So as I understand it, you can't teleport or door in ToT because you could just teleport or door someone who further than where they've completed ToT, nothing to prevent people from skipping maps. Basically this results in a tedious walk when you complete a quest or want to go soemwhere else and come back, and ultimately to less people grinding there or willing to grind there. For example, I'd like to grind there, but I wanna participate in the event and in that case I'd have to walk back like 20 maps after i do the event. As well, Bishops aren't super effective on the enemies in ToT making it less viable to leech, would be a nice place for grind parties to come together instead of all-nighter-no-lifer bishops selling 12 hours of leech monopolizing every channel. The only thing impeding this is the walk, I've skipped out on many a grind party just because I don't have time to make the trek, or it wouldn't be worth it if I can stay for 20-30 minutes. If its possible, I'd suggest to make it so when you press up on a portal in a ToT map going to the next map, you spawn standing on top of the portal to the next map. This way, people couldn't cheat and people who want to get all the way to OB4 could just hold the up key and get there almost instantly. Diagram: [(start)_______(1)]-[(Back to 1)________(2)]-[(back to 2)_____(3)] 1 spawns you on top of 2, 2 spawns you on top of 3, etc. (or like right next to it) I'd say this is pretty fair considering all other useless time sink modes of travel have been eliminated. And this already sort of happens in the between resting rooms.
From one point of view, you would say. V62 back then didn't have this. But on the other side... Doors did work in GMS for ToT if you completed that zone.. Or well, in EMS they did. I'm not sure about GMS. Anyway, I would support this idea if there would be a huge tax on travelling.
We've got so much stuff that isn't v.62. If we have ToT, it should work like it did. Even if there was a 1m cost to warp to a map, as oppose to walking id totally pay that.
Or just put a gaga npc in the fm No need to change ToT, no more missing of events for those who train far as heck away from towns
I have a hunch not having gaga in the fm was on purpose, cause that just creates a massive lag fest in ch1 fm, although the tree would fill more often that way I'd imagine. I just think the ToT thing is something that needs to get fixed, gaga aside.
Except you dont have to cc the ch 1 in order to take part in the event. The tree is shared acrossed all channels
It might be possible to have teleport rocks/door working in the new source so you can teleport in ToT without having the side effect of those not having done the pre quest being able to abuse it. The walk is very long but I would rather have these things fixed than adding some skip feature.
You are right in saying that Gaga was purposefully not placed in the FM. However not due to lag issues, but moreso in an attempt to move away from what I like to call "click, click, boom" events, and incorporate a bit more effort and strategising required to take part in things. I personally feel like it has worked out quite well for the current event, and it fills me with glee seeing a lot more people socialising in towns rather than purely in the FM, which can become very spammy. I do understand the concern regarding Temple of Time though, but cant't say that I'm very fond of your suggested solution. I'd much rather have a proper fix for Teleport rocks and Mystic door like Andreas mentioned above.
But if the door and tele rock thing hasn't been fixed yet I really doubt it ever will, its' been out for ages and never even heard of talk of fixing it. Was just trying to think of something that would be quick and easy for the time being. I know you guys are hard at work on the new source and other things, fixing this just doesn't seem very high on the priority list. I'd totally agree, but ToT has been out for how long? well over 2 years? and no motion to fix these things.
I just don't think it has been brought up by enough people for it to become a top priority, and probably at the time that it was brought up before, we had a lot more serious issues that needed to be looked into at a higher priority. This thread helps to raise awareness of the issue again for sure. I've thought about your solution and it would actually be more difficult to implement than the teleport rock and mystic door checks, this is because there are more portals in the map than you might think, for example when you change channel you spawn at an invisible portal on the map, nearest to where you were before you changed channel. However... I think I'll attempt looking into the proper fix in the near future.
You can just put portals to any of the zones (blue, green, red) in the first map and only players who completed quests could go to the next zones.
Obviously there are a plethora of solutions, I just think it would take a much needed load off of skeles if ToT was more accessible to players, not to mention more diverse drops coming into the economy
I couldn't agree more to this, for real. I've completed ToT throughout all of my characters and it's very annoying being on my warrior walking slow as hell getting hit to walk to Obv4, then if you want to just meet someone somewhere its done. I think the taxi/portal is a good idea, even let us add it on the Tele Rock Map, due to the fact that its only our account on that character than can teleport to those specific maps with that teleport rock, you know?
Yeah, I mean the way I understand it they probably just couldn't figure out a way to make it so you can only teleport to the maps you've unlocked, there's a million solutions just implementing it and making it work might be tough, I've no clue about that stuff.
I see Matt has already mentioned that this would be looked at in the future so just to show my support for this being implemented. I probably would train at Ob2 or Ob4 more often if it wasn't so far away. Sometimes I may only have a spare hour or less and I'm really not keen on wasting what little time I have travelling to those maps. Also, what's the chances of having a vendor placed at the ToT entrance? Currently having to go all the way back to Leafre to empty the bags is a huge turn off.
I'd like to start off with saying that I'm not against a change in the ToT 'spawn points'. However, I don't really understand why we should implement it? It contains some of the best maps for grinding and farming and personally I feel like the walk is part of the equation. If you only have an hour or so, you would like to grind and if you feel that it is inefficient to walk there, then you simply don't, you go to petris or some other map. For me, it's all part of the strategising, and in some sense, the cost benefit analysis of if the walk is worth the exp/drops. I do see reasoning for a vendor by three doors, mainly for npcing equips as you would still have to make the walk back, but I would disagree with placing powerful, commonly used potions like ginger ales on this npc. These are only sold in one location for a reason: it's part of strategising when you have time to repot, getting enough pots to last you, in a time efficient manner. I guess, in essence I'm against implementing too many timesinks. P.S. As someone who often walks to O4 to grind, I honestly do not think the walk is that bad, and any grinding partner I find, tends to only stay for an hour or 2(much like me), without any complaints of the walk being a major obstacle(nuisance maybe.)
I completely agree with what Stan says here! I used to be a big o4 grinder and I never really minded the walk at all. The vendor at Three Doors would definitely be nice, but I don't think it's necessary.
