I find it very inappropriate since I do not see the bad intention of the banned person in his smega. I leave a link to the ban for better understanding. https://royals.ms/forum/threads/banned.246678/
So, I read what the issue is, and I agree with the ban. Unfortunately, he even lied about what he said, excluding -the axis of evil-, which insinuates the other group to be evil. In that essence, he chose a side, and disparaged the other side, making the statement that only one side is in the wrong. This was clearly a political view being put forward. The whole situation is disheartening, and we can only hope it ends immediately, but pulling people's arms in a public setting, reminding them what they SHOULD agree with, is not something we should be doing right now. War is an unpleasant circumstance, but unlike the first and second world wars, we have an avenue we can actually run to, a place we can get away and live in the bliss of ignorance, where people come to smile and spread what joy they can, because life has become quite difficult, even before this attack. If you really want to help your brothers and sisters cope with the reality, give them a different reality to come home to, one where they can smile and ease that anxiety, one where they do not need to be reminded of their terrible situation, but reminded that there is an upcoming exp event and no one is going to sleep for the next few days from the sheer excitement. That's why we're here.
What is evil? When we mention evil, we are referring to the entity that terrorizes innocent beings, not a faction. Evil varies according to each ideology and thought, but we agree that violence that results in the loss of life is considered an extremely inappropriate act for any living being. Thank you for your comment and thank you very much for giving me your opinion.
When you label a side, you are causing friction, which is why they have the rule for political disputes. It just devolves into a terrible discussion where both sides can't find a middle ground because emotions are high, which leads to bickering without rational consideration, which then devolves to insulting a side and then hate. Everyone strives to be correct in these situations, which is why the rule exists, so that these types of situations are prevented. I personally love this rule, because there is plenty of people who enjoy these types of -fights-, and I for one would rather not read someone else's opinion on a topic that is far too complicated for any of us to fully understand. Labeling a side Evil is just inconsiderate to those people, and I'm assuming that is the reason he was banned. I'm just really trying to help you understand that the staff would like to avoid confrontation, and this rule provides that. If you read the result of his comment, apparently the replies he received were far worse than what he wrote (according to him) which is NOT what the staff want to happen. I hope this helps.
From the overall result of that thread, I believe it is a permanent ban. (I may be wrong because it doesn't state it was, but the direction of the conversation and being a rejected ban appeal, makes me assume it is permanent)
Well, the paragraph that Tim is reffering to is under minor offences so I doubt its a permanent one. "Minor Infractions: Punishment: First offense - 3 day ban, Second offense - 7 day ban, Third offense - 30 day ban, Subsequent offenses - 90 day ban"
The ban is not unfair. The rules state no political smegas. Doesn't matter context, doesn't matter intention, doesn't matter if a meme, doesn't matter if you were kidding. Doesnt matter how passionate you are about the political thing you wanna smega about. None of it matters. They asked players not to smega politics. Players did it anyways. So they made a Tos addition stating they dont want political smegas. Allowing political smegas will lead to issues between players and will always end up causing a riot to take over smegas. It causes rifts to develop between players. Ive seen it enough on this server in the past.
Every time I turn on the news I see people killing each other for some reason or another. I have no doubt that just like me, many people play this game as a distraction to lessen some of the burdens real life places upon us. There is plenty enough unpleasantness in the world. Leave it out of Mushroom game. If you wish to discuss highly contentious geopolitical issues, you can do so in private.
Well, I think that as someone from Israel my opinion would hold some weight here. I would say that only half of his smega was the issue, as "stay strong my israeli brothers" is alright and there is nothing wrong with it. The thing is - after he said "the axis of evil" - the whole smega lost its purpose. I too say to my israeli brothers to stay strong and take care of themselves, but I do not (publicly anyways) take sides, as I do not wish to get politics into the game, and so does my israeli friends. Even when I suffered from anti-semitism and when people tried to bait me into arguing on the whole situation - i stayed neutral, cause i know royals is not the place to discuss these things. I do feel somewhat bad that he got banned, but Tim and or the staff member that banned him simply just followed the rules. It doesn't mean Tim or Matt or any staff member is supporting X or Y, it just means there are rules to be followed and there are no exceptions. Of course, each staff member holds their own opinion(s) on the situation and probably is supporting X side or Y side, or even neutral and just looking at the whole situation with an optimistic point of view, and i trust each of them to not take their personal opinion as a factor when they decide on these bans. I think i summed it pretty okay? idk, you tell me if something is not clear.
I get that the message probably came from a place of support for fellow Israelis, but it still crosses the line with how we handle political or real-world conflict talk in-game. Phrases like "defeat the axis of evil" go beyond just showing solidarity - they carry a very charged tone and frame the opposing side in an extreme way. In a global community like ours, that kind of message is bound to stir people up, especially given the current situation. We’ve already made a public post about this exact issue: Royals isn’t the place for political messaging or war-related statements, no matter which side it’s coming from. The goal is to keep the game as a space where people can disconnect from that kind of chaos, not be reminded of it or dragged into arguments over it. https://royals.ms/forum/threads/regarding-hate-speech-and-political-propaganda.224298/ We’re not saying the player meant to offend anyone, but we moderate based on how messages are said and how they’re received - not just the intent. That’s why this falls under the "objectionable behavior" rule. Hope that clears things up.
I just hope that nobody gets the wrong idea because of the fact that he received a ban (it's only 3 days for first time offense - more like a message that the rules will be enforced), after reading closely and carefully all of the rules regarding this matter along with the staff responses to his appeal I do believe that the Royals staff is neutral and fair when it comes to this. I've seen what places without a rule like that become, they turn into chaotic and unpleasant environments with endless fighting which then leads to mocking, shaming, trying to prove a point and ultimately the exclusion of the group with fewer "representatives" - and not always to your advantage. I have strong views, grounded in logic, reality and a deep sense of my community and home, but I have to put it all aside in order to avoid the potential outcome which is an emotional chaotic mess and to be able to enjoy this place. Saying what you think is right doesn't always bring the desired outcome, especially in a moment of high intensity emotions. In the real world, you may change someone's opinion if you have the right approach and facts, but it most certainly will never happen when expressed through high intensity emotions unless your goal is to submit them, but when it comes to a game, where people don't come to be educated about politics and wars, but rather relax, wind down detach for a while from all that and enjoy something different, things like that should be left out. If you feel the need to fight and make a change there are other ways to do it, your potential impact here on this issue will be minimal to none. As for showing support, it is always appreciated and welcomed, but we cannot do it in a public manner through announcements that force every single player to see, just like we wouldn't want the side that brings out negative emotions in us to do the same. Learning to have a neutral space in one's life is important but also very challenging, that's why, for example, we sometimes struggle to avoid bringing our work life's negative emotions back home. it is normal. At least here there are rules in place and people to enforce them, helping us achieve that neutral space with more ease.
