I'm fairly new to this server and I'm considering buying leech once I reach third job and beyond. What steps should I take to prevent being scammed? Do I just record the whole hour of leech? Also, can GM's provide compensation for scams? I don't have a lot of money and losing out on 50~m would really hurt. I'd be greatful for any help you guys could give. Thanks!
But in the perspective of the leech seller, you would want payment at the start in case the buyer leaves after the hour is up.
Hi @LinDan (I'm a big fan of the actual Lin Dan btw), As a leecher that worked hard to level up my buyers, it hurts me to see the few bad apples who occasionally pop up in this server to scam. Here are some ways to make sure you have a pleasant leeching experience. Search the leech sellers' ign on the forum. If they scammed/given bad service before, chances are they have been reported by others. Although not always possible, ideally go with leechers who have received good reviews. Record evidence of contract and payment. When you are trading the leecher, ask in the trade window, for example: "1hr skele split leech 45m?", and make sure you get a positive response (e.g. "yes"). Take 2 screenshots: one immediately before you trade (with the 45m set up), one immediately after with the dialogue box confirming the trade. Record evidence of leech time. Immediately after your trade, type in ~servertime in the chat box, and take a screenshot. If you want to be extra cautious, ask the leecher to confirm, e.g. "Start time 8:35am servertime?" and get a confirmation. That's normally all you have to do to ensure you are getting the service you have paid for, dealing with good leechers. However, if the leecher disconnects: Give the benefit of the doubt to the leecher for a few minutes. This is an online game, players will d/c If the leecher doesn't return after 5-10min, take one or more screenshot with the party window open to show he's offline, e.g. 10min and 20min after he d/c. Again, the ~servertime command is your friend. (This is optional, do it at your discretion) I would generally give the courtesy of one day, asking the leecher to continue service or for a refund, in case something happened and the leecher really needed to leave for emergency. If the leecher denies or ignores you, take screenshots as evidence. Make a thread on the Report Abuse section of the forum using proper format. Be patient, if you have enough evidence (shown above in bold font), a gm will eventually get to your thread and refund what you are owed. Good luck and enjoy leeching Edit: to answer your question, yes you can record the entire hour of leech, but if you have the several easy screenshots I mentioned, it would be excessive. To address @Oldie 's comment, it is customary for the buyer to pay up front (maybe, just maybe there are a few leechers out there who will accept payment at the end?)
@CupOfJoe Thanks a lot, this is exactly what I was looking for! Just one last question. The method you described is useful if I'm at my laptop and checking back every once in awhile to see if the person selling leech is still there. If I wanted to be doing something else (away from my laptop) during the leech, is there any way I could prove that I wasn't getting the leech? Like screenshots of EXP before leech + servertime and screenshots of EXP after leech + servertime?
the only way to do that would probably be to record the whole hour, and see if there are any gaps where you arent gaining any EXP. i mean i guess you can screenshot at 10am, 50% and screenshot again at 10:10am and 51%, i think its fair to say most places you are leeching will get you FAR more than 1% in 10mins, to provide some evidence that they have not lived up to the contract
Best bet is to buy from a trusted seller. I can't think of anyway to prove that you aren't getting leech if you are away the entire time, except to record the entire hour. This method only gives the buyer weak evidence. If the agreement with the leecher is 1hr of leech, and the leecher kills 1 monster per minute, he's still technically honouring the contract and won't be penalized. On the other hand, you can negotiate a deal with the leecher that you are paying by exp (e.g. 10m/lv). You should be safe as long as you are keeping evidence of contract, payment, and starting %.
Thanks @CupOfJoe and @cbroogie for your suggestions, they were really helpful! I'm leaning more towards buying leech based on exp right now, it seems a lot more accurate and flexible time-wise, but if no one sells leech with that option, I guess I'll just watch some videos while leeching the normal way. Thanks again guys!
Glad I can help! Too many people don't ask the question until they are scammed :/ (just see the denied abuse reports due to lack of evidence)
Well what a letdown, your solution for that is sell leech at locations where you get decent mesos from selling equips, possibly a place for good exp, AND keep up to date with the community black list so you dont sell leech to scammers. It isn't that big of a deal for a bishop if they give leech and payment isnt received. If you're that paranoid, split up the hour into 3 parts, or 6 parts lmao. Pay every part or receive payment every part. I sell leech and do whatever the seller wants to do. If they pay front up great, if they want to pay after, no worries. If they don't pay? Oh well I was happy to assist, and I got some mesos anyways from drops, time to add this guy to the community blacklist. It's more fair if the person who receives the exp pays last because that person will have gained zero and lost ALL if they pay and the seller boots, where as the seller would've gained at least something if the person gaining exp booted. At least in my opinion.
