    Hi all,

Seeing that there are many Malaysian and Singaporean players here in the Royals community,
I would like to propose that we have another channel for 'Bahasa Melayu' or 'Malay' (whichever is preferred)

    The reasons behind this are:

    1. To embrace our Malaysian/ Singaporean culture, by providing a platform to speak/ flaunt our national language (ok Singapore has 4 national languages but wtv)
    2. To unite Malaysian and Singaporean players! :)
    3. To help translate for Malaysians/Singaporeans who do not have a good command of the English Language (yet)
    4. To encourage a further diversity of cultures! YAS

    Please do consider!

    Cheers guys!

People from every country on earth with its own national language could suggest this, and I don't exactly like the idea of segregating the community like this. I like the international feeling, and English is the default language of the server and the community anyway.

    Hi there,

I understand your sentiments :) but I don't think such an insignificant section of the forum (such as 'Other Languages')
is capable of segregating the community! After all, we are compelled to speak English on a daily basis as we grind/ party with others haha!

Think of it this way: we can use that platform to help those who aren't good at expressing themselves through the English Language. If anything, this would be a more accurate google translate.

I think having guilds/ alliances are even more capable of segregating people as compared to this mini platform :/ But you see, guilds and alliances are able to make some lone-rangers feel welcomed, and I believe this platform will be able to do the same.

TLDR No, I don't think this would segregate the community. This is mainly to make them feel welcomed and for translating purposes, and well maybe a little bit of culture appreciation, I suppose?

But I appreciate your feedback, nonetheless!

I am not a Malaysian but from my experience of living in Malaysia for 9 years, almost every malaysian/singaporean people were able to speak basic english (at least). Also unlike other languages, bahasa melayu is close to a mixed language(written in alphabets) rather than its very own which I suspect was created through existance of racial diversity in Malaysia (which is also what I loved about Malaysia). The idea of this post in my perspective is not only unrealistic but also lame in a way that you mentioned "To embrace our Malaysian/Singaporean culture" because their culture is all about diversity and its interractions, not segregating them.

    (Just sayin' :p)

I think its not a bad idea, but maybe just not necessary, esp for singaporeans/malaysians!

Being a singaporean myself, I know for a fact that almost every singaporean are fluent in english (cos thats our 1st language and our education is 'compulsory' according to law)! I have quite alot of malaysian friends and all of them are pretty alright with english language too!

But I do see quite alot of Taiwanese players struggling with english. So, it might not be a bad idea to have some guides in mandarin. Of cos this can always be applied to all the diff languages. But I've noticed that the staff have consistently been translating the impt announcements (which is really great :) ) So I think its not critically needed.

Regarding guides/etc in Mandarin, we currently have this Chinese subforum: 中文 as well as the site http://mapleroyals.net that is actually run by @Fergus (I don't know who else works with him) and is an AMAZING resource for those who speak Chinese.

Ohhh wow cool! I didnt know there was a chinese mapleroyals webpage! (That looks like ALOT of effort!!)

And I wasn't aware we had alr had subforums for other languages (ooops, my bad!)

Well, in this case I guess it wouldnt be too tricky to add another Malay subforum. iCross did have a point that there are also quite alot of malay players as well! Although I still feel its not critically needed cos most malays are really fluent with english, but I guess its still great to have it for their community.

I already see many TW players separating themselves from the rest of the community. I believe they have their own network of trading and socializing outside of Royals. Id rather they didnt as I feel they're very closed off from the rest of the server to begin with and that just furthers it, but thats just my opinion. The more you break apart from the community, the less we get a chance to be around each other, the less we appreciate who we have around us the less we learn about each other. Id rather be more inclusive than exclusive.

Well, thank you all for your wonderful feedback!!

Yeah, I guess I can relate to what you're saying here :( If everyone feels the same, I wouldn't mind having this idea NOT being implemented!
Thanks anyway for taking time to consider and taking this seriously :D

    Cheers guys! :)

I have sort of mixed feelings about this.

I have the same worry that adding the subforum may result in segregation. But that was because I did not realise there were alr other subforums for other languages. And those did not cause any segregation (at least not that Im aware of). So it seems thats adding another subforum for the Malay language wouldn't cause a negative impact on the community.

But then u have the example on the recent TW influx and segregation... Although I think we dont have such a large community of malay-speaking players to be able to segregate themselves and start their own community.
