Can I introduce myself? I joined around two months ago, attracted to the nostalgia of a game that was the highlight of my childhood, with the best music, best graphics, and best community. Maplestory to me was like Daisy Buchanan to Jay Gatsby. When I logged into MapleRoyals for the first time, I got goosebumps. I knew I was here to stay. But within a week, I learned that even though I loved old Maple so much, I didn't know jack shit about it. Apparently you have to wear stuff with INT when you level up so you don't get one-shotted by important things later. I asked my guild mates about it, and they told me that the easiest way to get some INT equipment was to wear a scrolled Green Bandana and Old Raggedy Cape as soon as possible before I could buy a Zakum Helmet. The cape scrolls weren't a problem at all. Cape INT 100% drops from a pretty popular grinding spot, and I picked up a few Cape INT 60% just going up and down Orbis Tower and grinding tricolor cat things, and ended up with a +9 cape that I was pretty happy with. However... i'm sorry gossamer but you never told me how hard this would be Would anyone like to explain to me why there are only two non-boss enemies that drop any Helmet INT scrolls at all? Is that why I almost never see them on FM? Why is an unpopular Gachapon the only source of Helm INT 100%? What's up with that? Will my Green Bandana never lose its virginity...? Here's my suggestion. According to BeforeBigBang, Stirge drops Helm INT 100%. In MapleRoyals, it drops Knuckler 60% instead. Can we replace Knuckler 60% with Helm INT 100% in Stirge's drop table? (Knuckler 60% drops from loads of different enemies, and the demand is not very high anyways.) Similarly, BBB lists Homunculus and Drake with a Helm INT 60% drop, but not in Royals. Scrolling a helmet for INT would be a lot easier if the scrolls we needed weren't obtainable only from an unpopular Gach and from two high-leveled enemies (Chief Memory Guardian, Yeti & Pepe). If there's a good reason why Helm INT has to be rare, I'll understand (though I won't be happy about it). But frankly, I don't think they have to be rare at all. tl;dr bbb says that stirge, homunculus, and drake drop helm int, but in royals they don't. also, no one does ellinia gach. so there's never any helm int in fm, i can't scroll my bandana, and life sucks. please make at least those three monsters drop what bbb says that they drop
Because this server isn't meant to be easy. The scrolls aren't too expensive themselves and HP Washing is suppose to be an end game mechanic.
CBD, a fairly popular gach locatin with the chance to get white raccoon masks, BVMs, and eye int 100's also drops helm int 100's. Cape int is easy to acquire due to the fact it drops from apq and gpq. Capes overall are less sought after unless it's a pgc, so I don't see anything wrong with having a less sought after scroll be more readily available.
Actually, I didn't know that most Cape INT 100% on FM were from pqs; I got all of mine from Bubblings. See, I'm very poor, so I often hunt for scrolls myself. I'm a little bit bothered by the fact that hunting for Helm INT 100% isn't an option unless I want to gach for myself (totally impractical if I'm trying to fill 10 slots). Are people trying to say that Helm INT from Gachapon is enough? Because I haven't seen any Helm INT 100% on FM yet. Yeah, they may exist, but they're too rare, especially considering that the Beginner's HP Washing Guide tells people to buy ten of them, meaning that every new player who plans to HP wash is searching for a scroll that almost never appears.
The BBB guide is not what the drops were for v0.62, but rather a pre-BB version closer to the BB transition so I believe in terms of this item, our drops are accurate to what they actually were in v0.62
Again, HP washing is an end-game mechanic, especially in the current source where none of the bosses even attack correctly. The people that keep trying to say that it is required are wrong. You are able to play this game perfectly fine without washing. Most players don't even reach a point where HP washing becomes noticeable/relevant, let alone washing with int gear.
*yawn. what's your class? ign? i suggest making a bishop first then focus on your preferred role to make hp washing easier. i can loan you a 13 int green dana if you want.
Building on this - use the royals library for a better indication of what drops where in this version. http://library.royals.ms/ It's in Beta, but it's still really useful.
Sorry. I wrote that part of the guide in like 2 minutes. I probably just owl'ed the scrolls, looked at the price, and put it on there. I never cared to check for the availability. Honestly, it's a bit silly to go for INT on a hat, since you can just get a Zak Helm at lvl 50. If you check out the class-specific tables in my guide, you will see that no class needs all that much INT in order to Horntail. Spearmen only need 10 INT. Gunslingers only need 10 INT. Assassins only need 20 INT by lvl 68, which can be easily acquired with a Zak Helm. And Archers, the hardest ones, just need 30 INT by level 53. All of these classes can easily be done with a scrolled wand and a zak helm. Archers might need a cape, too. And you're entirely solid with an INT overall. And if you can't afford everything, just throw some AP into INT. You'll do a little less damage than everyone else. Not the end of the world. But if you want the speediest leveling, you're going to need to make a tad bit of money first. Either, it's put some time in to make money, put time in to make a Bishop, or put some time into leveling a bit slower. It's REALLY not that hard to, at least, wash for Horntail. Other goals can get expensive, but the bare minimum isn't too difficult.
This may sound conceited, but I'm opposed to having a lot of the good scrolls drop from weaker mobs. As others have articulated, HP washing is an end game mechanic that becomes accessible once you've dedicated a fair amount of time and effort. A lot of people (myself included) messed up HP washing on their first characters; I think the trial and error process is part of what makes this game fulfilling. The monster drop system is also incredibly delicate. Let's say Helm INT 60 becomes an easily farmable scroll from weaker mobs. INT Bandanas will become oversaturated, prices will probably crash. Demand for other HP wash equips could go down for those with a limited HP washing budget. The higher level players who train at Memory Lane 5 will get a lower $/hour. Not saying that all of this would happen, but changing the drop system would have a ripple effect that causes unhealthy shocks to the economy. I also don't think INT bandanas are expensive to begin with. You're looking at a 100-150 mil investment for 12-14 INT, which is a bargain compared to how much a comparable robe or shield would cost. Another option is to just add base INT, which you can always reset later once you reach bossing level and accumulate the funds to buy the AP resets you need.
Basically, my opinion is that if Helm INT 100% was available from monsters from the start, people probably wouldn't have complained/asked for it to be removed, but our economy has been shaped by its rarity, so if we were to add those as drops now, prices would change. Well, duh, prices change whenever anything happens, and that's an argument that can always be raised against any adjustment, even when that adjustment is supposed to please many people and perhaps annoy a few. Is preserving the stability of the economy really important enough to prevent us from making this change, a change that feels less like an update and more like a solution to a developer oversight?
I don't think any developer oversight occurred. The BBB guide you're referencing is simply from later on, after v0.62 occurred in GMS and the drops were updated. What we have here is how it was in v0.62 and how we intend to keep it for now.
Also, while helm int 100s are relatively harder to obtain, helm 60s are pretty readily available in fm. Average price is about 12-13m, which is easily doable. That's less than 2 AP resets, 6-7 TP rocks, or 4-5 charms (and that's not even counting other money from simply grinding and npc/merching your own items). And as people have said, hp washing is not required to even horntail at the moment. It's a choice each player makes about what they do/don't want to do, as well as what they're willing to pay in order to potentially boss at an earlier level. It's a luxury, not a necessity.
