With the new source update, party exp got changed to give less exp to the player killing a monster. I believe this change is gonna have a significant negative impact on the game for a few reasons. 1. The new party exp formulas is gonna slow down end game leveling greatly. Most, if not all leveling past 120-135 happens via bossing. Bosses are pretty much always done in parties, even the ones who choose to solo bosses party up with a leecher and a character with HS to get what used to be 20% more exp than one would get with no party. With the new formula, players can no longer get the same amount of exp from bossing or party grinding, resulting in slower leveling for pretty much everyone. This change wont affect players leveling solo, but that was a relatively bad and slow strategy that few people used. 2. Mages, especially arch mages, get most, if not all their exp from grinding in parties. When leeching myself at newts recently, i've been getting 10k exp per kill, which is quite little compared to the 14k i would've gotten with the old source party exp. It might not seem like the biggest issue at first, but its quite noticeable when you need to spend an extra 100 hours getting your mage to 200. It straight up cuts down mages main exp income greatly, and is gonna make leveling them quite a bit more difficult and less rewarding. With the removal of ~bosshp, bishops are gonna earn a lot more exp from bossing than previously, so it wont affect the bossing bishops as much, but for the remaining bishops who don't boss and mages, its gonna be quite a negative change. As many know, arch mages and bishops have significantly lower single target damage than any other class, trading their single target damage for grinding power. This change is gonna cut down their strength quite a bit with no compensation. Mages are most often not wanted at bosses either (except bishops for their utility HS) so leveling from bossing isn't an option either. I personally had a lot of fun leveling my arch mage, but this change completely demotivates me from playing mages and pushes me away from my play style into the more generic attacker bossing play style. 3. This change is unfair towards new players. With leveling overall being slower, getting high/max level is gonna be quite a bit harder. Many players (myself included) have already reached 200, and for everyone else its gonna require significantly more time and effort to achieve the same, which is gonna make the game feel less rewarding, more demotivating and overall slower. So i suggest reverting the party exp formula back to how it was in the old source, so the game will stay the same difficulty and pace in regards to levels. I'm not sure if this change was implemented because it is gms like or for any other reason, but i see it as an overall negative change with little to no positives.
Totally Agreed.. After Patiently Waiting For the Server To be Fix and Now this Happen.. Please GMs Do Revert IT Back.. Do it For the Sake Of Loyal Royalers who have been waiting, anticipating, not even Whining Bout the Time Frame of Fixing the Server For The NEW SOURCE.. Cheers Buddy
I am hoping it is just a bugged and not a new feature. I rather solo than to party now because of the nerf in party exp.
This exactly... Please if your going to have a server running for over 3 years dont change the leveling mechanics in either direction... This is something that should never be tampered with. I can understand the change from 4x -> 3.2x as long as the ratio from kills/leveling is unchanged; as it had been mentioned that the overall exp required for leveling was reduced. Although now with the party exp changing so that you get less exp for being with other people, everything seems to be simply not worth the time. When I fought Krex or Zak I ONLY duoed or soloed, any more people would make the time spent not worth it for me. Now that the exp is even worse it makes it harder for me to even think about visiting these bosses.
This is a bug. The bug report for this issue can be seen here: https://royals.ms/forum/threads/party-exp-incorrect.87606/, there's also another thread incorrectly named here: https://royals.ms/forum/threads/hs-still-not-working.88111/, which relates to the same issue but includes a lot more information. We are looking into the best way to adjust the current calculation to match how things were in the old source, rather than copy/pasting the mess that old source used. I hope that clears things up - although I presumed most figured it was a bug since the bug report has not been closed.
Glad to hear this. There might be some misunderstanding due to the #16 source update here: https://royals.ms/forum/threads/new-source-update-16-21-02-17.88941/, which speaks about fixing of exp in party under misc fixes.
Oh, I can see how that may have been a bit confusing. That issue was an entirely different one solely relating to monsters with high HP and EXP causing an integer overflow in a different part of the EXP distribution code.
SOO IS THE PARTY DISTRIBUTION FIXED ?? i remember during the old source with hs WITH 2 PERSON.. old source = killing a mob will get u higher exp than a normal mob would give but now.. with new source new source = killing a mob will get u lesser exp than a normal mob would give please correct me if i m wrong...
Thanks for the update, Matt. May I ask what's the estimated timeframe in which this bug will be fixed?
Thats exactly what was getting me. Thank you for the response above, much appreciated for clearing it up.
Details help more than just "still doesn't work". https://royals.ms/forum/threads/party-exp-incorrect.87606/ Has it listed there.
The person that does the most damage gets the same amount of exp as they would if they did 100% of the damage while the other person gets the amount you'd get for just leeching
