Closed (In my opinion) unnecessary ban which does not benefit the server in any way

I make a thread in the Character Issues forum expecting to get help because I am unable to log on due to a bug that was affecting dozens of people. I find it a bit ridiculous that I got banned for 30 days for simply testing the issue on a friend's account.. I didn't do anything wrong, I didn't negatively affect other people's gameplay experience at all.

Yes, I broke a rule. However, I didn't even know it was against the rules, because let's face it, there are not many people who actually read the entire Terms & Conditions. Don't tell me you read the entire Terms & Conditions every time you install anything on your phone or computer. I don't see why this is a rule in the first place.

I used my common sense, as in, I did not see anything that would harm the server's community in any way by having me test the issue on my friend's account. I even told this exact reason to Manny, but he continued to ban me anyway.

Please unban me? I need something to do while I'm bored.

 

Ignorance of the rules does not make breaking the rules acceptable. I understand why you may think what you did is okay, and I can point you to many threads made over the years arguing for and against account sharing, certain parts of account sharing being allowed but not others, etc. but at the end of the day, the rules are stated as they are right now and they do not allow you to logon to an account that does not belong to you for any reason.

The result of you violating that rule is a 30 day ban since it is considered a minor infraction of the rule. Please take this time to ensure you have read the T&C in full so that you are not banned for not knowing about any other rules of this server.

Is it supposed to teach me a lesson, make me not do it again? Not to be rude, but I wouldn't have had to log in on my friend's account in the first place if your server didn't have so many bugs. There's a new problem every single week. Again, not trying to be rude, just stating the facts here.

Rules are made to keep a community at peace, to create a system that is fair to everyone. The way I see it, you're banning me for doing something that had zero impact on anyone. Am I not part of the very community that the GMs are supposed to protect?

Is this going to teach me a lesson? No. Has justice been served? No. I didn't do anyone harm, there is no justice at all. It's simply an inconvenience to me that I am now unable to play a game for 30 days, one that I already did not play a lot in the first place.

I've been on this server for two months, didn't hurt a single fly. Can't you just let it slip this time?

You're acting like I committed a murder or some other serious crime. I didn't. I logged in on a MapleStory server using a friend's account.

I've been lurking these forums for two months already. See my profile registration date. The one time I make a post to report a bug caused by your buggy system, I get banned instead. Like wtf?

Please try seeing this situation from my point of view.

 

You wouldn't have had to log onto your friend's account at all. All you needed to do was post in the shoutbox or, a crazy idea, message your friend and ask him to try on their account. If the server has so many problems, don't play here. It's that simple.

And no we cannot let it slip because if we did it for you, we would have to do it for everyone. The rules were made, and we stick to them.

 

I never said that the server having too many problems made me not want to play on this server anymore, that's what you made out of it. And actually, I did in fact do exactly the two things you just mentioned.

The very first thing I did was in fact post in the Shoutbox. People suggested a couple of solutions to me, I tried them all and none of them worked. The game was working fine for my brother, so yes I did in fact let someone else try logging in and it worked fine for them. It was only then that I tried logging in on my friend's account. Review the Shoutbox logs if you don't believe me.

But fine then, I will accept my ban. -_-

Can you at least unban my brother's account who you banned as a result of my actions? He did nothing wrong. His character name is ApplePie69.

 

If you are living with your brother there is no way to unban him without you being able to play.

 

Can't you just ban my account? He shouldn't have to pay for my actions.

No that's not possible, you both will have to stay banned for the full duration.

 

I didn't harm anyone by logging into a friend's account, now you are the ones who are actually harming someone.

You are preventing an innocent person from playing the game. Why can't you just only ban my account? What is so impossible about that?

The ban isn't even justified in the first place, and now someone else who had absolutely nothing to do with it has to pay for it?

Great staff team, guys. You're supposed to protect the players, this is the exact opposite.

When you made your account for MapleRoyals you agreed to accept and have read the Terms & Conditions of this server, this means that you (should) know the rules and know that account sharing is prohibited. When you ran into trouble you decided to ignore the rules and log into your friend's account instead of asking for help from a Staff member and patiently waiting for this issue to be resolved.
In the current scenario you are blaming us for a ban you find unjustified even though the only person you can thank for this ban is yourself, as you have made the decision to break the rules.. not us.

Here on MapleRoyals we're very strict with the rules and can't make any exceptions, so you will have to serve the ban of 30 days. During this ban period I advise you to read the Terms & Conditions once more if you wish to continue playing after the ban has been lifted, to avoid future problems like these.

 

Yes, I already acknowledged that I broke the rules, and I also accepted waiting out my ban. You're just repeating what other GMs have said already.

That does not justify banning my brother's account, who once again, had nothing to do with this at all.

 

I'm guessing your brother uses the same internet as you, in which case he can thank you for getting banned as our bans are ip and mac address based.
