still hoping that one day, that the community resorts to hangingout at maya's house in henesys for the nostalgic daily parties/hangouts at maya's crib back in gms haha or by the taxi. favourite pass time in gms
Which can relate to a whole different issue. Smega spam which you can't escape unless you toggle it off, then you miss out on legit Smegas. FMCH1 really isn't that bad. Let the people get their hustle on.
Like everyone else said, it's called the free MARKET for a reason. It is, above all else, a marketplace for the buying and selling of goods. Yeah, one button will take you to the FM. Guess what: two more will take you to a different channel. If you want to socialize with friends, you shouldn't be able to commandeer and repurpose a map to fit your desires, when others are searching to use it for its designed function. This just seems like a bunch of people being cranky.
So wait for the spam to end, it always does in a few minutes, then start up. And there's a reason this is being brought up, because it's getting worse. There have been times when I was in the FM this past week and one or two people are spamming S>Stuff @@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@!!!! Over and over and over as if the world were about to end. Everyone saw it the first, second, third time, no need to spam endlessly. Saying it every now and then is much more efficient. The reason you needed @@@@@ and spam in GMS was to get your message seen. This is not a problem here, so there's no reason to spam.
My own personal opinion is that I don't think this kind of spamming in the FM is necessary at the moment (although I do think as we continue to grow, it will end up that way). I would also prefer to mute rather than ban persistent spammers, as spamming in the FM has always been acceptable in GMS, and I feel a ban is rather harsh. But most of all, I feel that player feedback is important here. The community is one of the things that makes Maple Royals a great place to be, and FM Channel 1 is an important community hub.
David you've been here long enough to know that the FM has never really been used as a place to buy and sell goods. It's always been a social gathering place. So saying it's being re-purposed is fundamentally flawed since the original use in this server was for social gathering. And I'm not saying people shouldn't be able to sell and buy goods there, I'm saying they shouldn't spam needlessly. Part of the reason the community here is so great is because you can go to the fm and chat with someone. You can put a (pixelated) face to a name you may have seen before, get to know them and maybe even make a new friend. If the social aspect of the FM goes away this added sense of community will go with it.
Voted no. Ofcourse The Fm is for Selling stuff but like Robb pointed out there is no need to spamm. There are like 5 people max selling stuff so why the hell would u. Why use the @@@@@@@ I always used the @@@@ to make ure post higher so it would always be visable abve the other spammers. Even when we continue to grow and reach 500 people there wouldnt be a need to spamm since there is enough room for everyone to sell stuf. People misread the poll i think. Its not about being able to sell stuff in FM but about needless spamming.
Spam is part of the nostalgia feel. Yes it can be "unnecessary and annoying", and we did acknowledge it in the T&C. But why are we even arguing these points over and over again? This argument is just like current ones in the real world, the same points iterated over and over again. No one will ever come to a consensus on the issue. Perhaps we can create a command such as "~togglesmega" that mutes the FM chat on your screen, or implement the chatbox from a later version with tabs. For all intents and purposes, I vote indifferent on this subject as there are no new points to be used to dispute this.
I believe free market is for selling, buying and trading. When me and my boyfriend first started on here and we didnt have enough nx to buy a shop yet we went to fm to sell our things. Now we didnt spam one after another and make it annoying we simply typed it, waited till it got pushed up a couple and did it again, in a reasonable way and we did sell quite a few things. My problem with the crazy spamming wasent because people like to sit and chat in fm, honestly you guys can sit and chat somewhere else, my problem was that a spammer would come in and push what i was selling all the way off the chat box in a matter of seconds and i didnt want to spam like that so it made it abit harder for people to see my message and for me to sell my things. So i think that a little spamming is ok but if someone puts 20x the same message in a matter of seconds i feel like that shouldent be allowed, its just being curtious to everyone else who is trying to sell things too.
This may be completely implausible, and more trouble than it is worth as it would require modifications to the client rather than just server. But would it be possible to have an additional chat, that can optionally be muted? Something like the "business" chat? Then those who just want to use the FM to socialise can switch it off. And those of us who actually don't mind can leave it on.
Definitely shouldn't be allowed, imho...there's no need for it. Even when Royals is at prime time, there's still not enough conversation going on in FM chn 1 entrance to justify sending advertisements more often than say every 3-5 minutes.
This just seems highly unnecessary. Why not just get up and move somewhere else? Perhaps an FM room? Channel 2 FM? Bring back Mia's House? Start a new trend altogether? There's plenty of alternatives to go to, just like there are alternatives for maps like GS2 but players choose not to go to those maps. By CHOOSING to stay in the FM, you're voluntarily choosing to see that spam. Although Royals' FM has not reached a point anywhere near comparable to that of gMS' FM Channel 1, the FM is the only hub for buying/selling/trading/etc. At the same time, it should more or less be common sense to realize when you've made your point to a sea of AFKed players or those who just aren't interested. A better approach i.e: Whether or not players should be banned for something like this is completely up to the GMs. Personally, I find it a bit unnecessary unless someone is intentionally continuously spamming even after kindly being asked to stop by another player. TL ; DR Go somewhere else (those who use the FM as a hangout); plethora of alternatives
The people here who voted Yes are mostly people who don't play as much anymore so they don't really experience the situation of spam here themselves, or are mostly voting against it because they are simply lumping it with other "harsh bans" as part of the "harsh clamping down" that they think this server's admins tend to do. I think it's better if you view it independently of the other offences and consider carefully, to yourself, how you'll feel genuinely if faced with these spammers every single day. Please put yourselves in our shoes. Also, some of you who keep suggesting to go somewhere else to socialize don't seem to realize that FM is also the only point where people can initiate socializations. There's no other instant map where you can meet a large number of total strangers to hangout with, apart from FM1. You're not going to find a random group of would-be friends in Maya's house. And for those who keep arguing that the FM is for peddling goods, no one here is suggesting that it isn't. People are just asking for it to be peddled in a reasonable manner. @@@@@@ is just plain annoying and unnecessary. Is having some etiquette too much to ask for? I think a compromise here could be made. There can be a guideline being made to advise players on this issue, such as requiring players to exercise patience and explain nicely to the spammer before reporting these cases. Punishment wise, 1st Offence - Gentle Reminder, 2nd Offence - Warning, 3rd Offence - Short mute, should suffice.
If people are annoyed then can't they hang out in channel 2 FM or an empty FM room? The Free Market entrance has always been meant for trading, however, I do agree that it's worthless spamming FMCC1 with the same people in the map, over and over again.
I vote no. I go to the free market to hang out with people. I don't mind if people walk around occasionally saying S> this or B> that. There really is no reason to contentiously spam B> AP RESETS @@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@.(See, even gets annoying in the post) It gets irritating extremely quickly and as the trade button quickly teleports you to the FM, it is the best place to find others. If another command, say ~maya, were to be created, that would allow people to go to Maya's House and hang out rather than the FM. If this is the case, then I am fine with spamming in the FM. But until then, my vote is no.
I think people are undervaluing this point right here. I already have an alternative place I go to in order to chat with friends. But I like going to channel 1 FM to talk with total strangers. One of the main driving forces keeping people in this server is the community, and if you take away the main communal hub then what? It would fragment people more and more into specific friend groups, making it harder for people to reach out to other groups, make new friends, and feel that sense of community. Sometimes I love going to the FM and chatting with a total stranger. I don't want to see that dwindle, I want the community to be tight knit despite it's size.
It's the Free Market. It's made for selling and buying things. It just so happens to also be the hub where everyone meets, chats, etc (much like Henesys is in GMS). But let's not forget what it's meant for. I'm not in favored of B> THIS ITEM @@@@@@@@@@@!@!@@@@@@@@ But if I see someone saying B> THIS ITEM, I see no problem with it.
Like I said, no one is saying people cannot peddle their goods here. If we take the time to dissect the message of the spammers, no one here has a problem with the B> or S> part. It's just the @@@@ and the relentless repetition that we cannot stand. I hope people can understand that just because it has a B> or S> part, it shouldn't absolve the person of spamming. If the message has meaningful content, but is spammed over and over again unnecessarily, it doesn't mean it no longer qualifies as spam. It is still just as unacceptable, regardless of the content of the message.
