Hm interesting, even after a wipe and decreased rates people are still complaining... Why is this even an issue again?
Well to me, the problem is that it's not nostalgic. Kind of anti-nostalgic actually. It reminds me of how overpowered items are in the current GMS. I just think that since the main focus of this server is to "feel the nostalgia", the admins should remove these things that detract from the nostalgic feeling. If I wanted to get items that naturally had high stats so I could become powerful quickly, I would go to other servers. However, this is just my opinion. Anyway, this thread has gotten kind of off-topic. This thread's about the drop rate/chance, which is a way bigger problem than the godly item rate stuff.
It's not far off from 1x. I'm sure somewhere down the line you'll realize that the drop rate is fine where it is. There's plenty of other areas in game that provide the nostalgic vibe you're looking for. i.e. hunting for skill books. You'll really experience that nostalgic feeling when you're spending 1-4 hours looking for one skill book. Don't h8 and appreciate. pls.
I really don't see the current drop rate as an issue. Sure, equips drop more then old school MS which was 1x- but we're not aiming to replicate everything 100%. Come on, the fact that we're 4x exp to begin with should show that we're a tad easier then old school MS. I feel that we've preserved nostalgia quite well- the long grind (40 lvls or so as a cleric/priest at GS2 sucks balls), the non-overpowering bossing of Zakum, the Party quests (which are being fixed/worked on), etc etc. Although equips drop in abundance, hunting for specific equips takes hours. Considering that most of us are working/studying in uni; we don't really have the time to spend on a 100% old school MS 1x/1x/1x server- that's why we're here to begin with. We already went through a server wipe because of people complaining it was too easy, and I honestly feel that it's perfect as it is right now.
How would decreasing the drop rate even more make this accurately nostalgic for you? You can't compare a 30 int lvl 48 robe (let's say you hit 10x 60/70% scrolls on it, which still isn't worth it cuz you need 50+ LUK to equip it, that could have been 50 INT instead) to a 20 attack, 50 LUK, 30 DEX lvl 140 robe with 18% LUK, or a 10 attack Facestompers to a 15 attack, 30 LUK, 30 DEX lvl 140 boots with 15% LUK, or a 18 attack BWG to a 33 attack Glove that can self cast Sharp Eyes while being equipped, or a 70 attack Skanda to a 124 attack lvl 140 Claw with 40% Bonus Damage to Bosses and 9% additional attack. All the latter weapons are by no means "Godly" (except for maybe the claw) while I really went bonkers with the possibility of stats we could get on our equipment here at MapleRoyals. All the nostalgia I need that MapleRoyals is currently giving me are the old PQ layouts, not being able to 1-hit any monster 20 lvls above me and not reaching lvl 100 within 6 hours of gameplay. Even with the current drop rates, it still takes A LOT of effort to find what you need. Godly Item drops does not affect every drop you get, and from my own experience, it kinda works like a Chaos scroll, that can alter your equipment for better or worse. So I don't understand how this can be a BIG issue?
Yeah, I've heard that later on the drop rate is not as ridiculous, which is a huge relief to me. And, I'm not hating, I'm just trying to improve the server by giving suggestions It's not that I expect you guys to copy everything 100%, but I want you guys to get at least some of the most basic things. Personally, I prefer 1x servers, but there aren't really any of those anymore because people don't have long enough attention spans. Without a large and fun community to make up for the boring grind sessions, you can't do 1x. Anyway, I really believe you guys currently have the best old-school server. There's a lot of things working that other old-school servers don't, such as shops. There's also have a good sized community. However, there are many basic things that need a lot of work such as PQs, the boats between continents, balancing the drop rate, etc. I'm not sure why you guys even bother to include the PQs into the gtop description, because nearly none of them work. It's very misleading, and I was disappointed when I saw I couldn't actually participate in any PQs except for KPQ and CPQ. Don't get me wrong, I love this server, I really just want to help make it better! I'm not saying to decrease the drop rate. I'm saying to balance it, to be at least somewhat similar to the old GMS. It's not nostalgic at all for me to get an equip drop from 1 in every 10 monsters I kill. It actually detracts from the experience. I'm also not saying that they should change the entire drop. I'm saying they should change the certain parts of the drop rate that are unbalanced, specifically the low leveled equip items that drop way more than they need to.
So what you're saying is you want the possibility to get, for example, a Maple Shield (or something higher and extremely rare like a Dark Mate) at the same rate as other low, potentially useless equipment that the same monsters will drop? I could reason with that, but that would just mean to balance it towards the low drop rate of said Dark Mate (which honestly you can't tell if it's 1x or 2x), rather than increasing the possibility of rarer equipment. It's already "challenging" enough to get a Silver Deputy Star. I don't know if Lucky Charms were this rare in the original old GMS (which I seriously doubt) but they were not this rare in eMS (I never played GMS, but they have more similarities than differences). Getting regular, useless equipment is easy, getting something GOOD, enhanced with the Godly Item effect is still just as rare (or possibly even rarer) than getting a drop of said item in old GMS. This adds to the fun, I'm not looking for a copy of preBB MS, and tbh I wouldn't mind higher exp rates just cuz I'm a lazy grinder, but that's just personal preference and doesn't cope well with the community as a whole. So what I'm trying to say is what you're trying to enforce is a personal preference for you, but not the Royals community as a whole (if I go by the responses in this thread), and would do more harm than good. But yeah, since I was never really a grinder, I value different kinds of nostalgic traits, like questing, the community, the PQ's and server stability.
I'm not saying that rare items should be just as easy to get as useless ones... The whole point of my argument is to say that currently I find rare items just as easy to get as useless ones, and this should be changed. When grinding Platoon Chronos, I found like 6 maple shields. Even though I found other useless items more, I believe finding 6 maple shields in less than 2 hours is just too much. Maple shields are supposed to be a rare item, but they're so easy to find on this server, and because of that just about every other shield is basically useless since they don't have 10 slots clean. I value those things too, but PQs don't work at the moment, and a lot of quests I want to do are bugged to the point of where you can't even do them...
To me it's just a nice touch. Not the drop rate, but being able to get maple equipment from mobs. I don't even think we could get ANY maple weapons (someone should correct me if I'm wrong on this) in eMS, they were "gacha only". We didn't have gacha per se back in the days, but we had something almost identical (in practise) called Pigmy. And about the 2nd part, I know lots of PQ's and quests are currently buggy, but they are working to improve it, so I help out with bug reports to the best of my ability and try to enjoy what they currently have to offer in the meantime. And since I know I'm not the only one who truly loves PQ's and questing, I assume they will focus on fixing those things first, considering you haven't gotten a lot of backup concerning this. And hey, you can still wear Esther Shields if you want to, and go reg LUK mage. Some people do that for nostalgia
In GMS, maple weapons were only obtainable during the maple anniversary month, I think. I love being able to get maple weapons from monster drops at any time, but like I said, I think they're too common. I just feel like this server could be so much better if they balanced the drop rate
It's just like that for Maple Shields and the lvl 35/43 ones... At 64 they are still pretty rare, at least from my experience. And yeah, now that you mention it, I think that's how we got Maple Equipment too
That's actually really awesome. I always felt like the original old maplestory had the right idea for crafting, but they did it a terrible way. The problem was that you could get the item you were trying to craft way quicker than you could get the materials. But I'm glad this server expands on the crafting idea
