Okay you don't care about sharing and some people do, what's the point you're trying to make.

People are expressing why they're against it, I'm expressing why I'm neutral.

I think he's trying to say, he wants to quote you because you're cool
YAY I JUST QUOTED U TOO.

... I don't like acc share on topic, cause competiton. The end.

The levels that leeching is actually more efficient than training ends up being a pretty insignificant chunk compared to the rest of the game. How are later levels at all limiting in XP gain per day? I don't understand how the competition after 120 is pointless when the levels before 120 are a joke in the first place.

Your character in this game is a direct representation of yourself and having multiple people playing one character skews any sense of accomplishment that said character might have achieved, putting the validity of it in question. Purely for example, look at the damage range thread. If you were allowed to share equipment to increase your range, what point would there be? The whole thread would be a lie, as would be the levels on a shared character from a competitive standpoint.

If it's the Red Sox vs the Yankees in the World Series, but halfway through the game the Red Sox swap out for a completely rested, fresh team when they're getting tired, would it truly be a win for them?

If you were having trouble with the current material in class and had a math test during second period but your friend had it in first period and they gave you the answers, is it not cheating? The person who had the test first period studied and put in the effort to ace the test while you just leeched off of his hard work. Does that not destroy the sense of achievement/competition?

The whole point in being competitive is for that sense of pride that you mentioned. Jealously? Not really, since you'd be looked down upon.

Life may be something where connections can get you miles ahead of someone who works a lot harder than you do, but why should that be reflected onto this game? The same could be said for money; Being rich can get you pretty far compared to someone with low income, despite how hard they work. MapleRoyals has always been Play2win and not Pay2win, so why allow an aspect that can be so easily compared to taint the game?

Even a thread about questioning the rule creates unnecessary drama and conflicting feelings. The controversy caused by allowing account sharing would create an uproar of different issues that both players and GMs would have to deal with that otherwise never would have existed.

    3. In the long term account sharing could break economy and ultimately result in a server wipe (or reduce the server lifetime).

This is invalid because you cannot win at the game. And what does tiredness even have to do with it, since if anything, you'd be sharing the account and put in the work to directly benefit yourself. It took me around 5ish hours from 117-120 when my brother leeched me for free. You would have to do that, if you were using an account to share.

The concept of account sharing is to benefit yourself in a way where you'd have to play in order to benefit. But, with how it is now, I can easily give my brother a 20 and say, "Get a bishop to 120 for me, will you." And then have the exact. same. advantage.

You are looking at this from a 1-120 stand point, at 120-200 it is different.
    Grinding is faster than leeching.

Well the example was more about them getting an unfair advantage to get ahead .. I don't really see how that's invalid.

I literally explained everything else you said in my previous post. Invalidity of said character and pay2win aspect. You seem fixated on the insignificance of getting 120. Don't get me wrong though, my saying this isn't in any way to take away from anyone's accomplishments, but in the grand scheme of things it's a grain of sand in the desert.

You guys are discussing exactly what's been discussed long ago. In fact I was there when the big discussion about punishment over account sharing was discussed and reconsidered. So far as I see it, the rule is perfectly fine. It used to be a permanent ban, still is depending on the circumstances of the first offence.

The reasons for this are obvious: People complaining that they lost everything on their account or someone used it to do something bad etc. You see where I am getting at? You can go on typing forever here why account sharing isn't a great Idea, I am just stating the obvious.

So far you guys haven't really shared any new aspect that hasn't already been discussed, maybe you will but so far I suggest that if you guys haven't already looked in older discussion you should, that might help you. If you have nothing more to say or can't come up with another reason that hasn't already been stated as to why account sharing shouldn't be allowed then this thread has, in my humble opinion, already lost it's purpose and is not worthy of a further discussion.

Once upon a time, there was a high leveled Hero who almost made it to level 200. One of the reasons that Hero is banned is because it was being played by multiple characters, if memory serves. If it wasn't, forgive me, but let's go under the impression that it was.

In February of this year, I made it to level 200 as a Hero myself. I, personally, would always be bothered by the fact that an account that was played by multiple people is taking the accolade of first max level Hero that I personally deserve, because I individually made one, and none of the people who played that account did.

This would not be a minor dilemma to me. Call me dramatic if you will, that's just my two cents as someone who would be upset in the very case you mentioned.

If this is the real problem, then why not just ban any accounts that claim to have this kind of thing happen? Why bother trying to ban everyone involved with account sharing even if it's working out okay?

Because then you have grey areas and the staff has to do even more investigations to determine what happened. It's just unnecessary work for staff members, on top of what they're required to do to keep the server running.

Just saying this before anyone else can- I am 100% biased about this, for obvious reasons, so it's definitely fair to look at what I say through that lens.

While I think account sharing bans are completely logical, I think the 30 day ban minimum is a bit extreme. If serious abuse has taken place, permanently is definitely justifiable, but a flat minimum of 30 days seems to be unnecessary. I know MANY people do it for ZJQ who get away uncaught, which is one time I personally think it should be less as it doesn't give you any advantage over other players- just puts you on the same level as other people who have way better impulse, timing, and fine motor control than you do. Also I believe there was a case where someone was asking to delete a character that he said his brother had typed in the name for, and he got banned 30 days just for that, where that literally was someone typing in a few words and affected no one.

Compared to some of the other less serious offenses that harm the community much more, or give you an advantage, i.e. botting only 7 days, harassment only 3. I think the the weight of actions is determined by how much they hurt others (or competitively disadvantage them) which in many cases doesn't occur during account sharing.

Well sources say that if you don't account share at all, you have a 0% chance of getting banned for account sharing.
So just don't do it under any circumstances and there won't be a consequence, bud.

Well, that covers the ZJQ situation. But what about the other situation I mentioned? And regardless, you could say the same thing about botting, that doesn't mean we shouldn't have a discussion about the varying ban lengths. I just think in general the punishment should fit the crime better.

Not entirely sure why the rule is being discussed in this thread. The thread starter just wanted to know reasons why it was not allowed... And that's been answered.

    Closing thread.
