Taken from this thread: https://royals.ms/forum/threads/maple-messenger-player-minimap-dots.87506/#post-461339 This new feature presents new problems: 1] Inability to see other people's all-chat if you're not in their vicinity. 2] When objects/characters spawn in your map there is a lag spike that slows the client down. It's not a long spike but still isn't necessary to have, and can be annoying when running into multiple highly populated maps in a short timespan. 3] When it comes to mapownership and preventing more report abuse threads in the future, there is an issue where in larger maps the mapowner would be oblivious to characters which are not within their vicinity. It also comes with this benefit: The fact that it's easy to manipulate/abuse this to harass others makes it seem like a bad idea, even though it has been introduced with the best intentions.
If they are ksing you and you can't take a screenshot of them doing it in action, just use ~servertime, ~mapowner, and ask them to leave the map. Failure to comply with your request is a bannable offense, if I am not mistaken.
I'd like to add that one of the side effects of this change is that you can't see what other players are typing if they don't appear on your mini map. I was at Henesys earlier and was near the middle of the map but couldn't see any chat activity that was happening on the left side of the town. I haven't tested this in other maps like fm but I assume it's the same. Not sure if this is intentional or a bug but if it is intentional then that sucks.
This is intentional and how it was done in GMS. I remember when Henesys was like a secondary FM with people selling things on the far left side of the map by HHG, you wouldn't see all the spammy messages being sent when you were on the far right side of the map near the portal heading toward Ellinia.
^ That I do remember too, and that if you walked up to the top most platform of the FM you wouldn't see the spam at the bottom.
That's interesting but I'm not sure how I feel about this yet. On 1 hand this is an oddly effective way to cut down spammers but on the other like op said, it could be manipulated. Not in the sense that people will take advantage of this and find loopholes in looting or ksing other people's maps but in general it's gonna be a tad bit more difficult to monitor your map which could open up for unwanted guests. The bigger problem with this is that it unintentionally inconveniences players by making it annoying to have a conversation or track each other on larger maps for seemingly no good reason but it's not that big of a deal I suppose.
I do agree that it may not seem like a huge priority now - since as functionality progresses we will see how players deal with it. Screenshot proof of the offense is needed for a valid report. Tracing people is harder with this new feature, so gathering evidence may be a bit more of a hassle. This is a good point, my example is only one of many possibilities. The limited chat zone will also cause boss runs/party quest members to speak in party chat only now, not to mention the inability to see their location on that boss/pq map... which does seem annoying.
For sure, this is something to wait and see before too much is said one way or the other but it seemed to work well in GMS, and in addition, allows better performance for the server and client by doing it this way as well. If you are "tracing" people for a KSing report, they should be within range of you, otherwise they aren't really KSing you then. And yes, you will have to use party chat. I don't see what the problem with that is.
Are there plans to fully load maps you're in, or will the current method where only the local portion of the map you're in is loaded stay? It might solve lag issues, but it's pretty dumb that you can't use all chat with others in the map that aren't near you. You can't even see who's on the top row in the FM Entrance when you're at the bottom. A map like Deep Sea Gorge is rendered useless with this map loading because mobs outside your loaded zone will not lock onto you.
@Kai Kevin did say that the range is possible to expand, at least. I'd be all for expanding it, it's far too small currently. You can't even see your party members at ToT.
Would be neat if it could be dynamically disabled for smaller/less-crowded maps based on what is creating server load. I do like this "feature," but it certainly can be annoying.
Yesterday I was zaking and Valorous used echo inside the altar. We were on the other side of the map and didn't get it on our attackers. Seems the feature now makes it so that echo doesn't buff everybody on the map like it used to, but only those visible on the mini-map. Think it's safe to say that despite the pros of better performance, the cons of the new spawning feature still outweigh them.
