My first language is Spanish so I could actually benefit from this but this is not a good idea.
Please elaborate why do you think this is not a good idea or why is it a good idea.

Because they're languages other than english so majority of the people won't understand it? There will be more and more non-english smegas, they're not only incredibly annoying as you won't have a single idea what's being said in those, but people will pay even less attention to smegas in general, even those in english, which brutally murders the whole purpose of smega.

Why was this change made? How will GM know which non-english smegas are breaking rules? Just asking out of curiosity.

@Machiko brings up some good points as well as a big concern. How will GMs be able to tell what is being said in certain smegas? On paper it's great to see other languages being able to smega, but you can really see how it will affect the community imo. Royals is an English-based server so I saw no problem in rule 30

In my opinion I think it is not a wise choice to vocally speak in languages that others may not understand. Isn't the point of a Smega is to broadcast your message for the entire server to see? By dropping it to a certain language you only will have a specific audience to cater to, (unless that's what you intended, but i cannot really see the point of it in general usage. If others do not understand what you typed, how would they reply to you, or even respond to your enquiry?)

You could benefit, but not others. As mentioned by the poster above me, whatever you mega-ed can be witnessed by majority who are online, and let's say you mega-ed something which is against the rule (e.g. RWT, curse, etc), how would the GMs who are online be able to understand your message (assuming they don't speak Spanish)? However, you still can speak in Spanish, but do it within your circle (map you're in, your BL, guild, wherever that your message does not broadcast to the entire world).

If Taiwanese players can abide by this rule, why can't you?

LOL, why not dude? U can't go around the world thinking of everyone speak english. As latin I HAD TO learn english. Actually, i keep improving my english playing maple, reading this forum, watching tv, listening music and as person I know that I can still learning cuz I WANT. If you play a game where there are people from different parts of world, different cultures why you don't want to learn about them. People need to be more tolerant and friendly dude, feel free in a game isn't a jail dude. People wanna controlate all: the language, the market, the gameplay...

PD: Is 2017, come on. Read more, know more.

It isn't about tolerance, though. The original rule isn't about forbidding you to speak with your friends in your own language you are and should be free to do that! It's about broadcasting messages that all players see in language they can/should know, as this is an English speaking game. It's about thinking about other people and being thoughtful of them, knowing they will be seeing your message as well.

Well, I'm peruvian and ofc I speak spanish, but I never felt the need of smega in spanish, unless when I was recruiting for my own guild, but I can see people celebrating this at first with mass smega in different languages, hope they calm down later on, or maybe I'm mistaken and that won't happen xD

This is my biggest concern with this rule change. Keep the rule and actually enforce it. Make the punishment a 1 day ban, or mute you from using smega's for 24h or something. It makes it a lot harder to catch players who use smega's to try and RWT or Curse and do it in a language many dont understand.

I agree with Charlie here: the vast majority of smegas I see now that aren't related to buying/selling items/services are generally spam, and while allowing people to smega whatever they want gives more freedom, it will just add to the constant smega spam. However, I don't think it'll be a major issue, and this might help the Asian and other non-English speaking communities which generally have a harder time communicating in English. Now keep in mind we haven't been able to see the effects of this change since the server hasn't been functional yet.

If you look at this holistically, if someone smegas for help or whatnot in another language, it is no different than the constant smegas you see now like "I <3 so and so" as they mean nothing to you except the fact that it takes up a line on your chatbox. For the person smegaing, they might not be fluent in English, and a smega in a language that they are proficient/fluent in would help them much more than a something like "help.. gm pls"

I don't believe that this rule change will drastically change the game to the point that you will feel like you're playing a foreign game, and what is a nuisance to some can be a blessing for others.

To me, Im totally down with @Machiko. Many may take advantage of this rule change to smega the things we dont actually know what it means (RMT, swear, racist or something *NEGATIVE like that). Im looking forward to seeing your efforts on building a nice ToS.. but not this one :/
I have no idea why rule30 should be removed

Ps: transmitting non english smega maybe absolutely awesome in the upcoming Lunar New Year occasion (like transmitting good thoughts or wishes..). xD
    Sincerely.

We believe that, in removing this rule, our server will feel more welcoming and accessible to the constantly growing number of players from around the world. While we will always be an English speaking server, the availability to use megaphones in your own language will allow members of the community who speak other languages to more easily find one another and help one another in-game.

We do understand the concern that players may take this as an opportunity to speak negatively in other languages; for that, we look to the players for help in situations where we have no available staff member to identify these problems. In fact, this even occurs in English when there are no available members of staff to police super megaphones - when players advertise or do bad things, we hear about it even if we may not have been there at that particular moment.

This change is to help people who speak other languages, and our hope is that any rule breaking will be reported by those people in return.

For a server so based on being a tight community wouldn't this be a step backwards in keeping it that way? I know many people are already "keeping to themselves" by using groups on skype/qq/etc. and sectioning themselves from the dominant english speaking community, but in the year+ that i have played i have not met a single TW/brazilian/sg/malay/etc. that has not been able to speak their home language and decent/interperatable english. I know this would allow them to have a global presence for other people of the same nationality to read what they are typing, but it is a lot harder for an english player to find a certain thing they are looking for when it is written in another language as well. It's a lot easier for the majority of foreigners to understand the easy royals terms like S>leech/ J>pq J>HT/zak etc(im not sure if they would still use these basic terms), but when another language is put into it, isn't that sectioning off a LARGER population of the server from ever being able to join these people searching for groups?

edit: Im not saying im against this rule being taken out just in my experience, everyone that is foreign that i have played with was able to speak decent english i have yet to have partied with a person that couldn't speak/understand the royals slang/terms that are the most popular. But once everyone is free to type what they want globally i was wondering if it will change the way people search for parties/leech/items/etc. because they will be able to speak their own language which i'm assuming is easier for them to type in.

Not because the whole server can see a smega means everyone have to understand it, sometimes people just looking for a person in specific or specific help and theres when the no more rule 30 works fine, and that applies for english too, when someone ask for some help like getting gene with htpq and most people ignore it, but theres always a few who are glad to help.

It's a good point that you're raising, and I know what you mean - most players who are foreign do speak English well enough as a second language, though I have come across players who simply don't speak serviceable English, but (and don't take offense to this!) I probably meet quite a few more people than you do in my capacity as a member of staff. ~f17

I think that my point is slightly being lost, though. As you say, most foreign players speak English well enough to understand English smegas, but we English-only players won't understand their languages enough to know what they're saying. However, as a foreign player, if you're seeking help with just about anything, it is my assumption that you want someone you can easily communicate with rather than someone you can't. If you can't get that, these players still have the option to seek help in English, and moreover, as you say, things like S>leech, J>boss are pretty common and universal and likely will still be in even foreign smegas for English speakers to understand if these foreign players are open to having English speakers around.

I don't truly think that allowing people to smega in their own specific languages will segregate the community so much as it might allow people to better enjoy the games with their own communities. I can understand why one might think that the negatives outweigh the positives on this one, but we as staff have generally decided that we don't think so, and want to see what it will be like to exist without this rule for at least a little while. If there are obvious negatives in practice, we'll consider re-adding the rule.
