Yet another Hero vs Paladin thread! I'm currently a level 30 warrior and I can't decide what class to pick. I don't like spears, so DrK is out. As far as I understand, Heroes are the bossing class, while Paladins are good at the grind. That's for late/endgame though. I don't really care too much about endgame, I just wanna look flashy and have fun while leveling. Just a bit of destress at the end of the day/week (whenever I can play) so which class (more like page vs fighter and white knight vs crusader than pally v hero tbh) is more fun early game? Also, I know the paladin is gimped endgame at v62 but will there be any improvements come the new source? Thanks!!
heres your first problem LOL I haven't played either but i see paladins as a hipster class like the f/p mage. In terms of leveling being fun, is killing mobs fast fun for you? or killing mobs in styllllllllle . Id personally make a hero because even if you dont care much about end game, which i personally didnt at first i just liked to level/grind because i think its fun, i ended up finding bossing fun and spontaneous when you meet the right group of people to do it with. And when you can make a game out of bossing it becomes fun ^_^ nothing more fun than competing with friends to see who can white xp each other.
New source not coming? I just read about it so I really don't know much. I left Public Maple before Pirates were a thing. I like killing things in style, fast is just a bonus. Where does that put me?
Its under development i wouldn't go making a character based on the new source though thats all im saying. It sounds like you would have more fun as a paladin honestly hero's are cool but i get the vibe you would like it better as a paladin.
Thanks! I'm leaning towards them tbh, but you're right. Community is great and I hear they dont like paladins in parties. I guess I'll wait for a few more replies while I farm up these dark marbles.
I wrote an essay in a thread asking a similar question on Paladins, and I'm going to try to keep it simple this time. To be honest, in my experience, I found this to be a bit of an overstatement. Yes, ACB can stun monsters and it can hit 6 at a time, but Brandish doesn't fare much worse in this category, as I found that most heroes can kill the mob of 6 at a similar speed since Brandish does more damage in general. Heroes can also boss to break up the monotony of Paladin's grinding life. ACB still is a very good mobbing skill for grinding and the aforementioned situation is mostly for late/end game parties at Road to Oblivion 4. Paladin plays the lifestyle of any Magician class (Grind to 200), but doesn't get most of the benefits such as selling leech, having party buffs, joining boss runs (This isn't impossible, it's just quite difficult), and killing most maps as quick as ultimates do. However, I think warriors are much more fun to play with compared to mages, so if you DO want to spend most of your game grinding, then Paladin is probably your best option. Also, you get loads of respect and will get various comments along the premise of "WOAH A PALADIN" . I've found that Paladin is much easier to play with breaks on other characters, such as making another character when you get bored of grinding. Although mine got out of hand and when I got bored around lv 150, I accidentally made a 162 Buccaneer. Unfortunately... Most of Paladin's amazing looking skill animations are broken on the screens of others. So while you see your character growing wings and expelling the powers of the elements on monsters with Advanced Charge Blow, everyone else sees you using a normal attack. If you infuse Blast with an element, people will see the default animation for Blast, rather than a blast of lightning, fire, holy, or ice. Heaven's Hammer still looks great though.
Thanks! Though I got impatient and picked Page, so I guess my course is set. I have a bowman as an alt to level as well, so I think I'll follow your lead on switching characters when I get bored.
Good Luck! Warriors are pretty self explanatory, the only advice you need is to bear through 3rd job. 3rd job will be pretty disappointing when you realize you get no attacking skills, most of which become obscure in 4th job.
