This is an effort made independently by players of the community who feel that they should fundraise. In fact, the exact reason was given in the initial post I believe. If you feel other victims of scamming should have fundraisers held for them, why don't you lead the effort and start a fundraiser for them? In short, people can do whatever they want (within the rules) and these people are choosing to support these specific people.
The reason why there is a public fundraiser is because of the magnitude of the scam(s) that happened. There have been many cases that I've seen where someone was scammed of a smaller amount and were graciously repaid by a single, or a small handful of members from the community. For example, someone was scammed out of their mesos when they attempted to buy leech, and a few members of the community offered to leech that person for free to compensate for the mesos they lost. Because it's such a large amount, whether you count the 7b+ total or the 2b+ each individual was scammed, it's unlikely that a single person will take it upon themselves to repay them back. The fundraiser is here to help raise a large amount of money together to repay what one person cannot. On top of that, the fact that they were scammed by a more.. reputable member subtracts a little from the idea of, "if you got scammed, you should have been more careful."
Yes we would want to help everyone, and yes we would like the community to stand firm against negative and toxic people, but sometimes there is a fine line between sheer stupidity and absolute obliviousness. As Jeen has mentioned, for those lower scale chain scams, the scenario can easily be avoided if they did some extra research on the forums, or even just asked a different array of people and I'm sure somebody would've stood up and told them "don't buy from X between Y has been scammed by them" or "check the forum blacklist", etc. However, within this specific case, of course many would argue that it is the victim's own fault but this situation was a lot harder to prevent. Having said all that, I want you to understand that it is almost impossible to get rid of toxic players, ill-minded people, and I'm sure that many of us have been on the losing side of many disappointing scenarios and we think, oh god, why is this happening to me? I just wanted to buy a decent weapon, a decent cape or just be that one little step better than I was before, so why am I the victim? I'm sure that we wanted someone, or some people to be there for US during those hard times. One of the big factors that I wanted to do is, is to tell everyone; as well as the victims of Haul, even though you may experience hardships, don't give up on your goals. For many of us here, we may already know that it wasn't easy, that it was challenging, that the road on this 2-dimensional side scrolling game was difficult. However, because we endured these hardships, we would like the victims to understand that we, the same people who endured these hardships are there for them in times like these. This very 2-dimensional side scrolling game has molded a strong community, and whether we know each other or not, I think we are a family. Why did we choose to play this server? I'm sure many of us would say we wanted to experience the nostalgia, the aspects of the game from years ago, which included a strong community to help protect, empower and cherish the existence of each and every member. So to answer, your question "why start this now" I ask you, why are you asking this question instead of stepping up and starting this before? I believe that each and every one of us are good people, but we all just need one little push, a little bit of guidance to bring out the best in us. I want each and every person to know, that people like Haul are going to exist, people like Haul and going to try to break you, but for every 1 person like Haul there will be hundred of people like us. To any victims that have been scammed, get back on your feet, and let your scammers know that they may have taken a little bit of mesos from you, but you are on a whole new level, because you don't need to scam, you don't need to lie, you don't need to cheat to win. Most importantly, let your scammers know that they have themselves alone, but you have hundreds of Royalers on your side.
Haul was in me and Pulse's guild, Eternal. Given he had a pretty good reputation on the server, we feel a sort of responsibility to help out the victims who were scammed. While I find sympathy for other people who have also been scammed in this server, we felt like it would be something nice to do for the holidays to try and get spirits back, while also encouraging these players to feel like the community is there to help them. Unfortunately it's not realistic to fund raise for every person who's been scammed, but this is a start.

I had my doubt with regards to the positivity of this fund raising, to be honest, I felt that scamming is part of the whole Maple experience. Someone is bound to be scammed at least once, be it whether the amount is a huge one or a small one. And the matter of fact, the victims are all pretty gullible with the way they traded. In anyways, kudos to @injeenious for taking the responsibility of this fund raising campaign though. My good friend @Sugar decided to liquidate her entire asset after reading this thread, so here is 700m in the name is Sugary27. Hope the funds raised, will be of a good cause!
Hello everyone, We would like to thank everybody that have contributed to the fundraiser and we have decided to wrap up the fundraiser. Combined we have raised 4945M Mesos and a combined 650M mesos were donated to victims directly. This means that together we have raised 5600M mesos in total. I first and foremost would like to thank @injeenious for taking the responsibility of holding all the mesos and leading the fundraiser. Secondly, I would like to thank everybody that have contributed to the fundraiser, no matter the amount; for your support and understanding of the situation, and the donations of the time foregone to make the mesos, and to read our cause, thank you very much for your support. To close this up, even though we were not able to fund raise the full amount, I don't think that's to say we weren't successful in our efforts. Although we were only able to sum up 5600M total, I feel like the community really did come together and help the victims of Haul. So thank you everyone that took the time to read this, to help us, to help the people that were scammed and I believe that your generosity will not be forgotten, as long as we are all around! Just a kind reminder to everyone that in the future, if you guys want to purchase an expensive item, it is always possible to use a middle-man, someone that is well trusted by the community and that way it minimizes the risk of getting scammed and hopefully eliminates future situations like this one. With thanks, AtariMoni (Pulse)
