Good day folks I'm someone that has played maplestory almost religiously up until very recently. One of the features in current maplestory is the hidden potential system. In a way, it works like our godly system; every item dropped has a chance to have potential. Now I have no intention of asking for the potential system, but there is a small part of it that I really like. Whenever an item drops with potential, it has a visual representation and a written representation in chat once it's picked up. A simple "This item has hidden potential" with a ring around it while on the ground. If would work the same with our system except it would read "you've acquired a godly item!". Overall this doesn't change the game, but it allows us to know which items have the godly increase on them. Especially since an item can be godly with grey lettering, sometimes it's hard to tell without looking through every item individually. What do you all think?
I don't know how hard it would be to implement that (It's past 0.83 by a bit if I remember right), a reasonable workaround would be some sort of designation on the item itself because like you said it can be godly with grey stats. Perhaps a star or something, that would make it easy to see in the inventory if you're not the Will Hunting of item stats.
The star idea is very nice. How difficult would it be to add the text upon pickup? But yeah potential was added much after big bang and many things changed with it. I don't think it's worth overhauling the whole system for this idea haha
This has been suggested before: https://royals.ms/forum/threads/notice-when-a-godly-item-is-dropped.8257/ https://royals.ms/forum/threads/godly-item-notification.73700/#post-381198 Basically, the visual hue that you'd see would open the ground for more map looters going for other players' potential godly drops. While the chat notification doesn't pose this risk, it still takes away from the excitement of hovering your mouse over the equip to check its stats, and may also be misleading when picking up equips rolled godly for their worst stats.
I don't know how hard they'd have to work for the text notification. But something that could be done for that visual (inside the inventory at least) would be changing the Godly "Defenses". When you find something godly but grey, is mainly because it has under average defense. Then we could think of either: - Eliminate the high variation of defense on items. - Change the "godly formula" where it calculates which item is either grey/white/blue etc, making it do not care about the defense for such.
I really enjoy the excitement aspect of it though. For example when a weapon drops (i.e.: craven from ulu2 or nisrock from petri) I like for it's stats to become a surprise and if it's godly, the joy of looting it becomes higher. Otherwise in my opinion the person won't care too much of that drop if it doesn't have the godly animation. To give you a scenario that happens to me quite often, if my inventory is full but a craven drops, I tend to throw something away to loot it for a chance that it can be 56att. I reckon it's just one of the quirky aspects of farming
Excuse me Very good point. But do you think the excitement will change much in the end? A godly item can still be garbage essentially, so that time when you go look at it's stats will always be a good moment. It works like that with the potential system. You see it has potential so you know that item is decent, but unlocking the potential is always a gamble that feels exciting. I feel like it changes the entire excitement from looking at the item and splits half of it to the "Oh that Craven was godly!". Even if they don't show a drop notification, only one when you pick it up.
