled Almighty ring 8/3 or higher.
    • Scrolled Ifia's ring 5+ main stat.
    • 7-8 Weapon attack Mark of Narcain / near perfect Horntail Necklace.
    • Scrolled Black belt/2 Weapon attack Von Leon belt.
    • Most/all event equips.
You should consider buying a perfect weapon by this point, you will also want to continue investing in your C/G/S. As your C/G/S upgrades start reaching 2-3B per upgrade, you should start looking at your other equips like top/bot/overall/earrings in order to reduce any secondary stat you invested your AP into. Aim for 1-2B invested in each of your equips, The majority of your meso should be invested in your C/G/S and a perfect weapon.
Now is also a good time to fill any empty slots like Eye Accessory.

Mark of Narcain/Horntail necklace should be top priority for you if you don't already have a good one by this point.
New at this stage is Ifia's ring, either 30% or use a special chaos scroll on a 2/2 ring to fill your final ring slot.
Replace your dojo belt with a Von Leon belt if you have enough secondary stats to still equip your weapon afterwards.

    FAQ, tips and special thanks
Why do I not go into specific stats when I mention items? Since the economy is always changing, I thought it was better to instead go by price in order to keep this guide relevant for a longer time.
Didn't you just say that you wouldn't mention stats? 15 attack gloves are the exception to the rule, As they can easily be made by using special 100% event scrolls on a 5 slot Stormcaster Gloves, making them the most common starting boss glove available on the server.
Why 2B? I consider 2B to be the sweet spot for most gear because it can be sold in FM at that price point, making buying/selling them accessible.
Buying 2B+ weapons is fine, but I wouldn't invest more than 5B on a weapon for a character you wish to main, 5B+ is a pain to sell and should really only be considered for mules. To make your upgrade into a perfect weapon as smooth as possible, I don't recommend spending too much on your weapon until you're ready to get a perfect one.
For every job that has the option to pick between these, The answer is always top and bottom, As they provide crucial secondary stats. An overall should first be considered at a much later stage.
Never stop working on your untradables.

Lower your base secondary stat as your gear improves.

Use a Targa/Scarlion Hat while you try to get a good Zakum helmet. Zakum can drop up to 5 helmets, while Targa/Scarlion only drops 2 each, so finding your long term helmet will be much easier.

Consider item rarity when deciding what your next upgrade will be, a rare item that improves your range less could be a better investment than a common item that improves it more.

4-5 main stat = 1 weapon attack depending on job and funding.

Scroll pet equips for additional speed/jump or HP.
Keep an eye out for how much dex and accuracy the top/bottom you buy has, As accuracy may become a problem down the line.

Consider scrolling your own warrior glove before you move on to a 15 attack glove, As a high STR warrior glove comes cheap and requires no secondary stat to equip.

Special thanks to @Nivi @Gifflar @Solsticio for their feedback.

This guide is a work in progress(ion) and will be improved in the following months, with a major focus on the untradables section.
