Hey everyone! So I've been putting a lot of thought into doing a perma beginner really soon. I was wondering if anyone has posted a guide on the forums regarding that subject. If so I would appreciate a link to it, thank you! -Sync.
Would have a ton of overlap with the leech spot guide. Seriously though, it's not something you can efficiently train yourself.
Honestly I refuse to leech on any character I own, that concept bothers me. I'll be doing all my own training
Your training spots would be pretty much limited to Teddies until 200, or a similar monster with low avoid and 1000-1500 HP. 1. No mastery, your range will be something like 85-2000 with godly equips at level 100 with extremely low accuracy (based on what I remember from 2008 GMS top perma beginners) 2. No mob skill (obviously) 3. Low HP Maybe consider an islander? I remember having tons of fun grinding my Khaini islander to level 28 or 29.
I appreciate your responses btw, thanks!. I was going to do an islander but there is part of me that wants to party quest with friends and stuff like that. I don't see myself taking the character very far, but I'll definitely enjoy doing it. Perhaps an islander would be a fun idea as well.
I have a level 55 perma beginner on the server. I have great equips and currently train at forest of golem, so "teddies until 200" is a little unreasonable to suggest. The key to having a perma beginner is to have just enough accuracy to hit monsters with 25 avoid and then dump the rest into STR. Most people on GMS would cap dex at 60(at level 30,) then dump str. With a plethora of dex scrolls and equips on maple royals, however, you can easily cap your dex much lower(mine is 36 right now?) and use dex equips. Helms with accuracy are also invaluable. I have done Kerning PQ and Ludi PQ. Yes, your damage is going to be wildly inconsistent. I have a 238 ATT maroon mop and my damage range is like 350 ~ 3150. However, you can still train on your own basically wherever you want as long as you keep up with your equips and stats. YES, it is going to take MUCH longer to level than most people, which is why people suggest leeching. I would say if you want to train on your own, as I do, its just a fun character to have to provide a change of pace. I also have put some AP into HP/done some HP washing in order to get a Zhelm, which after a ton of HP scrolling I finally achieved. There's a lot of possibilities! I'm Ticonderoga in game, feel free to message me for any questions! Also, this guide was my bible back in the GMS days: http://www.obsidian.shivtr.com/forum_threads/103599 The info is mostly still applicable, minus some of the equips. In particular, you should use a frozen tuna starting at level 20, then get a maroon mop at 36 and never look back. These are relatively cheap(like 1m) because they are beginner only and most people just try to get rid of them.
I was curious if FoG was actually better, so I wrote a script to do the math: With a level 55 perma with total 270 str, total 60 dex, 260 total watk, including stab/swing multipliers for polearms, I get an adjusted average range of 386~2935 between swings and stabs. With 100% hitrate, and a potted damage range of 430-3196 at FoG (6000 hp/160 def/210 exp and 4800 hp/150 def/200 exp) versus teddies (1050 hp/50 def/65 exp and 950 hp/38 def/60 exp), you average 51 exp per swing at teddies and 56 exp per swing at FoG, so with your stats, you're correct, but it's crazy close, especially with the lack of movement skills on a beginner. Zhelm on a 5x beginner is awesome though, congrats on that for sure.
I appreciate the math! Yea its definitely very tough, golems are no joke especially when it takes anywhere from 3 - 6 hits just to kill one, and you're right, the lack of mobility is painful. Hell, a lot of beginners that I knew in GMS would specifically scroll LOTS of equips with speed or jump or both just to help. But in the end, it's important to emphasize that it's mostly for fun . Perma beginner levels so unbelievably slowly, but for me, it's just cool to log on and say "hey, im level 55, i have a zhelm, and I'm a beginner who can kill GOLEMS." It's mostly neat more than anything.
