A few months ago, the game client got the ability to patch itself in some ways (specifically, it updates the exe and a dll file, but not the wz/img files). Before we had this functionality, trying to connect to the server with outdated files would give an error and prevent you from launching the game, letting people who don't pay attention to forums/discord know they need to update. This auto patch seems to break that, likely because it's checking a value in the game/dll file. I request this feature be brought back, either through adding a new file that isn't auto updated to track the data files version, or through some server logic to say what exe/dll file updates are allowed. I've seen quite a few people just not realize they need new files on patches, and since playing with outdated files can result in a permanent ban it'd really suck for someone to not realize and get banned for it. It's also caused occasional issues with NPC positioning (anyone remember that one NPC in henesys being in a weird spot in some channels ages back?)
Another patch, another 30 people in discord and shoutbox needing help because they didn't realize they needed to update.
