    Hey everybody,
I'd like to discuss the topic of drops in the current state of the server~

Note that this is my personal opinion only so feel free to agree or disagree with me regardless :)

I feel that the rates are too high for the majority of the mobs you can encounter with the following issues:
    - Equipment drops are insane, i manage to fill my entire 96 slots in 15-20 minutes of relaxed farming (Not including event drops like roses) - A direct result of inflation increase by NPCing.
    - Potion drops are never "rewarding" as i'd like to see a pack of 1-4 like some bosses do. OGMS implemented this way after BB but i think the server can benefit from it partially.
    - Scrolls drop too often, deem any 10%, 60% worthless. This really annoyed me when i first started playing, as anything i got was unsellable and i struggled to even get some money.
    - Meso drops are so-so, i do understand it meant to motivate new players but again, inflation increase.
    - Unique etc drops are actually fine as glass shoes, flaming feathers, ice cubes, honey etc are really hard to come by.
    - Monster cards for collection book drop very frequently for low level mobs, i guess it supposed to work like this?

In conclusion, i think the triple drop rate really hurts the general economy, narrowing whatever you can sell and what can be even in a slight demand.
Epic equips (Blue names), throwing stars, scrolls, ores, materials are literally worthless... I would appreciate more diverse market and economy where nothing comes by so easily.
There should be more ways to increase drop rate for players who want to have it that way with nx coupons, special events, buffs, etc.

I don't understand why you complain about mobs dropping too many equips while complaining about scrolls being worthless and you struggle to even get some money.

Talking about scroll price, it's also about the server's long history.
As an old server, ordinary equipment would be less valuable cuz the server is creating tons of them every year.
In the past weapon 60% scrolls could be sold for 1m. Now they are 50-200k.
In the past INT scrolls and equipments are expensive, now cheap. Just an example:
20 INT bathrobe was ~400m; now less than 200m. The server could have created thousands of 20 INT bathrobes.
OA INT 60% used to be 16m and ppl regularly farm at bone fish for them. Now OA INT 60% is 1~2m.
According to https://royals-library.netlify.app/use/id=2040513, not much is changed but the price is much lower.

Potions like power elixir drop rate was nerfed. This is suggesting the opposite.

    -----------------------------
I'm even more confused why you are asking about 24 BWG (~60b).......

    That's because 30%s and event 100%s exist

This isn't a supply issue, it's a demand issue. Red cravens drop at one of the most popular farming maps AND a popular leeching map and yet a perfect one is still 700m. The issue with most of these is that no one uses them.

Personally I'm very much in favor of adding more uses to ores.

@Zenoooo My suggestion regarding the potion drops might be wrongly understood as i suggested monsters in general would drop stacks of potions i.e 1 drop of 6 pots (stacked) instead of 6 drops of 1 pot.

100% agree with potions dropping in stacks of 1-5, that would be great. Same when using steal, little stacks would be great, as well as magic and summoning rocks, small stacks of those as well when dropping/using steal please, 1-3 with slight droprate loss. No stacks when using ultis however.

The real problems with equips is maple weapons and zhelms. Tbh, zhelm should be 120-135. Zhelm invalidates all helm equips starting as early as level 50. So from 8/10, to 49, is the only time you might wear an actual class helm, and even then, you're going to use a classless equip, same for almost all gear except maybe til you get secondary stats to wear 80/90+ for top/bot/overall, where even near perfect equips are almost worthless.

Maple weapons make all ap builds obsolete, also none of them should give accuracy, no effort at all, just free, abundant w.att, and they drop nonstop all year round. If they only dropped sometimes, like on the weekends, or certain weeks during events, or Anni, or just had a much lower drop rate, then we would see a big boost to both them and normal weapons, and rough take, but ultis shouldn't drop maple weapons either, sorry! Farming/leeching will be fine

Boosting acc on normal class helms and gloves will also balance this totally slumped end of the equip market

Also hi, bosshunter equips exist! Please give them stimulators (dropped from bosses) and boost their stats and accuracy, and people will actually make and use them until they get a zhelm.

Zhelm in reality is just a secondary stat booster for 99% of users who get it at 50. This would boost bosshunter/pirate helms as well as pirate token scrolls.

There also needs to be an opt in/out for event drops. getting item ignore nx and using its slots shouldn't be the workaround if ppl don't wanna deal with useless event etcs/equip/use/quest junk

They're also really annoying to get, but they certainly look good. The warrior/bowman/pirate boots are pretty good since they're the only shoe that gives health (I think), but the rest are pretty lame. 5/5 on the overall, I think 3/3 on the helm. The helm is definitely not worth the effort outside of having it as a trophy.

I'm in favor of the spirit behind your suggestions, but it's probably far too late to implement some of them. Changing the level requirement would cause a lot of problems, but maybe increasing the minimum level requirement to go to zak would be better received. People won't like to have their zhelms ripped off their lower-level characters. New characters would have to deal with no zak until whatever the new minimum would be.

It just really sucks that something like 80% of the equipment in this game is completely pointless because of all the easily obtained best-in-slot items. I was considering scrolling an acceptable pirate hat recently, but I did the math and realized my scrolled pierre helm is so good that the pirate hat can't beat it. And every helmet I pick up while farming gets instantly sold without a thought because there's no point. CGS is poisoned by NLC existing. Gloves, SCG or FKC; capes; BFC, CHC, maybe Taru spirit cape if you count the lore tying it to Masteria; shoes, FS and I don't think mages have a shoe drop from NLC. Then there's armor which people only want if the secondary stat is low enough. No one wants mage overalls higher than a calas because they won't dare to add any LUK to their mage builds, even though higher level overalls add a lot to a mage's survivability. And equipment that requires LUK might also add LUK, so you can keep piling it on until you can wear the level 163 staff and still have a big TMA at the end.

But what's the solution to the lost continent of Masteria ruining the equipment economy? Push it somewhere else? Buffing every other piece of equipment, whether it's with accuracy or other stats? It seems like it would require a lot of consideration and work. Maybe there will be time after Pink Bean and timeless equips mess up everything.

The problem that some people in here are referring to is called stagnation. The game is figured out. Maplestory is a math equation that has had 100 different solutions discovered over the last 13 years. The once traditional way of making and leveling characters through Partying, Quests, solo Grinding and PQ's is antiquated and inefficient. As Royals has aged, character progression on the server has become stagnant and one dimensional. Its most popular for people get to level 30 however they can, as fast as they can, then either Leech or pay to someone else to leech their characters till mid 4th job where they then play the character for a whole 45 levels before they're 200 and they start the whole process all over. There's been 13 years to create powerful items that replace everything that came before it. Gearing characters is no longer a journey of upgrades that you go through till you're max level, but one that is usually done by the time you're 120 or sooner

I am all for changes to drop rates of items/equips and scrolls. While its true they have made changes in the past, its been a long time since they did. When Staff made those changes, the community was different. Server was only 7 years old at that time and we were just at the start of covid and just before the player boom we'd experience from it. But honestly it doesnt even matter. No item drop rate nerf today would see any noticeable affect for years. It wouldn't make the overwhelming majority of scrolls suddenly have value again. It wouldnt make players suddenly start playing the traditional way of leveling and actually playing a character where they would use lower level equipment while they played. You could nerf the drop rates of scrolls by 100% and the sheer amount of stock that players have for all the now mostly useless scrolls could literally supply the server for years before people would ever struggle to find a cape luk 60% or Gun for attack 60% in the FM. It doesnt even address the sheer level of power that comes from Gachapon.

The main issue at hand here is that this thread is trying to address a problem that cannot be fixed without a complete server wipe or creating a fresh start 2nd world and having the changes implemented there from the start. There's a Zero point Zero Zero repeating infinitely percent chance that staff or the overwhelming majority of players would ever be ok with any changes no matter how small a change or how much a positive it might be for the health of the server down the road. Any item that suddenly becomes harder to get creates a imbalance of people that got the items before the change and those who try to get the item after the change. You're rewarding some people and punishing others. You're potentially messing with peoples characters that they've spent thousands and thousands of hours working on and let me tell you, people do not enjoy having their characters messed with.

The vast majority of items, equips and scrolls are useless since the core gameplay loop is about getting through level 30-155 as quick as humanly possible. You cannot make a change to the core gameplay loop as it is currently that wouldnt upset more players than have any positive effect. There is some hope that Pink Bean and the release of Reverse/Timeless items would help reset the equip/scroll market somewhat, but I have extreme doubts it would ever go over smoothly with a good amount of the community without some backlash. While many players anxiously await the arrival of the fat pink hamster, at the same time I've heard players dread when their perfect weapon or armor will lose its value due to better and stronger items becoming available. I've already seen people try and suggest ways to be able to game the system in order to lessen the impact it would have on them. New upgrades and character progression should be something that everyone looks forward, not loathed.

It's never too late. Healthy, progressive changes are more important in the long run, not the temporary frustration, and we should always talk about them

Introduction of sets can give a boost of fresh air to some equips, basically having the entire top+bot+helm+boots of lets say, level 50 warrior could give the player some boons like extra HP, atk, speed, etc...
Tier levels for sets can also be implemented, having more pieces of it will yield greater bonuses.

The conceit of all of this post is both "nobody would notice if scroll drops stopped dropping" and "ppl would rage quit if drops change". I'm unclear what you mean.

More importantly, we need to disentangle the notions of punish/rewarding players. Healthy changes made to the entirety of the server are neither punishments nor rewards to anyone, it's for the healthier longevity of the server. This is a free server. If players think they're being punished because they don't understand why gm make them feel bad, then staff needs to do a much better job of communicating (the shifter nerf is a perfect example, staff buckled rather than explain calmly why this decision was made for the betterment of the server until it was clear why).

The only drop changes I'm suggesting is adding bundles to some items, potions, and small bundles to magic/summoning rocks, and changing the level of zhelm and some other meta equips, bc they cause mass obsolescence the vast amount of class eqs, not to mention weapon/armor npcs.

There's simple ways to bridge this and comfortably implement it as well. Zhelms untradeable, so it doesn't affect anyone currently wearing one. You can also let the server know this is going to be happening. Why would you need to warn them? (And here is what you're actually saying) solely bc the washing crowd might bank on helming before 135. Bending the knee to an exploit still needs to stop. Implement in game ways to get hp to access all content eventually.

However since we have to bend to this extremely entitled player base who are using an exploit to enhance their character, problems creating problems, then simply announce the change two or three months ahead, start calling the current zhelm a different name, allow it to drop with a lvl 50 requirement until the patch. That's it. In the mean time staff can communicate their conviction that it's better for the server overall, that a small, loud, very entitled population of washers don't want the change unfortunately are why it needs to change, that demographic should not be dictating the server's best interest or longevity.

Saying it's settled or figured out is also not good, and demands inspection and reevaluation. Any past or present meta needs to be examined, not just accepted, bc they all lean toward optimization that can be unhealthy for the server over time (the worst aspect of all imo is how many useless skills we have. especially skills made worthless just bc they're dropped by leech map mobs. Staff need to also consider moving all sbs off leech/farmed maps, like the many skele sbs, which are made totally worthless by flooding nonstop into the market. I really, really don't understand why trends or things like these are just allowed to continue without any consideration to the effect. Players keep players playing, the sb system is simple and works. But if you look at it economically, there's a lot savvier things you could do than let them flood in certain maps, but this also gets into the useless skill area as well, which is off topic, but very important)

Back on, I generally agree with the OP. Unfortunately it seems staff has essentially let equips be mesos, since equips are 99.9 % useless. The eq droprate could be slightly lowered if they all weren't completely useless, slightly increase npc price on helmets/gloves (add acc and int on them on most gloves/helms and in combos in some) over 70 since zhelm is a higher level) and folks would sell them more and npc them for more overall, or hunt them themselves more often, which leads to more eq drops. Combined with bundle drops on potions, this would work well for players before epq era, and would trend more questing/grind parties on all levels.

Would you lose the shrinking vip helm market? I guess, but that just means more ppl will apq, which means we might get someone to clean up the ass plats in the number stage, or completely revamp stage 5, one of the worst designed pixel dumps in the game.

Crazy how much the zhelm level increase would improve things everywhere, and literally not negatively impact anyone since they're untradable and wouldn't need to change the level of any equipped or in inventories, just make sure you let the washers know ahead of time, and then take on washing next

Again, free server. Healthier, more progressive changes are much better in the long run, otherwise you get "stagnation", and metas that keep bending the nature of how everyone can enjoy the game. Many of these moves fix themselves (no washing = largely no leeching which = we can buff mages and nerf ultimates, and all is well 0:))
