I'm not one to talk about the math involved with party exp rates, but I do remember them being altered to deter leeching and promote large parties. If something like that were to change, which I highly doubt it will, in combination with buffing the maps in the Ludibrium Clocktower, it might just be enough to facilitate training for mid-level bossing classes.

Another suggestion is to alter the code that allows players to gain exp from monsters within five levels of both monsters and their party members and implement the method GMS used a bit later on. Party exp was distributed solely using the average of all the party members' levels.

I would prefer to have leech entirely dropped from the server, but can't see any way of doing that without having to make drastic changes that would annoy/anger the community. I guess that's why Nexon almost never nerfed anything. Still, there's no legit reason for the staff to appease the players since part of the nostalgia was having to put up with mages owning the grinding maps.

Last I played genesis was still in the game, but they hit it with a massive cooldown (like 20 sec?) making it pretty useless. It's just a fun attack for bishop's to throw out on occasion not a main attacking skill. I wouldn't even ask for that here tho. Id be satisfied with a nerf just making it less effective to the point where its not horrible, but people prefer party training.

Nexon also makes it possible to level to 200 in one day. I'd love to know if this is what you were wanting as well, because you are absolutely correct, it would get rid of leeching indubitably! Because bishops literally have 0 place to level since it obviously won't be doing any dmg to a boss.

A bit more on topic, I like bossing and partying with people to kill a boss. Grinding through earlier levels was what made me want to quit before I got there. How dare you guys try to tell me what I find a "good" experience or not? For me, it was hell. Where I am right now, bossing with, omg wait for it, other people, is fun! You guys are entitled to your own opinion, but that doesn't make your opinion any "better" than mine. It is quite condescending and rude of you folks to assume so.

If you don't want to leech, in the words of someone I respect, you do you. I will keep doing me too. If I turned around and started talking badly about people who don't want leech, that would be rude of me too, and completely unnecessary.

I think this thread has brought up 0 new points and many recycled, old ones that has just made it another flame-y thread on leech. I personally think it's time to close it before it gets out of hand.

This thread was never flamey until you decided you say "how dare you guys try to tell me..." and made things personal... Also I don't see a problem with bringing up the same old topics if the community shows clear interest in it. This thread's only been up for a day and it's already gotten more replies/views than most of the other threads on the front page. Let the people discuss what they want, if you don't want to take part in it, "you do you, I'll keep doing me."

im currently playing the reboot world of gms, and that gen skill is definitely not a "fun skill" for bishops. all the hyper skills like that are very useful in grinding parties or doing your ToT/other questlines wher eyou have to kill large amounts of mobs. also bishops/other mages are no longer able to leech, pretty much no leech at all there or its free zzzz. pretty nice and everyone can equally farm mesos at about the same rate i guess.

@OP leech is going to die down though later, imo. the new source is bringing many pq's that are great for the lv 70-135 non mage classes from what i remember.. rnj is great for it and at higher lvs, when you have better damag, roid grinding is reallyr eally good at rnj pq. just stop at the 4th map and grind, then in the last 2-4 minutes rush to the boss, kill it, or send a scout out to ensure you can rush back into the pq (probably wont have to do that on royals, but way back in gms, you had to do this since it was so crowded x.x)

but yeah with the new pq's, people will probably see that they can level easily still and have more fun, while also saving mesos not spent on leech ^ ^ just wait for that and see how it goes before saying nerf leech/mages. its really annoying cuz theyd have to rework mages entirely like they are on gms. that would be a TON of work for all the GMs who already have a huge workload with and without the new source and dont even get payed for all of it so....

fun fact: once you hit 135 and get your important skills to 135 and some decent gear, you can start ob grinding parties which is really good exp <3 i was getting wrecked in a hero duo with my bishop who was killing way faster than me. I only 3-4 at the time, but bishops can only 2 hit ob at best and thats with gen 30 and ok gear i think so... and you still cant attack at ht for exp lol., pretty balanced endgame imo.)

It has gotten a more replies/views of all regurgitated info. No viable propositions like its predecessors, no realistic options. I don't see a problem with bringing up old topics either if the community shows clear interest and it produces new information. This has not in the least.

And I am doing me. I am making sure all the new people who view this thread realize that despite the "leech leech!!" complainers, that people don't leech very much or very far and that the MAJORITY of your time should be spent grinding (if you want to level ineffectively *cough @Christopher Chance cough (ily chance pls no hate)* Clearly I want to take part since I posted. Am I no longer allowed to state my opinions on this thread because it disagrees with yours? I don't think there's really much more to discuss that can't be found elsewhere. Please point me to an opinion on this thread that has not been discussed on a thread already in the past, and not shut down. If you do, I will more than willingly ponder the idea. Otherwise, why are you entitled to your opinions on this thread, while I am not?

And maybe you like to see it as never "flamey," but there has been MORE than enough condescending posts on this thread looking down on people who like to leech their characters as if they are somehow beneath people who want to grind it out. So in my opinion, yes it was flame-y. In your opinion, maybe it wasn't until I said so. See how it's all a matter of opinion? That right there is what I'm considering flame-y. You have made it more than clear I'm not welcome because my opinions differ from yours as well as many others who have replied with condescending remarks to people who have a GENUINE argument for leeching. No one told you to leech. If you don't like it, then don't do it. Simple as that.

Here is an analogy I thought up in regards to leech:
There are two ways to get from point A to point B. There are three people who want to get to point B. One person chooses to take a plane. The plane ticket is very expensive, but they want to get there as quickly as possible and experience the things point B has to offer as soon as they can. Once they get there though, they realize they spent all their money on the plane ticket and now have very little funds to indulge in the things there are to do there. This is for people who decide to buy leech. You can get to a certain level faster, but now you're too broke to buy items, gear, apples, whatnot. You can still enjoy stuff, but let's be real, it's not as fun when you have almost nothing. But then again, sometimes money doesn't matter as long as you can spend time with people asap. Now there is the second person. They decided to go by ship. It takes them a lot longer to get to point B, but the ship cost a lot less money. Now they get to buy souvenirs, eat nice food, enjoy musicals, etc etc. These are the people who choose to grind. Yeah, being stuck on the ship may have sucks and you might have been lonely, but instead you actually have money to buy gear and items that you need for your character! Or, you can be the third person. The person who spends forever making their own plane, but now they don't have to pay for the flight! But instead, they have to invest a LOT of time into making that plane in the first place. This is for people who MAKE bishops. But realistically, making a plane is not meant for everyone. Regardless of which path you choose, you have to invest a lot of time into this game either for making money, grinding, or self leeching.

And guess what, there will always be people getting to that level at the same time as you. You will never be alone.

Why do you care what we're talking about in here? we were just discussing shit and then you barged in here and started acting all holier-the-thou, saying we're the ones being "flamey", when now look what you've done.

I'm not better than anyone leeching lol. I just leeched my CB from 110 to 120 at skeles! Why? Cause it's just more efficient, and it being more efficient makes other options LESS efficient and LESS used. I would have loved to just train in large parties at skeles, but they don't exist because of all the reasons discussed in this thread.

You act as if you're somehow, emotionally wounded or hurt by the discussion of how leech effects the server. Like we're oppressing you or something.

All your posts seriously put me in a horrible mood. We should be able to freely discuss this without you makign us out to be the bad guys.

And if you wanna make this about the whether or not leeching is "okay", which it's not, why don't we follow the servers nostalgic dream and start BANNING leechers? Cause that's how it was back in the day.

Please keep the thread on topic. It'd be a shame if it had to be closed within a day of the OP. We're supposed to be brainstorming ideas, not arguing about morals here. Let the staff decide whether or not to allow the thread to die by itself or to close it manually.

Replying solely to the main post:
I wouldn't mind if leech was abolished. What I would much rather have is grinding being a better alternative to leeching without using high attack potions and godly gear.

That being said, leeching has been way too rooted in MapleRoyals culture to get rid of it now. Not much more we can say about leeching unless Matt decided to do something about it.

This right here is why I'm saying it's flame-y. You told me I came barging in with a "holier than thou" attitude, when to be quite frank, everyone for getting rid of leech has been more than happy to look down on people who leech and say you're doing it wrong. You're looking down on people, and so have many others, that leeching is not okay. You guys are the ones who made people who leech, the bad guys. Many of the things in the "nostalgic dream" you talk about are bannable here by the way. Like KS'ing for one. KS wars were nostalgic wouldn't you say? However, not exactly healthy. Neither was the experience rate or the drop rate, hence both have been increased on this server.

To stay on topic, I am agreeing with Penny that more maps might help. I believe that the reason why NLC and ULU City was added (although not quite sure) was for more map variety and grind areas. I even saw a thread somewhere about wanting Neo Tokyo. I believe it added maps that were viable from 75+ so it might make a great addition if tweaked with drops because I believe the normal ones would be gamebreaking. Either way, it wouldn't have to be these maps in particular, but certain additions might be added to better accommodate our growing player base and lack of good training locations. There are many good ones, but having the addition of a few, or buffing of current spawn rates in maps we currently have wouldn't be a bad idea. For example, I know someone mentioned MP3, but I remember grinding there quite often and was sad to see that the spawn rate is not very comparable. Even buffing that map alone might make for some more varied training locations, plus I believe that map was big enough so that it would encourage partying (if the spawn rate was high enough).

    Yes... Thank you.

That is the point, rather than create some sort of leech prohibition, make other options more viable.

The only ways are REMOVING leech are just simply not feasible.

Honestly idk why I've gotten this invested in this conversation.

I went to bed, woke up, and found this. I won't lie; I'm pretty disappointed. I'll give some context as to why I left this thread open at all.

I am sure that people do know I'm opposed to removing leech from this game entirely. What I'm not opposed to is varied gameplay methods, so that everyone can find what works for them, and what they enjoy for themselves. The OP seemed to have at least had that halfway in his mind, and though I disagreed with the initial point of his post, removing leech, I left it open because I wanted to believe that the players who tell others "you don't have to leech" and would have meaningful experiences to contribute about what they did 75-130, and perhaps insight on how to improve those experiences. There seem to be a lot of players saying that they didn't need to leech, and yet people are more concerned with telling one another they're wrong than actually addressing the problem. Now that may be due to the way this thread was worded, that may be the stigma around this type of thread, that may be because of the way these players were treated in return when they did decide to post (and between you and me, I'm going to put my money on that last one being the cause) but for whatever reason, we all devolved into flaming one another even after I explicitly asked you all not to. I'd still like to believe that compromise between people who dislike leech and people who do like leech is possible, but I'm slowly starting to believe that that's a naive thing to believe in.

The other gripe I have with this thread is that people came in and held the opinion that there's nothing wrong with manual grind from 75-130, and that's perfectly okay. What isn't okay is the people in favor of change bashing these people and telling them to leave; their opinion is just as valuable as yours, because they're players who hold experiences just like you do. That was NOT acceptable.

I felt that this thread may have had potential to at least propose ideas that may make 3rd job less centralized towards leech (because it is, really, whether that's good or bad is your own opinion) but instead, we all decided we wanted to attack one another for our beliefs. I'm disappointed with everyone that negatively posted in this thread, and sad that nothing will come of this topic... yet again.
