Potential of a copy of a private server?

Hello,

I’ve been a fan of maplestory “classic” for roughly 20 years and was so excited to see this place existed when I found it. Recently while in the forum chat I saw someone mention they had a private server copy of mapleroyals. My question is, is there any way that a random person like me could get a copy?

I am sure there are unofficial routes to get one, but I don’t want to risk any chances of getting banned. Even if I can get a personal server I don’t plan to stop playing on maple royals, I just want to use it to try out different skills and areas of the game without risking ruining my in game characters. So if it’s not possible then I’m just going to drop the idea.

I wouldn't trust anyone who claims to have a copy of the server. If such a thing was out there, it would be blasted all across the pserver community and you'd see a ton of v83 servers with v62 content plus von leon clones popping up.

A few years ago there was someone on the discord that was bragging about having developed a clone of the server by developing his own server from one of the common open-source starting points and adding all the stuff from royals client files, but since he could only copy the client side of things, it was not a perfect copy by any stretch and would have been missing a lot (if he ever even got it to a workable state). If you ever find someone with "royals source" for sale, I would bet it's something like this.

If you're interested in having a test server, one possibility would be to create your own local server using one of the common open-source repositories and then do your best to edit the class balance and mob stats to match the classes and areas you want to test. Of course highly modified content like von leon would not be feasible to recreate.

 

It was a couple days ago. Someone was saying that they make their own jump quests in a private server. They didn’t specify that it was of mapleeoyals, but context made it implied.

I didn’t really think much about it at the time, but it’s been stuck in the back of my mind since and made me wonder if I could get a private copy to play on alone to try out class variants. Like OG MapleStory used to do when they did playtest servers for new content.

I will understand if it is not a thing here, but figured that there was at least no harm in asking. I have zero interest in tinkering with the code or any of that. I almost certainly wouldn’t even know how to access it to begin with. The only experience I have is with the .lua files for Scrap Mechanic and those are just fancy text files which are still too complex for me… but it’s the only ones I even know how to open.

Anyway, side tangent aside. I appreciate your input and time.

 

That was @JuliusOmega and I'm pretty sure it's just a generic v83 server, not with all the royals specific changes (not like there's any royals changes that would affect jump quests)

 

I genuinely don’t know how to do any of that. I am just trying my luck at getting a private copy of the current server (without any player character files of course…) that I could just load up and try weird/stupid stuff that might or might not make a character unplayable. Or just try out skills before investing in them in the real game to see if they’re actually useful. Things like that.

However, if it comes to any kind of coding then I’m SOL. I’m trying to learn, but my memory is about as useful as a piece of chainmail is at holding water… so it’s… slow going. I’ve had to watch the same tutorial for Unity about 15 times now. I’m almost at the point where I can remember how to actually add if/then prompts. Almost…

That sounds vaguely right. I’m terrible with memory. I’m usually left with the vaguest of impressions of any event and can only work with that.

 

Hello everyone, I want to emphasize that I'm only doing this for personal enjoyment and nothing more. I want to see the client's capabilities in different environments, changes, actions, executions, in real time, skill skins (that's a lot of work, I'm really confused about that), Cash Shop items and new worlds, etc., etc. It's not that I plan to release it, it's just that I've had it for two years and when there aren't any events in Royals, to avoid getting bored I want to study the editing a bit more. I've tried almost all of them, including the most basic ones like Timeless MS and HeavenMS, and designing a JQ would be a gift for this server. Let's just say I want to torture them by watching them jump, even if I don't participate, I just want to see how a thorn takes away 5k health xD

I figured you just had a copy to tinker with the same way I want to. Like testing how far certain skills balance, or if there are areas worth exploring, or testing success rates of item upgrades, etc. Sorry if I accidentally got you in the spotlight by asking this question. It didn't occur to me that they might think you were trying to compete or something. I don't want to compete either. I don't even want to stop playing on the server. I just wanna get a change to try out higher job skills as the highest level I have ever reached personally, even in OG maple was around 45 or so. So I have zero experience with 3rd or 4th job skills and don't know how they work, let alone which ones will actually be helpful to my play style. So I thought at the worst they could say no and made this request to see if I could get a small personal server to play with. I'd try making one like you did, or that other guy suggested... but I really am terrible at coding and can't make heads or tails of it. Plus, since I'd be setting the parameters, they wouldn't match the ones in this server and would make it useless as a test run...

 

Hey, bro, believe me, it's really hard at first. I'm editing, creating, and customizing some skills and seeing the impact on things like stats, max and min crit rate, min and max damage, accuracy, magic and weapon defense. I just discovered that those things were like loose ends, and it became easy for me. The bad part is editing how much damage each mob does depending on that, and it's tedious, but I still like it.
