New to this private server and have been loving it so far. This ban seems a little random though...

We're pretty lax about a lot of language (We're PG13), but racial slurs is something we don't tolerate.

It can't be hatespeech if it isn't targetting a group of people. If I used the word it was probably referring to myself. You people seem to not understand context at all, which is fine. I'll just wait out my ban. Hopefully your gms can educate themselves for future cases.
Also, chat filters are a thing and are pretty simple to implement...

 

Just noticed you closed my other thread and stated that my ban wasn't due to petty lowlifes reporting for anything, when it in fact was just that. Nobody was targeted, nobody was offended. Someone reported me just due to the sheer fact that I said a "naughty" word. It's the exact definition of a petty lowlife ban. I understand now, I didn't before, that this is a PG13 environment and will not use the "slur" in all chat in the future, But it seems pretty outrageous to give a multi-day ban over an offense so unclear.

 

We have screenshot evidence that you did say it, and we get the context, we just disagree with it's use. If you feel the burning need to use such words, you won't be banned for doing so in friend/guild chat, as people choose who they are friends with and who they are in a guild with (It's analogous to texting your friend vs saying it out-loud in the cafeteria at school.) All chat and smegas, everyone is exposed to. It doesn't need to be directed at someone for someone to take offense to it.. there's a time and place for it, and in all chat at LPQ is not the place.

Also, it's not a matter of education. You say you're black and your profile flag says you live in the US. Are you not aware of the slave trade and decades of slavery experienced in the US? The war partially fought over slavery? The basically legal slavery via debt during reconstruction after? The Civil rights movement that Dr. Marin Luther King, Medgar Evers, and countless others died during, to ensure equal rights for all, which even today is being tested as the KKK had a very vocal, and visible protest in the last day or so (with lit torches), and a president who has not only been endorsed by leaders of the KKK (to which he hasn't even lied and denied), but he also has a cabinet with people who have on record been vocal against rights for black people, and that's all completely forgetting the fact that for the first time in history the NAACP has announced a warning to avoid traveling to an individual state because of legislation that would make charging people who are black much easier and with less evidence? Not to toot my own horn, but I am very well educated on the matter of race and it's impact on the united states. I understand it might be cool to say among friends, but I still scratch my head and wonder how reclaiming a word that has such harsh ties to hatred and dehumanization could be ironic and funny, how that it could possibly be cool.

Also, for what it's worth, it's very explicitly stated in the ToS that using slurs results in a ban, it's a "naughty" word, no matter how you slice it, and whether or not you knew does not matter, as you accept to abide by the ToS before playing. Just because you don't think the word is offensive, does not mean other people feel the same way.

 

Oh boy you're a liberal who thinks they're educated. Here we go. I'm aware of the slave trade, oh wait and it ended 150 years ago and has nothing to do with what we're discussing. The civil war was mainly fought over a disparity in the contribution to the economy by the slave states vs the free states, but that has nothing to do with what we've been discussing. I admit, yes, slavery had something to do with the war. But what does that have to do with our discussion. The civil rights movement was a very important part of American History. But I jest again in bringing it up as it has absolutely nothing to do with the ban/bans we're discussing. Well now that I've discovered that this is no longer about my ban and instead about how "very well educated you are" in social politics, as an African American male I can honestly say that I haven't had any less of a struggle getting anywhere in life than any of my Caucasian friends. Actually, technically speaking I have numerous advantages (For example, college selection). continuing, The KKK is a joke, they barely have a following. As for the NAACP, it is much alike BLM in that they don't really care about equality, but seek a sort of endless reparation for what has happened in the past. How about we actually seek equality. Trump is a character, but he hasn't done anything any different than any other President. The liberal party is one of hate, violence, discrimination, and abuse. They love nothing more than having their insides tickled by slandering someones name. Going back to my ban, all you have to do is say it was Objectionable Behavior and not Hate Speech. As my language fits into your terms but was clearly not hate speech. I'd also like to see the screenshot.

Edit: You asked how using the N word has become such an accepted part of society. In short, many African Americans growing up in ghettos accepted the term as a synonym for brother or friend as a personal endearment. Think of it like a nickname you'd give your best friend in gym class.

 

Btw I've moderated games and servers in the past and it's usually not custom to start a political discussion in the forums. Usually the ban process goes something like
1. Notify the recipient of the ban
2. If not obvious, give evidence and explain type of ban
3. Leave
In my case seeing how I am the one who brought up context (I mean it took over half of my ban to even figure out why I was banned and I still have yet to see the evidence), all you have to do is quote this line "Upon breach of any of the following clauses, you acknowledge that you have the right to one appeal in which you may present any evidence of your innocence you wish, after which any decision made by MapleRoyals Staff is final and binding, and you are no longer entitled to any further appeals." and I'd be forced to leave it alone as your decision which I respect is final. This will be my last message regardless and I thank you for looking into my case no matter how unprofessional the entire experience was.
