Yep, I've been enquiring on if something like this would get around the problem. I don't know if it would work (I don't know enough about how it works) its possible that anything that comes out of the cash shop is just inherently different from normal items, and might or might not be able to be traded into an NPC. It might be good if somebody starts a feedback thread for brainstorming and thoughts. As far as I know, slowing down RWT is not a motivation for keeping this limitation. Given that the RWTers can just drop trade the APRs anyway, there would be no logical way that this limitation helps thwart RWT.
It's not really related to the blacklist tbh but I just wanna show appreciation to @Heidi for these comments and information. Kudos to you, ma'am. Pls accept this pepe of appreciation -
Maybe he played GMS and just enjoyed scamming that much in GMS (nostalgia). Hopefully this little irritating gnat moves on to another place where the consequences of luck testing this type of activity (scamming people) is a bit higher than "oops try again".
I would like to compile a sticky of a list of known scams. I see this with travelers around the world, common scams: i.e. the shoe-shine scam in a few countries, etc. So in Maple type games, you could have a sticky of current known scams somewhere: i.e. Do not drop trade with someone unless they can can demonstrate job 4 character (red flag). If scamming is persistent in Royals, this would be something to look into. I would enjoy it, I'm sure others would too. On the other hand... One would assume that no one scams, because if they do, they're completely bjorked. But if that's simply not the case due to this guy's depraved psychology, if the persistence extends, then it is not the case anymore. I think that's probably the information being intimated by the scammer: you're weird if you believe someone in the game, which has this invincible reputation against bad-actors, would possibly allow for this scamming, so why would you inconvenience us? Maybe the issue is just the awareness that while scams are almost impossible to happen, because of a depraved certain set of interests, it is still possible, even in Royals. That's possibly why this pattern is so effective. Maybe that's all that's needed to be known by everyone, rather than a compiled list of scams.
Third and final message: ip address bans, tracking the same person to make a ban on a person, is quite effective, given the goal of the person being building up "wealth" in MapleRoyals: given enough time, they will get caught. It's not effective, if a person gets a kick out of scamming rather than this other goal: not enough time could pass.
A bit more investigation by us and putting jigsaw pieces together actually revealed that this guy has literally been at it for a decade (and has been banned many, many, many, many times by frustrated staff members for his absolutely incessant scamming and other toxic behaviour). He used to scam on Aulz (those who have been here for awhile might remember him then...), and on other characters even before that. I really have no hope that he's going to stop any time soon, because he has just enjoyed doing this for so long, and it seems to be the main thing he ban evades to do. It makes me absolutely sick that this individual appears to get such a kick out of doing this harm to our wonderful community. He probably does this stuff in other communities too, and so we can only hope that he also does it somewhere that could ultimately land him in a jail cell for fraud or something (as, aside from somebody smashing his computer to bits, I'm not sure what else would stop him from coming back here, other than him ending up in a jail cell). I have no shame in speaking about him like this, because there is just no good reason for him to be persistently coming back here to upset people who just want to enjoy the nostalgia of their favorite mushroom game. There is just absolutely no excuse, ever, for this kind of behaviour, and I'd honestly be amazed if he is actually contributing anything of value anywhere that he goes. I emphasize again that you all have to be really careful, as some people are just completely crazy, and I'm sorry that it probably feels like we're victim blaming you all With regards to a list of known scams, and a guide to avoid getting scammed, this would probably be best done by the player base rather than staff (but we can help with the brainstorming of course!). Please also feel free to make a feedback thread if you have any other ideas on how to deal with this kind of stuff, or have other thoughts about how scamming is delt with, that you wish to share.
> So what do you do in your free time? > Oh I swindle people in a private Maple server. > Oh how long? > The last ten years. > Oh wow that's pretty neat. Wanna hang out?
