I personally don't own any Mac OS products so I've had to ask other Mac users about this, as to find out how this would affect them.
Surprisingly the players who I've spoken to do not seem to see as much harm in this change as some make it out to be here, which makes me wonder why some people make it sound like it's going to be the end of the world.

As far as I'm aware the majority of the Mac OS users already have parallels or some other virtual machine installed since they have killed bosses on their Mac, and thus not too much will change for them.
All Mac OS players will still be able to run at least 1 game client fine within a virtual machine, and depending on the strength of your machine you could maybe even run a 2nd and 3rd without too much if any problems.
Since nowadays the Windows client can be opened multiple times without having to open more virtual machines, I think Mac OS users will still be better off than Windows 8 users were prior to multiclient support, but that's just my personal opinion. I remember when I tried to triple client on my Windows 8 laptop, I had to run my regular client, a virtual machine with a 2nd client and a 2nd virtual machine for a 3rd client, and then have my mouse locked within the virtual machines unless I would use some control key combination which felt horribly inefficient. When today I asked Mac users about their virtual machine usage, they told me it isn't even remotely as bad as what I previously described was.

Though I understand that having to use a virtual machine is inconvenient compared to not having to use it, I don't believe it to be that big of an issue for the majority of the Mac OS players to quit over.
Additionally I'd also like to mention to those who were shocked by this announcement today, that we had already stated in early 2015 that we would not promise for a Mac OS client to be released with the New Source.
What we did mention at the time is that we are working on setting up a Mac client, which is still a work in progress and is hopefully released before the end of 2017. I know it sounds like a year is going to be a very long time to be without a proper Mac client, but I'm sure that the majority could get used within a week or so to having to use a virtual machine and can probably get themselves to continue playing until we have our custom client fully developed.
This does not mean I'm trying to justify our decision for this announcement, as we are still truly sorry we had to announce the temporary discontinuation of the Mac OS client support, but I am trying to bring some clarity to those who believe this to be an end of the world kind of announcement. We are working as hard as possible to find ways for Mac OS users to still be able to enjoy the game until we have a Mac client again, and we hope that these potential workarounds will help players to continue their journey on MapleRoyals.

Y'all should've made a Hackintosh out of a Thinkpad T420 and triple booted MacOS/Windows 7(cracked)/Manjaro GNU/Linux(NOT a meme) for just such an occasion. Congratulations, you played yourself.

Unfortunately I was only drawn to this game due to its Mac support. I was so excited when I found this server two days ago and was taken aback when I saw the news. Unfortunately, my mac has very little room due to school programs and will not be able to run bootcamp. In addition, virtual machines make my macbook run extremely hot for some reason, and I have to buy a new copy of windows so that also isn't a possibility. Farewell Royals, it was a nostalgic but awesome 2 days.

Though as I've stated before I do no own a Mac OS system, I do believe that all 3 of the issues you've mentioned are not Mac OS specific and can be solved with general computer / laptop knowledge.
If your laptop or computer has no space, you can either try to free up space by moving unnecessary items to the recycle bin or to the cloud.
If you don't like the sound of that, there's also the possibility for you to make a small investment in getting either a usb stick or external harddrive, since both of these would allow you a lot of extra space for little money and it only requires you to have a usb port (which most if not all Mac OS laptops / desktops have).

I believe that laptops in general get very hot based on how you position them, where surprisingly the average laptop still has a fan on the bottom side which is nearly always blocked if you place it down.
If that is not the case, the settings of your virtual machine can also help a lot, since you can select yourself how much space and ram you want to allocate for the vm to be allowed to use.

We've provided a link to a 90 days renewable free windows trial, where I'd like to place emphasis on renewable.
What we mean with renewable here is that you can repeat the process every 3 months and continue to use a free non pirated windows for as long as you need to.

With that said, if you're willing to try to stick through all of the inconvenience, I'm sure you and other Mac OS users can find a way to make the game playable until we have a fully operational Mac OS client available again.
And until we have this client available, we will try to support our Mac OS players in any way we possibly can.

I came to this server strictly for its mac support, but its still good that there is work being done for a future mac client.

On the 90 day renewable trial, there are different VMs to choose from:

This may be premature, but which version will work on the new client?

I would recommend any one that uses Windows 7 but I haven't played with it much myself

Do you know the process of how renewing will work? On the site it says

"Please note that these virtual machines expire after 90 days. We recommend setting a snapshot when you first install the virtual machine which you can roll back to later."

but I'm having trouble understanding that message.

And here I was, just starting to play again. Bother.

Good to hear you guys are working so hard on a solution, even if it will take a while.
    For now, farewell (again).

I have the same issue as @Ziren . My computer is primarily used for school so putting the work i've done on the cloud isn't something i'd like to do to be able to play a game.

Besides I play this game and server pretty casually, and I don't see how installing a huge program would be worth and neither do I think other casual gamers on this server do. Ty for your time Royals!

This makes me very sad because the problem for me when switching to bootcamp is that although royals runs fine on its not convenient if I want to do other things on my mac. I wont be able to access any of my files or applications on my mac side which was something I loved about royals. Now if i just want to log on quick I would need to stop everything I was previously doing to solely play. For me I wont be playing for a while at least until the Mac OS client becomes available.

low-key though I hope you guys will add something in for us returning Mac players once it becomes available like the Full SP Reset or whatever we might miss out on.

Is there anyone who actually is running parallels to confirm mapleroyals works well? I might as well get it so I can boss and keep playing. But I don't know whether to partition my macbook pro with bootcamp or get parallels. (I will just buy the windows 10)

I use a mac, and I've used Parallels so that I could boss (for about a year and a half now). I works pretty well; I haven't had compatibility issues and I don't even need to GFX at bosses when using it.

I can't say I'm extremely happy about the temporary loss of mac support since it's going to make playing the game a little more inconvenient; however, as someone who has used both Bootcamp and Parallels Desktop, I can say that they both really aren't very hard to set up, and (although I just torrented the Windows 7 iso file) the link given on this thread saves you the trouble of having to look for a copy of Windows.

This is partly why I switched from Bootcamp to Parallels - it's easy to have a show or homework up in the background while you run the application.

Gameplay isn't as smooth on the windows client in my opinion. I use a 15" macbook pro and gameplay is pretty smooth and convenient on the Mac client. I only ever open up parallels desktop to boss since the graphics are kinda bad and the controls seem weird in the sense that when I try to attack and jump, I have to click the attack button again to continue, whereas I wouldn't need to do that on the Mac client.

I use Parallels weekly and have tested Windows/Royals in VMWare Workstation and haven't had an issue with either.

I have run Windows 7, Windows 10, current source, and Open Beta on both platforms and have yet to come across any problems (though admittedly I don't play very often).

As an aside, another option for those lacking space due to small SSDs on your Mac, you may want to look into getting a USB (flash/jump) drive. You probably only need a 16GB one which is not very expensive to acquire anymore. Heck, I have about 10 just sitting around not being used.

You may want to look into your VM settings as the Mac client is literally the Windows client being run using the WINE emulator so the MAC client is actually an emulator of the Windows client.

When should mac users expect to have parallels and all of that figured out by? When is the new source going to be implemented? Like within the next couple months? Days?

Idk man. A lot of people are claiming that parallels is not that hard to use and that it doesn't change gameplay but actually there's a lot of minor settings that really do affect gameplay such as key delay and not being able to continuously hold down an attack (rip nightlords & bm) without having to lift your finger.
And maybe this is just my shitty '11 MacBook but parallels literally freezes my comp and makes it unuseable while it's booting up which takes between 2 and 5 minutes.

I've used parallels since late 2014 and I have to say that it did used to make bossing more convenient but it never did make regular gameplay easier. Personally I do not boss anymore bcause it seems that parallels makes my net a little shakier as well. I often disconnect from royals while on parallels when my Firefox browsing is working fine on my Mac desktop.
Idk what kind of suped up MacBook y'all running but this discontinuation of Mac support is about to gut the whole reason why I started maple royals near 3 years ago.

Although I am disappointed, I can't say that mapleroyals wasn't a great experience for me. I will admit that royals was actually 100x better than gms or any other private server that I've played (except maybe originms rip).
    Thanks for the memories buds
