Sure the sense of progression is great. But when end game is completely dictated by RNG, it's ridiculous. A person who has played the server for a week could make a 30 attack shoe. At the same time a person who has played for 3 years and spent hundreds of billions of meso on scrolling a shoe would most likely not have the same luck.

That's the nature of all scrolls though. Some people like to play risky (I ran 3 30%'s on a 98 atk ski knowing the risks involved, other 30%'s have failed for me in the past and I've busted expensive ass gear that was worth more than the rest of my inventory and mesos combined), and others would rather buy already scrolled items. Sure, people will get ridiculously lucky sometimes, but it is overall balanced. Someone will get a 5+ atk facestomper on the first scroll, and others will get them to 0 attack.

Do you think regular/dark scrolls are okay, or are they in the same problem as chaos? They feel the same to me, on a smaller scale.

There's a huge difference between the rng of chaos scrolls and regular scrolls. Imo (a lot of people share this opinion) end game shouldn't revolve around who's the luckiest. It should revolve around who has the most game knowledge (not really applicable to maple), and who spends the most time efficiently.

In the end maplestory is a game of luck and time. With enough time even the unluckiest person can get good things.

But that's the same with 10% + white scrolling perfect items as well. Someone can get a +7 ST after 7 white scrolls and 10% scrolls, and it'll take others over 100 scrolls.

Scrolls are just a gamble at the end of the day, if you don't want to gamble there's a huge portion of the server that does, so that's where you'd get your end game gear.

I haven't been around too long to share your idea of an ideal end-game for the server, nor am I against it, but an endgame based, very largely if not entirely, off of RNG is what almost every MMOPRG worth mentioning out there is like (at least off the top of my head, feel free to try). It's certainly an ideal, but the status quo isn't necessarily bad. We currently have 2 slots of eqs which are most affected by CS RNG, of which 1 has a fixed base stat so the only other variable (or 5..) is the CS RNG. Compared to some more well known MMOs that have enhancement mechanics from top to toe or 1-2 piece, class dependant raid boss drops with 1 week raid cooldowns, this really isn't too bad. RNG keeps people playing, that's a fact. Some people leave, but those who stay should then more so, be rewarded.

The one RPG based MMO that I can think of which has an absolute end game that rewards the most dedicated with gear that's very marginally better is Runescape with their Completionist or Trimmed Completionist cape. But other than the tiny amount of added stats from that cape, a bigger portion of the endgame is based off of boss drops that are also completely RNG based. RPG is basically RNG lol. Heck even Pokemon is quite RNG (fire blast>flamethrower).

Devaluation of once unobtainable gear is also fairly common, as more players acquire it. It happens with every introduction of new items in every other game, and also in real life when a certain resource is once scarce but no longer is once the demand draws more supply. If the servers were to be changed to meet with your ideals, endgame would either have to be set at Trimmed Completionist cape tediousness or it'll risk endgame being far too achievable and face everyone having endgame gear (something that caused once huge SydneyMS to fall iirc), which then even devalues end, endgame gear.

That's the point that I'm trying to get across. In most cases, the unluckiest person isn't going to get the kind of end game gear that the luckiest person is going to get. For the longest time Kevinjai had the best cape in the game by a huge margin. Yet there were people who had worked way harder and played way longer than him that didn't have gear anywhere close to what he had.
ws+10% isn't anywhere close to equivalent in terms of rng compared to chaos scrolls.
Example: If I get +5 on my first chaos scroll on a fs. I have literally the best possible facestomper you could possibly get on that slot. There is no facestomper that could ever be better on that slot. Then I use another chaos and get -5. What was once the best possible facestomper that could ever exist at that slot, is arguably not worth chaosing at all anymore. Now lets say I pass the first ws+10% I use on a perfect clean dragon shiner bow. That is the best possible bow at that slot. Then I fail the next slot. That bow is still just as good as it was before I failed that scroll. That bow didn't lose value. They aren't the same thing.

The entire chaos scroll system is flawed in my opinion. At this point it's way too late to change that. What I've been saying is that I don't support the addition of more ways to get chaos scrolls, and I definitely don't support the addition of miraculous chaos scrolls because that would make the issue, that is chaos scrolls, even bigger.

Wouldnt the fact that there are more chaos scrolls to use, increase the chances of everyone getting better equips? because at the moment, you're kind of at the whim on rng at the moment.
You have to get a lucky chaos scroll from gachapon, (which these days its like 1/140 tickets for me. :'( ) then hope the chaos scroll atleast works, and finally hope it increases the desired stats.

Maple Story like many MMO's work like this, but most of the time its because they want people to stay invested in the game for longer so that they can buy more cash shop items. Which in this case we dont really have a cash shop, so shouldnt we get rid of these stupidly high rng walls? Isnt adding more chaos scroll a step in the right direction to making things a little less rng?

I apologise about my formatting as well, I suck :)

I feel like this server will die when we see everyone walking around with 15 atk Fs/cape. At that point I feel like the nostalgia will be gone (doesn't matter to me, but does to a lot of other people). We are quickly getting to that point already. Adding more ways to chaos things is just going to speed up that process. That's why I'm personally against the idea of adding more ways to obtain chaos scrolls. I would also be completely against something that gives mages even more of an advantage over everyone else.

At the same time. I think if dojo was to be coded really well, and points were very balanced. I think dojo could be a really good opportunity for this server. I'm going to assume that bosspq will never be added. So why not make dojo kind of like bosspq. Idk if having chaos scrolls as one of the rewards for a hefty price is a good idea. But if it's balanced enough to the point where it won't flood the market with chaos scrolls. It might be able to work.

I absolutely love this idea! Sadly it makes this discussion come to an end with yet another "Wait for the new source" :/ And seeing as i wouldnt like to derail this topic.

I think more ideas that are good for all classes to obtain chaos scrolls should be implemented. (Even though boss pq's would mean the godly minority will ascend into nirvana because of how easy they'll find it to farm chaos scrolls which isnt really far from what happens these days)
