maybe this isnt a big deal (it probably isnt), but you know what really grinds my gears? seeing someone posting a GM app when they've only been apart of the community for 1 or 2 days. can we like put a restriction on posting in that section? like maybe your forum account has to be 6 months old before posting there. what do we look like to you? a community so easy that you could become a GM within 2 days? I'm pretty sure the vast majority of the people who would even be considered for the GM position would be active or at least known on forums, so i dont think the "what if an applicant doesnt have a forum account" excuse would apply. thanks for hearing me out
6 months seems a bit much, since I was only here for a month and a half ish before I became a GM though circumstances back then were different. I do see what you mean though. Someone who just recently joined has absolutely zero chance of becoming a GM. I also would like to add that age comes into play as well. The admins aren't going to start trusting kids (no offense to you kids out there) with the responsibilities the job holds. I really do think you need to be 18+ to even be considered as well.
Ye i saw that too and was tempted to say something about it but didnt bother since the app is just going to be covered up soon anyway. But i think there should be a age restriction (forum age and actual age), because if youre new then you really shouldnt be bothering and if youre young i doubt you'll be even considered
I feel like being familiar with the community, knowing the t&c, the duties of a gm, etc is more important than one's age. I can name 2 people who are very young who i think would make great gm's. But i could see why you guys think a 18 yrs+ should be a requirement.
Well its not just knowing the T&C, you also know need to be mature enough to hold your tongue when a troll is trying to get at you and not just blow up on him.
I understand that, but knowing the rules comes first or how the hell are you going to perform the duties of a gm? 1-2 days is definitely not enough to be familiar with everything needed to be a good gm. The holding your tongue thing is a person by person thing, although i do understand in MOST cases, maturity comes with age. Some people are more level headed than others regardless of their age. Like, im 22, but if troll me, your ass is banned. Cya in 3 days
I just found this funny because immediately after I read this thread, I went on over to the GM Applications thread and saw a person trying to apply, whom had been here for a whopping grand total of two days . I then quietly mumbled to myself "Good lord".
There have been GM's here that were under the age of 18, none of whom worked out actually. It's not a 'rule' and if the person is impressive enough and trustworthy enough they could get hired. Generally speaking age is at least a least decent indication of maturity. Of course there are plenty immature people over the age of 18 and plenty of mature people under the age of 18 but usually kids in high school are pretty immature by default (no offense intended to kids in high school who are reading this). Also, many of the mature kids in high school usually focus a lot on school (studying, clubs, sports, etc) many of them wouldn't be able to dedicate the time. (don't mean to generalize, obviously there are exceptions)
I saw that the "Well-Known Member" tag to the side was added some time ago (either that or I never noticed it ). Does anyone know what exactly it takes to get that tag? Is it possible to put that tag as a requirement to post applications? I know that makes your presence in the server based on your presence in the forums, but I think we can almost all agree that you need a forum presence to have a chance of becoming a GM as well.
That tag is purely based on number of posts and that threshold is set by Xenforo (our forum software) by default, we didn't change the values.
Is it possible to add a minimum number of posts to create a thread in a specific section though? At the very least, we can prevent the GM app from being their first post on the forums. xD
I mean, you don't want some good reading material? It's not like the staff would accept such an application anyway
