I can't quite remember when they were added in GMS but I am refering to the individual maps you could enter that had a 2 hour timer on them or something. Adding these player dungeons on highly frequented maps such as Dragon Nest Left Behind (Skeles) would alleviate the stress involved in finding a map and then actually keeping it through DCs or whatever. Furthermore KSing would be decreased. Keep in mind I have no knowledge in coding whatsoever so I don't know if this is even doable.
Good in the sense that there will always be map available. Bad in the sense that it destroys the purpose of this version. I highly doubt it's doable since the maps does not exists in the wz file. Instances of dungeons weren't added until much later...I don't even remember whether v83 has it or not. But I don't think so.
I believe its v83. Dungeons are separate maps, and there was one for skeles, almost as good as the original map.
Personally I like it more without mini-dungeons. We are 'protected' from KS with the '~mapowner' command so I don't think that argument is valid, finding am empty channel can be hard but is nowhere near impossible (perhaps adding a few more channels could be a better solution for that). The main reason I dislike this is that it gives botters and the few hackers that slip by the auto-ban system a place to safely train and hide from the eyes of everyone who is not a GM.
No, what TS is referring to is the mini dungeon, not premium mini dungeon which you need to buy some ticket from the CS to enter. And it's costly too...from what I remember. But the Miracle scrolls and apple drop rates were insanely high.
The fact that KSing is against the rules here is all the more reason for the mini dungeons IMO. On old maple you could boot someone else off their map. Survival of the fittest (or highest hitting mage ). However once all - what - 8 channels(?) are full that's it for this server. Edit - I mis-read the second part of your post. Removed.
Still, I think there are far better solutions than giving a free place to hide for botters/hackers. Buffing other areas so they have similar hp/exp/spawn ratio than the most popular maps of the same level could be one for example.
The Admins are working on those kinds of dungeons for the new source, but won't be coming out right when the new source is released.
That makes for exactly the same effort for GMs to track botters/hackers. Whether they check 10 additional mini dungeons or 10 additional normal maps makes no difference. The only valid point you might have is that other players can't spot botters in these areas and therefore they are unable to report them themselves.
That is exactly my point. I don't know how many botters the GMs find themselves and how many they find with the help of the community but my impression is that the community finds a good amount of them (I could be wrong). Also I think that not been able to hide from the eyes of other players discourage at least some potential botters from actually doing it, reducing the total number of cases.
I know what TS is referring to i just mentioned that the mini dungeons in mine opinion just left there after ending the premium mini dungeon event.
Considering there's a consistent 500-800 players online everyday and only 10 channels. Yea I support this. Sometimes us players don't have enough time to wait out a map's usage. Being able to log on and hit up skeles right away would be a huge plus. An idea to prevent botters: Spoiler Regarding botting, you could input a timed quiz/question box that asks you a very simple question such as "What is 1+1". The person being asked would have a certain amount of time to answer that question. If they run out of time or don't answer correctly, the system disconnects them and a notice could be sent by the system to a GM who could check up on them later. The simple question/quiz box should pop up at random before the 2 hour timer runs out! gMS used this in certain maps and it worked :^) Anyway, if what @Plenty said is true, this thread may be useless
If they were to add these dungeons, there should be a restriction tough. Maybe an entrance limit per day or something similiar. Because even with the amount of players here the parent maps could quickly become empty if everyone just enters the mini dungeons. They should also carefully consider for which maps to add these. There are mini dungeons in places such as the Rain Forest left to Henesys or the Ant Tunnel. For these it's really not needed and adding them could just ruin the nostalgia in victoria island.
I think fully functional minidungeons are needed if we're going to support a considerably higher player base than we have on the current live server. We do intend to work on these once the new source is up and running and when we've got the inital teething troubles out of the way. We are aware of the issue of people potentially botting in minidungeons and will obviously have to discuss the best ways of combatting this - I have a number of ideas to put forward.
