Shouldn't botting be considered in the same category as hacking?

By definition, you contradicted yourself in the places highlighted. You say botters should be banned, but then go onto mention a method of botting that you say isn't ban worthy. Sure, one way of botting is less convenient than the other, but the idea behind it stays the same. Botting allows people's characters to function without them being around.

And I don't think many would consider this a "miniscule" advantage. You can be away from your computer 75% of the time with very little downside.

Why do you not believe in second chances? Macro scripts are used everywhere, and it is literally impossible to determine if someone is using a macro script or holding down the key and tapping the movement keys every so often without even looking (yes it's possible in a lot of maps).

If you bot unsafely (afking overnight), chances are you will get caught and lose more than 7 days of work, and if you do it again, it's curtains. If you bot whilst being aware of what's going on, you'll not really gain anything except the ability to focus slightly more on what you're doing, ie. watching shows like a lot of people do whilst playing a mage class.

    Where's the issue?

I do see the logic in what illuminate says , if someone hacks his way to lvl 15x then u tell me if he deserve a 7 day ban or perm ban.

Are we for disallowing disabled people to play by not allowing third party program to help them move, like joystick software? because that's what's gonna happen..

Has this happened? In the same way that heavy vote abuse gets a perm ban off the bat, a person powerleveling to 15x via botting is likely to be perm banned off the bat too, because of the exceptional circumstances of the event.

But when it comes to vote abuse the gms will know how many times the abuser voted , when we're talking about botting u can never know if he powerleveled to lv 150 or just starting bottings at lvl 149.
So same way we can't know what people do when they account sharing we can't know how long the person is bottings.

EDIT: And I'm not talking about putting something on your keyboard obv , I really don't think people should be banend for this because it's not even botting, nexon itself made a system to block it so there's no need of banning.

My point was that it's very hard to get away with botting for a long period of time. Once you hit 120+ especially, there are only like 2 maps worth training/botting on, so it's likely that people will find you and become suspicious quite quickly.

If somebody really wants to bot while watching the computer screen, then it is impossible to detect and who really cares anyway.

But those who do not respond to a GM and/or after being warped out of map should be banned.

This thread is so long, and I'm not gonna read it all.

You can only define botting as "putting a force on your key, while not paying attention to what's happening on the screen".
If you're using any program that does this, it's considered 3rd party program. Also making you attack after 100 attacks requires 3rd party programs. These two cases are there for not botting, but "using a 3rd party program" which is perma ban.

For real botting, 7 days seems fair IMO. As we can not determine if the person was just holding a finger on the button, or dancing around on the room with a weight on the key.

Botting is cheating. Hacking is cheating. Cheating deserves a permaban.

I don't think someone should be banned for not responding to a GM. Some clerics who train at the map ghost ship 2 barely move AT ALL. You literally just stand in a platform spam heal and only need to move when you stop attacking. Since some clerics train this insanely boring way. Some people like to watch a movie or multi task while they only move once and awhile and spam heal (Which doesn't need pots because of MP eater). Therefore that person won't most likely respond to a GM. If a person is moving in the same exact coordination every time then yes it's botting and deserves a ban. For the putting the heavy item on things that's nearly impossible for most classes and maps I have no idea how some do that.
