First of all, I would like to say that I do appreciate for the staff's hard work to create the Halloween event. However, I do think there should be changes made to the rewards system.

Like Sila and a few others I've spoken to, I've been doing this quest about 3 times a day and I have yet to obtain the Alluring Nine-Tailed Fox chair on my main character. Instead, I have received an absurd amount of transformation pots (110 to be exact) and probably over 100+ gummies. I have came to the conclusion after turning in 40+ boxes on 4 different characters, the rate of getting the Alluring Nine-Tailed Fox chair or any other chair is significantly low, but the main problem lays with the fact the Alluring Nine-Tailed Foxone is untradeable, so it's not obtainable by any other means.

What I propose is to implement a system similar to the Easter event where you are able to obtain an untradeable chair after a certain number of boxes turned in, say 50. The new system wouldn't give an unfair advantage to other players because the Alluring Nine-Tailed Fox chair is untradeable and earning that one is best since it wouldn't affect the economy at all and is just for collection sake/memory. With ~16 days left of the event, there's still approximately 96 attempts for players to enter the Pumpkin Vault. I find this a reasonable implementation as it gives players a reward or a sense of accomplishment for turning in a certain number of boxes and encourages people to keep coming back even after getting transformation pots and the other deemed "junk".

I would appreciate some thoughts and feedback from other players about this new system.

Edit: Since there was such an uproar from the community. To make this clear, this thread was created after my own and also others' experiences on the low possibilities of obtaining the untradeable chair and the other chairs. Yes, I used the Halloween event as an example but this was also the case for the other events such as the last anniversary event as mentioned by other players.

If we looked at the Easter event where players were rewarded the untradeable chair after collecting 100 Golden Eggs for their hard work, why couldn't this event be revised with the same concept? The only difference would be instead of collecting 100 eggs, we're exchanging an X number of boxes. The revision of the current system won't harm the economy in any way and as stated before, will encourage and reward players for their hard work.

In my opinion it should stay random.
The only reason i want the chair is because not everyone has it.
If everyone had it, i wouldn't want it as much anymore.

But why is this any different from any other random untradeable event prizes, either in the present or especially as has occurred in the past?

I understand the sentiment because I was also upset that I wasn't able to get all of the untradeable anniversary chairs (I got three or four I Love MapleStory Chairs but I didn't get either of the other two, which were the ones that I really wanted), but the system is what it is.
To put it bluntly, you can't really complain (to the point of expecting change) every time you don't get what you want.

Speaking as a player not a staff member, the events have changed over time to help those with bad luck be able to obtain items. A while ago the old valentines ring, when the event was first released in 2014, the ring was RNG only. Then we made it something that could be obtained by turning in a certain amount of prizes. We did that again for the following events, and then Easter the chair was obtainable by hard work. That's kind of what this is about - it would be nice if untradeable things were something that could be earned by hard work, rather than just waiting on luck to be nice to you. It's an event, not an every day thing, and the events have been made before that people can earn the prizes.
(Personally I'm at 60 tries on 3 characters and have yet to get the chair myself. 180 tries total. To say I'm unmotivated to continue bothering in the event is a massive understatement)

Edit: Also I'd like for this to be applicable to *all* future events, not just this one. In Maplestory itself, the entire game, basically everything is able to be obtained with enough hard work and time. For you to have to miss out on something memorable for an event just because luck is not on your side royally sucks. If you dont get it by the end, that's it. There's no amount of hard work that can be done to get it again. You can stay up late all you want, wake up as early as you want. Attend all 6 spawnings of Pierre, but if you just don't have the luck to get it, that's it, you're SOL.

I've seen a lot of feedback toward the staggering amount of AFKers in the event map. What about changing up the reward system to favor more active participants?

We could have different types of pumpkin given out depending on how much damage the player deals to Pierre. The type of pumpkin then dictates the probability of getting a "quality" reward.

    For example:
Platinum Pumpkin: For the player that "whites". 75% chance of a quality reward.
Gold Pumpkin: For the top 10% players in damage dealt. 50% of a quality reward.
Silver Pumpkin: For 11%-40% players in damage dealt. 25% of a quality reward.
Bronze Pumpkin: For the rest, 10% chance of a quality reward.
[The percentages are just there to illustrate and of course can be further optimized.]

This addresses few of the main challenges and frustrations players face. For one, it gives you the option to tilt the odds in your favor through simple hard work. Sure, you can't quadruple client as effectively; but if your eyes are set on a good chair, you can focus your efforts on one Pierre at a time and give yourself the best odds.

Presumably, it also makes the event boss more competitive, which I think adds a fun element the event. A level 40 bandit with a fruit knife can white a level 200 with a perfect claymore and, in turn, position themselves for a better reward. For newer players, that could add an element of gratification or renewed enthusiasm in a server that's very 4th job, end-game oriented.

A main challenge with this suggestion would be the extra work invovled with coding. But I'm optimistic based on the fact that boss EXP (at Krexel, HT, etc.) is already somewhat proportional to the damage dealt. Surely there's a way to compartmentalize that into different rewards for event bosses?

Another challenge could be the lag caused by 75 people simultaneously attacking instead of the usual 25 attacking and 50 AFK. Although I speculate that won't be an issue in the New Source.

tl;dr make Pierre great again by stacking reward probabilities to favor those that attack more

That system doesn't work very well for two reasons: One, event bosses are set up so you only damage them with normal attacks, so that only rewards whoever gets started attacking first. And if you allowed skills to be used, it's a match of whoever can deal the most hits the quickest, so BM/Sair/NL. Does first come first serve or the ability to do more hits than other classes really deserve a better shot at prize?

Maybe a better idea would be to have a system where for a fixed amount of hits (let's say, every 10 hits) you get a token, and prizes (or RNG boxes) would cost a certain amount of tokens. For the most benefit, you'd want to fight a freshly spawned boss and attack the entire time, also discouraging mules; The only problem being that that idea would hurt players who lag severely.

Speaking as a player, I have been pretty unlucky with the RNG as well, but I disagree with this. I like that the chair is only obtainable through luck since we already have a very nice guaranteed prize. Even if we didn't, I would still like at least one random, untradeable prize as it would be more meaningful than if everyone else was able to get one. Yes it sucks when I am not able to get chairs I want (rip anniversary event), but I still strongly disagree with this idea.

Secondly, I don't want each event to be the same. Having a way to get guaranteed prizes for each one seems so stale and would make events get boring in my opinion. This reminds me of gaching in a sense. The reason why people like gaching so much is because of that rng factor. It feels nice when I get something really good, but not everyone is gonna be able to gach great items (although we all have a chance to). We just have to hope we are that lucky person who gaches that perfect weapon or equip or [insert desire here].

TLDR ; I don't want guaranteed prizes for each event and don't think we should get them either as it makes things boring to have the same format each time.

While i understand the "luck" on your side, when you only get to go online for an hour or so a day if you are lucky and all you get is gummies it is rather disheartening to want to continue on with the time allotted during my day. It is what it is at the end of the day, but getting something other than a worthless item every single time would be nice. Seeing as i have only been able to do it a handful of times, yet every single time its been completely useless items. And I am not even one of the AFKers so that makes it so much worse, I can't use multiple characters, i can't use multiple accounts for the quest so I only get that SINGLE chance every 4 hours (but more like once a day)...

But to reuse @xFishy 's words, the difference with rings that have been made guaranteed prizes (after certain requirements) is exactly that they give players a tangible advantage; it would be unfair if only a random selection of players were able to obtain the Zombie, Valentines, etc. rings because those items give a real permanent boost. I think it makes more sense to make advantageous prizes guaranteed, not the other way around.

And I'm sorry but to be very frank, I think it's immature that you're only bringing this matter up now that you aren't getting your way. You were here for the Valentines and anniversary events in which there were also random untradeable chair rewards, why was it not an issue back then? The system was the exact same.

Good feedback. But why is it objectively bad to reward players who attack first? If you helped kill Pierre from start to finish, shouldn't you have better odds of getting a quality reward than someone who lands 10 hits and AFKs the rest? Or if you arrive after the boss has spawned, you can still give yourself the best chances by attacking rest of the way.

In essence, my original suggestion was meant to diversify the event bossing strategy. The current strategy that seems to be very popular is to get into as many Pierre maps as possible, and land at least 10 attacks on each map. I feel this is a little bland or homogenous. With what I've proposed, you can choose between quality and quantity. Players have more control over what they get out of the event.

Definitely agree that skills should not be allowed. And on that thought, ranged characters would not get a natural advantage as their weapon attack speeds are typically Fast, which is outclassed by a fruit knife; not to mention that ranged attacks struggle with mobs.

This works as well. Instead of different types of tickets you would get a higher quantity of tickets. Both ideas would favor the most active participants, which is the main focus here.

No need to be rude. Feedback is feedback, whether or not you agree with it doesn't mean you need to be rude about it, "not getting your way" is different than bringing up a valid point. And to be fair, this is a point I've brought up in the past just not on the forums - and I'm sure others have as well. Each year we change something different about events to make it a little more fair for everyone who can only get on every few hours (change it to a standard spawn time rather than kill time), to those who can't handle the lag (reduce the amount of players per map), to those who may struggle to actively participate the entire time (allowing the number of hits to remain a low amount). We've changed it so the 'top prize' (in this case and previous cases, the ring, in Easter's case it was the untradeable chair) is no longer just a game of chance, but a guarantee once you put forth enough effort (in this case, 30 tries. Same went for Valentines day and Thanksgiving iirc). Feedback helps the staff team know what we should take into consideration and what players want. I would rather an untradeable chair be guaranteed than a 1 to all stat ring, any day. Some people want the ring. Each individual is different, but do not discount feedback as invalid just because it's "not getting your way anymore"

Just for the sake of it, here's some other things we've changed for events after feedback:
-- Box (in this case pumpkin) is automatically rewarded to your inventory upon the boss's death after participating (in this case 10 attacks, in previous cases it was based on the amount of damage you did/exp you received) rather than dropping on the ground.
-- Spawning of boss was implemented across all channels simultaneously, when previously it only spawned in Channel 1.
--- Along with this, a player cap was added in each channel to reduce lag and open it up to more players with computers who may not be able to handle it, such sa those on macs or lower end pc's.
-- Reward was made 100% obtainable by a kill counter instead of relying on RNG.
-- Skills were disabled in maps to prevent rushing the boss around, as wells as to reduce further lag.
-- A timer was added to how often you can turn in a present/box. In this case, the timer was added to how often you can enter the vault after killing your last pierre. This prevents people from afking inside of the map until the next spawn right after finishing it, capping the map early on.
--- Also, a timer was added to the Snowman map that kicked someone out like 20 seconds after the snowman died, again preventing afkers.

Among other things, but I need to run off to RL for a bit before I can pull up more feedback threads to think.
tl;dr we have made changes based off feedback for the same thing stated here, originally based off someone not getting what they want, for one reason or another. Whether it was not being able to get a box because only 100 dropped on the ground and people looted them all with inactive mules first, or people had bad luck and RNG was not on their side so the prize was made obtainable by hard work as well, etc.

That has less to do with the format of event but more to do with your conflicting schedule, there's nothing that can be done about it except on your end. People who have more time will naturally be able to participate in more pierres thus getting more chances at getting what they want.

I agree with Jeen, I like the way it is right now where everything is random, it makes things more interesting. You never know what you'll get from the boxes which is the fun part for me at least. If I get a nice chair, cool, if I don't, oh well. If you think about it this game as a whole is entirely rng based, from scrolling to farming items, this event is no different in that sense. Not to mention all the chairs aside from the alluring fox one is tradeable so if you don't get the ones you want by the end of the event you always have the option to buy them, which again if you think about it, farming mesos is no different than farming pierres. Plus there's only 1 untradeable chair this event and if everybody is able to get it then that kind of takes away the novelty of it.

I enjoy the rewards being random also.

How many times I've heard people talk about how they can't wait until X event because they want to get X item. They didn't get it last year so they have a reason to try again and take part in the event. Having items untradeable and random gives people a reason to keep playing. [:)]
