I/l are quicker and easier to level, since they get a mob attack in 2nd job where as f/p don't

Poison Mist training for 3rd job F/P mages is probably the fastest way to get to level 120 without leeching. F/P's have great damage as well, if not the best of the magician class.

A bishop won't be necessary as long the HS mule stays below lvl 85 w/ max HS; your future main will benefit greatly from the archmage/hs mule duo as it is :D

F/P have a really rough 2nd job, but by far the best 3rd job at leveling.
i/l has very good 2nd job, and very good 3rd job as well.
Once you hit 4th job, F/P do have cheaper books then i/l, but honestly seeing how blizz30 is only 200m atm its not that big of a deal. Unless you got some crappy luck that is.
If you have no intentions to grind in oblivion with your mage, then it matters less if you're a F/P.
If you can get through the 2nd job, F/P is a really good pick, but if you want smooth sailing all around, i/l is probably better.
Don't make a bishop unless you are willing to put forward the effort. If you're willing to make that HS mule into a bishop, that'll give you a nice headstart, but the beginning of 4th job as a bishop can be rough, with the genesis quest and genesis skillbook prices.

Bishops are rather good for training since everyone wants to party with a bishop and they have relatively easy training from 30 right till 120, only flaw is how expensive your main 4th job books are especially when you compare the cost of genesis to meteor and blizz

While it may seem expensive, it is actually a very good investment imo. A bishop is always in demand for boss runs so you can make that money back fairly quickly by getting splits. AM books may be cheaper, but it won't be as easy finding runs (especially ones that will be willing to give exp, let alone exp). I know some zak runs will take AMs but I don't know of any HT runs that will take AMs and consider them an attacker except for point runs. Even then, the run will never go without having a legit attacker party. I know some people take their friends for fun, but again they aren't really considered attackers so they aren't given splits (they may or may or not get exp depending on the part.

Good thing to factor in but considering that the mage would be created for the purposes of leeching a main in the future and not solely for being used as a main, the cost to benefit ratio may not work out well for a bishop, especially considering if he plans on making another character that could be used for bossing its self

You can still join runs as a bishop and possibly buy books for a discounted price for the main too, (ie minus your splits or party discount etc) so I still think it's worth it. You can do this without getting genesis as long as you have max resurrection. Just also wanted to put it out there that gen30 is not necessary to get if you aren't maining a bishop. My friend have gen10 until like, level 17x. It gives minimal magic gain while being expensive so you could just get gen20 + mw20 (the alt, which would probably have base int, would benefit from mw20 too) so it really isn't as big of an investment as you think. Plus int equips are gonna be usable by the bishop and the alt so I still think that a bishop is the best option if you want to think about mesos as well as leeching. Furthermore, he already has an HS mule, so he already has the advantage of being able to level that instead of having to start over.

I'm currently a bishop right now and I love it and hate it at the same time. Everyone wants leech from me and to party with me. BUTTTTT GEN 20 is so effin expensive! Also that's knowing you might save up 800-900m just to fail it and have to save up it again. It sucks ass. If I were to redo things I'd do hs mule/ FP Mage. But that's just me.
