Alright, well i've been having discussions with people about leeching. I know genesis is very expensive to obtain and such, but it's odd to me how cost effective it is to leech in the mid range levels. Also, doesn't it kind of make playing the game pointless? What incentive does a lower level without a bishop (80 - 100) have to actually play the game? What do you feel about leech, and what it does to the overall community base? Are you fine with people simply afking levels and not playing? I personally was against it, but i can see how overall both parties would benefit, i just honestly don't like those who "buy" their levels so to speak, i feel it ruins the integrity of the game.
I see it as an alternative method of playing the game. All games have situations where you could gain something for doing nothing.
Yes like GMS where you can buy cubes and stuff for better weapons, we play this server to get rid of pay to win type of ideas, don't we?
You can look at it like that. I look at it as a way to abuse the party system. Leeching doesn't involve actual currency so these two are miles apart.
I have nothing against self leechers (I am one, but have never sold it), but I look down on people who sit in the FM and do nothing until they gach enough money to buy leech. It leads to a bunch of 13-16x shitties who are weak and useless.
There doesn't need to be anything, people should be able to choose to leech or not and deal with whatever consequences their choice has. If someone wants to leech to 150, so be it. They'll be useless at bosses, but they got the level. On the other hand, if someone wants to go the slow route it'll take much longer to get to 150, but they'll have more money to spend on their equipment. People often see leeching as the easy way of doing things, but there's an oportunity cost that is often ignored.
Doesn't work that way from 80 - 100, it's more cost effective to leech, and gives no incentive to train legitimately aka actually playing the game.
So gaining the Mesos from grinding and/or hunting along with gaching is more cost effective? If you include time maybe but if you're just going by Mesos then no. 80-100 just plain sucks no matter what class you are, why begrudge people who want an extra boost to get to the more fun levels?
Because they're not playing the game.....they're having someone else do it. You can't clock someone else in work and do their job while you go away just because it's hard, can you?
However, i do see your point as in they earn the mesos, but those who have priests and 2 computers, kind of gives a unfair advantage...
You're comparing apples to oranges once again, a game and work are two completely different things. Ideally your work would be fun, but that's not the point of a job; whereas the point of a game is for entertainment. If leeching through the annoying levels is more fun for someone why shouldn't they be able to do that in a game whose purpose is fun and entertainment? Saying they're not playing the game isn't necessarily true either, there are many ways to play games according to each individual who plays it. For example: when I play Assassin's Creed I prefer the sneaky way of playing, but my GF prefers to go in guns blazing. I prefer my way and consider it more correct, but her way is valid too. The game allows both ways of playing, so neither is necessarily wrong. It's just two different ways of playing. You don't need two computers to play two accounts, everyone is free to make a priest and multiclient. It would only be unfair if not everyone could make a priest or multiclient. And yes, you can multiclient on windows 8 and Macs.
Leeching is the most efficient and optimal thing to do. You could pay someone to leech you while farming stuff on another client or fighting Zakum/Horntail for mesos. That is a realistic scenario that a few people utilize. You're pretty much getting the most optimal training while also making more mesos than you're spending. That's your opinion. One of the main benefits of leeching is not having to do anything so you can do the other stuff in the game like interacting with buddies or guild mates.
I mean, I agree at least partially. I'm not a fan of getting copious amounts of leech, but I don't begrudge those who do either. That's their choice. Oftentimes the burn out once they stop leeching anyways.
I'm not a fan of leeching either, simply put it's lame. Whether it's self leeching or buying leech from others, it takes the fun and experience out of non-mage classes. Planning on making a corsair but hate the grind to 120? No problem, just make a bishop to level it instead! These high end game dps classes like sairs and NLS were purposesly designed to have poor grinding skills as a trade for high single target dps. Being able to leech completely nullifies that challenge of reaching end game. And don't even get me started on people who buy leech, why would you spend money on other people to essentially play for you? People who support leeching are lazy, simple as that. Despite what I just said, I still have a bishop in the making. Why? Because it'd be stupid to not reap the benefits of having a bishop. They're the easiest and most effortless class to play yet they have the biggest perks, so you tell me. I'm really glad GMS killed leeching by revamping party exp ratios. Just my 2 cents.
From my experience, I can say that whereas Bishops are the easiest way to make money by selling leech, they're also not the fastest. I made >90% of my wealth from merching and bossing rather than selling leech. And yes, they're the easiest class to play to grind/level to 200, but many people also consider them to be stupidly boring. Leeching is just the alternative to training the early levels, and it's a person's own choice if they decide to go ahead and skip part of the game rather than play it. But let's also consider those that need leech to level at that point: HP washing is nearly mandatory to be competitive on this server (unless you're some basic class like a Hero). Nerfing or disabling Bishop leeching would ruin that and also give a huge advantage to those who could HP wash already. I partially agree with you, but let's not forget that levels don't get you everything in the game. A level 200 Night Lord that got leeched all the way won't have as much money to spend on gear, meaning they're weaker and will probably be outdamaged by people way below their level. To be successful, you need both levels and equipment (unless you're a Mage), leeching will get you one at the expense of another (as @Rob somewhat pointed out). But you're right in saying those that buy leech are lazy. Self-leeching is a different story, though. TL; DR: Leeching is the easy way out, but it's not necessarily the best. Some people actually need it and it's the decision of people to (buy) leech, let them "play" the game as they choose to.
If leech would have been "removed" then I would never have been able to get through my early levels, grinding with 17x base int sucks... Without leech a lot of different goals would be impossible to reach, so you want to limit others gameplay and how much time they have to spend, time which they might be lacking off, just cause you think they are not playing. Genesis is very easy to obtain. The books are expensive.
I would not want it removed as it does not break the game, however, id want more things for people to do groups at those mid levels and possibly lower the % of xp leechers get just to make it not a crazy advantage to leech.
That would also be at the cost of duo grinding. The only way to nerf it is to, for example, drastically lower or disable the leeching XP if you don't attack for e.g. 3 minutes, because otherwise you nerf bossing and grinding alike for not just Mages, but non-Mage classes, as well. I'm personally not a fan of that, but it's a possibility.
