Grats to Annie, my question is how did she get GM. She said she didn't fill an application out.. seems a tad unfair to all those who did fill one out.

 

Playing games should be fair.

Running and administrating games? Not so much. The current staff probably realized she was someone who had the potential to do a good job, and approached her instead of (as is the case with applications) the other way around. Like a company promoting from within instead of hiring someone new.

Congrats to Annie =) You're going to be a great GM!

 

This is the way I have always viewed the application system, on MapleStory and anywhere else in the world:

Applications are not required. Ever. Applications are merely for unidentified or formerly unable people to show their interest and perhaps share a few of their viewpoints on obtaining the position, as well as what the position is.

On the other hand, applications should not be a mandatory step in the process of getting a position. The mandatory process should be that the staff team or employers understand who the person for the job is, and then approaching them and offering the job, giving the person the option to deny their request of hiring.

After all, getting a job should not be about you wanting to work for the company, but rather the company wanting you to work for them. If the company has no need for you, then you should not be hired.

To conclude, you rarely see people with applications accepted on MapleStory. People are asked or invited before they make an application, because if they have not been approached or given hints that they are being considered, chances are they aren't going to be considered. While this does not ring true 100% of the time, it is usually the way in which hiring works on MapleStory.

edit: Oh f**k me, I didn't even congratulate the chick. Gratz Annie. If you're the Annie I am sort of familiar with, congratulations, Puppet Master. (You may or may not understand this reference, I never actually approached you about it.)

 

Matt liking your post showing he agrees with your statements makes me feel like an idiot not only for taking the time and writing a serious GM application but also for considering it, thinking it was the way it works.

 

Just because you weren't invited to be a staff member does not necessarily mean you have no chance. I'm assuming Matt liked/agreed with my post more on my take of applications rather than the result of them. I said all this, and I too posted an application. It doesn't make you stupid to do so.
