Infront him are two doors, one leading to heaven and the other to hell. Infront of each door stands a guard, one who always tells the truth, and one that always lies. And of course, Peter doesn't know which guard tells the truth and which one lies. Peter can ask or say one thing to one guard, to find out which door leads to heaven. What does Peter have to say or ask to find the door to heaven? * Note that if any door opens, that is the door Peter has to take Winner/Answer Spoiler Saki - You would ask one of the guards what the other guard would say. Let's say heaven is left and hell is right. The guard telling the truth would tell you what the lying guard would say. So he says right. Simply take the other door. The guard who lies all the time would not say what the honest guard would say. So he also says right. So they wait hidden nearby the gate so that they will overhear the countersign from another soldier. One soldier comes and the guard gives the sign: "6".The soldier answers "3".The guard lets him pass. Another soldier comes.The guard says "12" and the soldier gives the answer "6".The guard lets him pass. So, the first spy goes at the gate and the guard asks says "10".The spy, sure that he knew the answer as he was, says "5". Immediately, the guard shoots him dead. Then the other spy, who saw that the other spy was killed when he gave the countersign, had now understood what the right answer would be, whatever the guard's sign was.So, he walks to the gate and the guard says "8".The spy gives the correct answer and the guard lets him in. it might get you the guard that all ways says the truth and the one that all ways lies , but where did it say that the one that says the truth is that one that standing on the door that leads to heaven?
Peter can ask either of them what the other will say if he asked them and then go into the other door. Answer: "If I ask the other guard, which door will he/she tell me leads to heaven?"
