Hey everyone, I’ve been thinking a lot lately about our journey here in MapleRoyals. Like most of you, I’m not here for the pixels; I’m here for the feeling. This server has been a sanctuary for our nostalgia, and the staff has done a phenomenal job keeping the game technically perfect. However, as a dedicated player who hasn't been banned, I’m starting to feel a growing sense of "community anxiety." We are all adults now. We have real lives, jobs, and stresses. When we log in, we want to relax. But the current culture of absolute rigidity where a simple, honest mistake like a "Vote Abuse" error or a minor rule misunderstanding leads to an immediate, irreversible Permanent Ban is creating an atmosphere of fear rather than fun. When we treat our community with a "one strike and you're out" policy, we lose the human element. A player shouldn't feel like their years of effort are hanging by a thread because of a technicality. Integrity is important, but mercy and common sense are what keep a community alive. Why am I saying this now? Because the landscape is changing. With the official return of MapleStory Classic, we are entering a new era. For the first time in years, players have a choice. I don’t want to see this server fade away, but the reality is simple: people will always choose a home where they feel safe and respected. If we continue to be so unforgiving, the official servers won't just offer nostalgia, they will offer "peace of mind" that a private server currently doesn't. I’m writing this because I care about our community. I hope we can move toward a more "human" approach to moderation. Let’s make this a place where people stay because they feel welcome, not just because it’s the only option. Let’s bring the "heart" back to the Maple heartland.
As a long time GMS player, I feel so much less fear playing here than I do when playing Nexon's GMS. At least on Royals we're entitled to a public ban appeal to plead our case if we feel we've been wronged. For GMS players it's sometimes legitimately a gamble whether you'll get to speak to a real human GM before your ban appeal privileges are revoked for 'spamming' their customer support, which is especially scary when you consider that there's a history of ban waves resulting from an error from Nexon's side.
I completely hear you, and as someone who also remembers the dark days of Nexon’s automated 'customer support,' I agree that having a public appeal system is a massive step up. It’s definitely one of the reasons why many of us chose Royals as our home. However, my point isn't that Royals is worse than Nexon- it’s that Royals has the potential to be so much better. The fact that we are 'entitled' to an appeal is great, but if that appeal is met with a 'zero-tolerance' wall that ignores human context or technical nuances, then the 'human' element we value so much becomes just a formality. We shouldn't settle for 'better than Nexon' as our gold standard. We should strive for a community where players feel truly heard, not just processed. A public appeal is only as good as the empathy behind the person reading it.
This has been hashed out before, but the problem is that the admins aren't sitting here as cruel executioners of people's accounts, it's a resource allocation problem at it's core. See: https://royals.ms/forum/threads/should-banned-players-be-given-a-second-chance.203910/ https://royals.ms/forum/threads/perma-ban-clean-slate-statute-of-limitations.240840/ Honestly I think they've been making a big improvement, they've had a lot more "minor vote abuse" and catching it before it becomes a problem. Hell most of the ban appeals in the last bit have been Minor Vote abuse, RWT, or ban evasion.
What Nexon is currently offering on its classic nostalgia server is making the same mistakes as with the launch of MapleStory 2 (I'm talking about 2018, and I was in both betas of the MapleStory 2 server). Although it's still in beta, there are things I liked and things I didn't like. The balance of all classes is good, except for the Pirate class, which is locked. The maximum level is 50. Quests now give Meso, which they didn't give before when I started the MapleStory Nostalgia Adventures on Nexon. What I didn't like is that potions have a cooldown. It's silly and stupid. How can they put a cooldown on healing potions? We're playing MapleStory 1, not MapleStory 2, where potions did have a cooldown. I hope Nexon recognizes their mistake and removes the cooldown from potions. And something else I noticed about the change to the... Scrolls 100% is +1 60% is +2 10% is +3 WTF And another scroll they put in the image that's 70%, but there isn't much information about its probability, but it was +5, but there's a higher probability of the item being destroyed WTF So it makes it very difficult to obtain perfect items Unless Nexon releases an item that costs NX and prevents the item's destruction That would be spending real money I'm just telling you that everything I've learned is from a Chilean Latino (I don't remember his name, but I'm subscribed to his channel for more news) If you want more information, search for Coopersan, since he talks about everything regarding the classic MapleStory beta server from Nexon I hope Nexon doesn't make the same mistake with MapleStory 2 because I truly invested a lot of time in it. It was launched in 2018 and then shut down in 2020, post-COVID-19 pandemic, meaning it closed in March. If you love this server royals, stay put because we don't know for sure what their plans are for launching Nexon's classic MapleStory server, because there's a lot I don't like. And I don't have a key to access the beta test server for Nexon's classic MapleStory server. Just letting me know is more than enough for Latin Americans. And as the Chilean streamer said, they should reconsider and do things right, and listen to the voices from the United States, Europe, and Latin America, their recommendations, and not just listen to the United States, because if they don't, they could fail like MapleStory 2 did (I hate it). This testing phase and the two channels on the server are completely full, and it's chaos. Keep playing MapleRoyals, the best nostalgia server <3
As someone who takes pride in playing 100% fair in every game I've ever played, I can't help but to feel anxiety when it comes to "RWT joke" rule. As much as I'm grateful for admins to keep the game clean of cheaters, the sole thought of getting perma banned and losing years of progress just because you sent a joke msg to your friend in all chat, is kinda scary.
Just a little research is enough to know that Royals admins actually do something about those breaking the rules. And the rules are really simple and easy to follow. By some people it might look as if Royal admins are ruling with an iron fist giving no second chances, but for me and many others, they are doing their job and doing it very well. It would be chaos and total disaster if hackers run rampart, harrassment and scamming are normal for every conflict or opportuny, botters are mage farming on every ch non stop, and so on. Its not just that giving a second chance to some people that have learned their lesson will be unfair to those still perma banned, it is UNFAIR to all those law abiding Royals citizen. Maplestory Classic might cover the same niche market as Royals in terms of "old school maplestory" but thats it. It still has many downsides and differences. Many will try classic (including me), but im sure many will return back to Royals. Saying this, Maplestory Classic is not a factor big enough to change how Royals has been working till now. The system has been working well till now, and it will stay so.
In more than a decade of being on this server, not once have I ever seen staff treat players unfairly. The mercy is already there in the form that a ban IS reversible. All players are given the ability to make an appeal, and the turnaround for those responses are pretty damn fast. Everything is done by the process, GM's go through a checklist of things when processing an appeal. Misunderstanding the rules is not an excuse to break them: as of a certain update quite a few years ago, custom dialogue was introduced to walk new players through every rule. It's shoved in the new player's face for every new character; if they choose to skip it, that's on them. I know for a fact that there are staff that can help with translations for players that request it, and I would consider that a luxury. From what I've seen, staff always reviews evidence with the player to make sure the ban is justified, and isn't a false ban. I can even give a personal example; years ago I had been mistakenly banned for what looked like RWT. While the process did take some time, staff provided their time to work with me to properly discover evidence despite me not being able to provide my own. I've seen many similar cases with other appeals. Despite seeing new GMs, I also see that the process of handling appeals has not changed, and is no more rigid than it had been in the past. I'm all about giving second chances to those who make genuine mistakes, such as accidentally logging into and voting on another account (such as a single vote, accidentally a couple hours early) or any cases similar to mine where the logs show an obviously suspicious trade/drop... ...but 99% of these closed appeals that don't get second chances are people who obviously and knowingly break the rules. We're all here because we like having a level playing field right? We're not losing any players to Maple Classic considering that we already know it's going to be P2W, so I disagree that anything has changed in that regard. Players who want unfair advantages shouldn't be on MapleRoyals. Cheers to your post though Sayoran, it's very well written. It's up to us as a community to make a welcoming space, and in my personal opinion, Royals staff definitely has always contributed to that.
No honest player is afraid. Zero tolerance is the right way. Everyone knows the rules; you can't miss anything. I remember MapleStory Europe. Hackers everywhere, meso- and item selling in the real world ... Nobody wants that.
Hi, thank you for raising your concerns regarding Vote Abuse. We understand that losing progress, especially in cases of permanent bans, can be frustrating. However, we would like to clarify that the "immediate permanent ban" you referenced is not the result of a simple or accidental mistake. Vote abuse requires intentional actions, such as repeated attempts to bypass voting limits. This is not comparable to a misclick or a minor misunderstanding. Additionally, the rules regarding voting are clearly communicated at multiple stages, including during account registration, first login, the voting page, Shanks Quiz, and Voting Endeavors (Scuffed Gacha). Players are responsible for understanding and adhering to these rules. While there are cases where major vote abuse results in a permanent ban even on a first offense, there are also cases of lesser violations resulting in a 14-day ban. Leniency is limited due to the impact of vote abuse on the in-game economy, particularly as APR is tradable and directly tied to progression. While we understand the desire for a more lenient approach, excessive leniency can be interpreted as tolerance toward exploitative behavior, which may encourage others to take the same risk. Your concern about the perceived harshness of the T&C is noted. However, the premise that vote abuse is a minor or accidental mistake is not accurate, and relaxing enforcement would undermine fairness for players who follow the rules. The ban appeal process exists to review evidence and ensure that no errors were made in enforcement. It is not intended to renegotiate established rules or reinterpret clear violations. Decisions are based on actions and evidence, not on perceived intent or emotional framing.
Also, making a mistake and accidently voting twice in a day one time isn't a permanent ban. The people you see did it consistently for... probably months. Ignorance can't be an excuse because everyone will claim ignorance whether or not that's true, and the economic damage has been done either way. And with the amount of safeguards at this point claiming ignorance is kind of just ridiculous
There's a big difference between existing in society and getting to play one specific mushroom game private server
As someone who is playing Maplestory Classic, Royals will be fine. Classic is absolute garbage, like every other MMO, we're going to have massive RMT because they can't mitigate it, they don't even bother trying. They're trying to modernize it while also retaining it's difficulty, which doesn't make sense in this age. Royals just does everything better as it currently stands.
