In the RED update in GMS a system called Open Advancement was introduced making it possible for people to change class within their job branch (eg. Paladin>Dark Knight). You pay a fee and it changes your class, resets your skills, switches your AP if it applies(Corsair>Buccaneer) and gives you a basic weapon for your new class. Rules(Taken from GMS): Must be level 120+(In GMS it's lv100 because 4th Job Adv is 100 in GMS) Can only change once a day Can only change to a class within the same job branch ( Mages, Bowman, Thief, Warrior, Pirate) Mastery Book points will not carry over, even if it's a shared skill (eg. Maple Warrior) In GMS, the cost goes up the higher level you are. About 500m-1B for level 200 iirc? There's also a Job Advancement Coin that gives you a one-use change. The Job Advancement Coin could be added to the Cash Shop for something like 300k NX as a NX sink or given away in events too. The system also creates more higher level content. Possible FAQ: Q: Wouldn't this system make the game easier by deterring people from leveling up new characters? A: If someone already has a level 120+ character, I can guarantee you that the new character they make will be leveling up from buying leech anyway. Q: I don't want Mages to sell leech+HS one day as a Bishop then change back to an Arch-mage for bossing. A: That's why a steep price wall is necessary to prevent people from changing classes on a whim. It should be a big decision to make. Q: This system is an affront to the hard work I put in my level 200 Paladin! I find this offensive! A: Too bad. Q: Who are you? A: I'm no one. Thoughts? Discussion?
Arch mages aren't even good at bossing o.o This is overall an incredibly flawed system. Would HP transfer over? If so, then this would be ridiculously OP. There are classes in this game that are difficult to level throughout levels 1-120 then start to pick up due to bossing. This would completely ruin that aspect of the game. Someone could make a brawler and level up fairly quick, then switch to corsair once they hit 130. Same with shadower/NL. This may have been a decent system on GMS (obviously just a cash grab). But on royals it simply doesn't work.
The Arch-mage thing was just an example . As for the leveling hard classes thing; if someone has enough money to change classes then they definitely have enough money to buy leech anyway. I don't really know how the HP transfer works though. EDIT: I just looked into the HP transfer thing, they reset your HP based on your class I think. They also removed gaining extra MP with Int so that's a problem.
What happens to skill books that you have passed on a class, if you change and then want to return to the initial class?
I see where you're coming from, but at least the idea isn't as drastic as Potential, new bosses, new maps, etc.
I don't think it's a horrible idea. To me it's not something that would affect my experience or nostalgic feelings towards the server - there are things that servers can play around with to make the user experience better without bothering others, and this is one of them IMO. The only problem that I see with it is Buccaneer > Corsair. You have an objective bonus as you had increased HP since 2nd job. I don't know the solution to that, but I think it's reasonable otherwise. I think it should be ridiculously expensive though.
I think this 'FAQ' is really ridiculous, especially based on the answer. I also believe that the overall concept/idea should not be implemented. I am not necessarily for an update that MUST BE NOSTALGIC, but this just seems ridiculous.
I dont mean to be so blunt but I thought this was one of the dumbest decisions Nexon made ever. And they had a really long list of dumb and terrible decisions. This would completely ruin what Royals has going. Keep this stuff off Royals.
@koil2uy5w1: It's a meso sink because it would cost a lot of mesos and minimally affect other people's game experience. @Enticing: Just curious, but what is your reasoning?
WOW! I did not even know there was this function on maplestory at all (prob cos i quit pretty early before all the weird updates). It does sound pretty cool from one side, being able to have a taste of another job without starting from scratch. In addition, it IS a potential mesos sink. However, I gotta say this is very unlike the old maplestory that I've played before. Implementation of this feature will most definitely spoil the nostalgia that royals is offering, which is one of the main reasons why most ppl are playing on royals. And just based on this reason alone, I voted a no for this. I personally feel that new bosses and new maps will have a much lesser impact on the nostalgia, cos the spawn rates, exp, drops and drop rates can always be modified to suit royals. However, Open Advancement will cause a direct change in the gameplay and concept of maple. IMO its just as drastic as potential...
