Every time the server shuts down or something similar, all the shops in fm closes and the items gets lost. Now, i understand that when it happens you try to get our stuff back, but why should everyone go and post it on the forum every time? It is not in any way the players fault and therefore not our responsibility in any way eather. I also understand that you may have problems keeping the server going 100% of the time but every time people loose their things its YOUR responsibility as a gm to give us our stuff back WITHOUT us having to post about it every time on the forum.
Uhm the Game Masters don't get paid, this is a free service, if anything they pay for the server, so technically they are paying us to play their game. So I don't see why a simple post for all their hard work is such a big deal? Also how should they know who is missing what if you don't file a report?
First of all, you are required to give some details about your set of items so the GM's can dig into the database to find the appropriate dataset to refund your loss, and not everyone loses their items (like me for example, my shop manually expired right before the crash so I didn't have to post a thread about it). They can't tell what shop was open during the crash, so restoring all items (if that's even possible) that was in a shop during the last 4-6 hours would result in a lot of duplicated items. Some dishonest people might also try to use this to get items they are not entitled to. Secondly, even if you didn't mention this in your post, the reason you are required to keep your shop closed until your items are refunded is because it makes the GM's job a lot easier to find the correct dataset, and if you would have your shop open, you can't retrieve any items from Fredrick, so while they try to refund you, you have to close it again and that overwrites what Fredrick currently has in store for you with what you just put in the shop again. Thirdly, this only happens when another party is attacking the server, which is out of their responsibility as well. Whenever they intend to do a regular server check, nothing gets lost. I understand this is a feedback post but to me it just sounds like you want everything handed to you on a silver plate while you continue to play the game for free whilst having volunteering GM's do all the work for you.
GMs can't find our items unless we tell then a part of our missing items. I honestly don't think this is a big deal.
I don't want to beat a dead horse, but what everyone said above is exactly why you need to make a post about your lost merchant. And to be brutally honest, you may not like this, but we have NO responsibility whatsoever to restore your merchant items and in fact, I know of at least one server that doesn't restore lost merchant items. Their mindset is "Oh well, you knew this could happen if you use a merchant. Better luck in the future!" “Be thankful for what you have; you'll end up having more. If you concentrate on what you don't have, you will never, ever have enough”
Ok thanx for the replies. When i for the first time had to make a post about it i didnt remember what items i lost so i only posted like "i lost my items" and yet i got back everything i lost (wich i am grateful for), so i assumed that basically i didnt really have to make the post in the first place since the gms already knew what i lost. But i see now that perhaps even giving your name can make it easier to find your items(?) In any case, i didnt post this because i feel lazy posting or anything like that, but rather that i previously thought that the gms could easiely find out what has been lost but they were lazy finding out for some reason. But i see from Johns reply that gms have nothing to do with the crashes. So thanx for clearing it up I also have another comment for you John. I understand what you are doing is good and u give from your time, and i appriciate it, i never said i was unpleased about that. But to be honest, why do u compare yourself with other shitty servers? im not playing in those so why would i care what they do? I am focusing on this server and i thought i would make a feedback about something i thought was unnessessery, but i found out i was wrong. I am ok with that, and i still appriciate what you gms do. This post had nothing to do about that im "not thankful what i have"...
Let me tell you (right from the Horse's mouth) how we refund items. When we restore stuff, we use a database which has a record of everyone's items. (equipment, inventory, shop; everything) John and Matt have been amazing in that they classified all the data into specific folders. However, all your items do not appear as names, e.g Pink Gaia Cape- but rather in numbers- e.g 1102084. If you do not give us what items you lost as reference, all we're looking at is one long list of numbers. Considering that the db refreshes every time an item is bought, we're looking at a long list of a repeated series of numbers. That's why we tell everyone to close their shops every time people lose stuff and not reopen them: if you don't open your shop we can just restore the latest list- but if you do, we have to manually search the item IDs of the stuff you said you lost. Yes you heard me- manually.search. As in look up the item IDs of the stuff you lost and sift through the data of your last recently opened shop. Also John was just trying to make a point: how we are actually putting in effort into running the server. Everyone does a ton of stuff. From Wz editting, to coding, to hosting, recording and planning events, to fixing bugs, and of course- protecting the server from buggers like the ddoser. and yeah- we do it for free. None of us gets paid. :O We put in effort cos we lubs you guys- the community is just so fab... until I see a post like yours and my heart breaks a little cos it feels as though our work doesn't count for much D: In any case- Peace. <3 I'm glad you took the trouble to understand!
What causes this to happen, anyway? (items being lost when the server goes down) Is it not preventable? Do your devs not have the know-how to make it preventable?
