Privateer got Scammed 200+ bil

I find it funny how some people have derailed and shifted their focus towards Seb - and even to the point of public character assassination. Have we forgotten who exactly is to be blamed for the entire saga?

I would just like to add this perspective to the ongoing discussions: what if the person who received the items isn't a 'veteran'? Would people have reacted the same way in that case? And if not, is the community being fair towards someone who just had to be at the right (or wrong?) place and time?

 

To play devil's advocate and provide a different perspective:

Even though I can't morally justify Seb's actions for initially keeping your equips, I don't think he has any obligation to give anything back, as scummy and wrong as it is. The trust you put in Emily96, who apparently has had a sketchy background that's been suspected and put out to the community, is what played a major role in this situation. If you wanna focus your anger at someone, it's Emily96. I consider it extremely lucky that they even landed in the hands of someone you knew (and that you even got equips back).

From a game standpoint, you lose any right you have to any item when you give (trade) possession of it to someone since there's nothing in the ToS/Rules about lending and borrowing. Possession of an item, unfortunately, means nothing in this game even when it is truly yours, except in hacking cases. It sucks, but it's true until there's any changes in the ToS about when borrowing turns into stealing, and having an intent to keep. "Ownership" remains a huge gray area for MapleRoyals. But it's not as if you got hacked and your items were forcibly taken, because it started with a conscious decision you made. The root of the issue began when Emily96 took your equips because of the union/trust you two had. Yes, she definitely broke that trust, but I just don't think it's fair to say you aren't also partially to blame for putting yourself in a vulnerable position and gloss over that fact. You knew the risks involved with forming a union involving incredibly high valued items. Regardless, Emily96 is still the true problem of this issue, and you were most definitely her victim. That's something nobody can deny. That's what should be focused on. Seb was in the wrong, yes, but I saw no such anger for the person who literally stole and gave up your equips.

What Emily96 did was incredibly wrong, and what Seb did is definitely not considered "right" by any means. This started by a misguided placement in trust to Emily96, and obviously her eventual betrayal. Seb didn't have to give anything back, and he's not (within the rules of the server) obligated to, even though it is wrong, and even though he should. And I get it, I lend my equips to my friends all the time, but if one of them were to take it and run off with it, I have no one to blame but myself, and calling it a scam because of my own gullibility would be completely untrue. Every time I lend something of my mine, I accept the fact that they may decide to never give it back. Everyone, please don't lend out your in-game possessions if you're not prepared to run the risk of losing them.

This reply isn't intended to start a fight or anything. I just want people who read this thread to see it from another point of view. It's awful that your stuff got taken by someone you trusted, and I'm very sorry that it even happened, I get that. And it's even worse that for a time you couldn't get your stuff back from someone you knew. Everyone was at fault for something that caused this situation, Emily96 easily most of all. That's my personal take on it. It's just an overall shitty situation, so feel free to disagree.

You legit got baited into giving 2 years of work to somebody you only talked to in-game. You didn't know their face or voice so you couldn't even confirm your getting catfished, even so who gives away 200b+ after knowing someone for 2 weeks wtf? how badly do you want that pussy juice LOL
Why are you making Seb look like the villain here like its 100% your fault, your legit shifting the blame to hide your stupidity and it makes sense because this is legit the most embarrassing and classic way to lose all your mesos on maplestory since like 06' and you fell for it in 2017 LUL. Thanks for the responses on both sides of this matter, which I expected and also value on both ends, harsh or not! I won't say too much in response yet, but I do want to point out that the catfish and thirsty comments are pretty unnecessary, but very funny xD If it was a guy pixeled character none of these comments would happen. I lend my gear to both male and females and I also have a girlfriend in real life. Don't assume what you don't know, but if you are farming for likes and support, what can I say

I found this very contradicting. Playing the T&C card to keep the cape that means all the scammed items no longer belongs to Jackson. If we go purely by the T&C, the moment iemily took off with those item, those no longer belongs to Jackson, and iemily may choose to "gift" it, drop it, keep it, or do W/E he or she wants (I think iemily is a dude, but that's besides the point).

If that it's strictly T&C we are talking about and trying to use it to defend a decision that is currently withstanding for holding the 19 att cape, then It should be applied to the 121 gun and 24 sock as well.

Iemily gave them to Seb, then Seb can choose whatever he wants with them.

HOWEVER, strictly following T&C this is not the cast because both Ray and Seb both admitted the 121 gun and 24 attack sock still belongs the Jackson, and Seb felt bad and admitted what he did was very wrong (in the screenshots).

So which is it? Going by T&C all three items (gun, cape, and socks) belongs to Seb, and Seb now gifted the 121 gun and the 24 sock to Jackson. BUT stating the 121 gun and 24 sock still belongs to Jackson after iemily "gifted" them to Seb is contradicting, the only logical conclusion I can draw is the 19 cape still belongs to Jackson.

 

If we go by whoever crafted the item is the rightful owner, then I'd think people who sold Jackson the clean sock, people who gachapon the ws/cs Jackson used to make those item should claim a percentage of the rightful ownership to those item as well.

If that is true, I'll need to fight the rightful ownership for everything that I own. I personally have never used a single chaos scroll or scrolling in general. Everything that I "own" right now I bought pre scrolled by someone else.

Long story short is I think the claim that "whoever crafted the item is the true owner of the item" is a load of BS.

 

I don’t know what you’re trying to say but the cape belonged to Emily which she gave to Jackson for him to use till she would come from her break. She actually came back and asked for his stuff to use so she could play again in this case “‘make a video”. So the cape got back to the owner, because Jackson got to use it while she was gone. She then had the choice to do anything she wants with the cape, since Its her cape after all and she decided to give it to me.
So now i am the owner of the cape, since she basically gave it to me and didn’t say anything about me having to return it.

 

Then why not keep the gun and the sock? If we go by the T&C and what Carlos and Ray was saying, you had the ownership on all three items not just the cape.

Why feel bad and admit it was wrong? Why not go all the way stick with T&C and keep all three items?

It doesn't make sense to me if the original owner of the item stays the owner forever.

By T&C the person at the receiving end of the trade or picking up from the ground regardless where it came from are the current owner and has the final say on what to do with them. By T&C you were the rightful owner on all three items not just one out of three. I cannot think of a rule that follows the T&C that explain the situation where the cape belongs to you and gun and sock still belongs to Jackson.

It's either all belong to you or all belong to Jackson IMO. Can't think of a rule or rules that satisfy the current situation.

 

I think the easiest solution is to just give me the cape, then you don't have the problem of seb keeping it and neither of jackson getting it back.

She didn't say she was coming back for sure. She gave the cape to me because she was quitting planning never to come back. If she wanted to come back, why did she give away ALL of her gear? Why didn't she mention that she was just lending it to me? She completely quit so she gave up the cape completely. If she really wanted to give it to you, you are contradicting yourself because you initially didn't know that was her and yet you are so certain that she gave it to you as a personal gift. ???

 

Bro you sound like a clown, that's like me getting a free car with the title, then me LENDING my car for you to use but you drive off and never give it back because it was yours before...Dudes on this forum KILL me for a couple of items because someone just happens to be better than them, but hey, they say all the scammers affiliate themselves in the same circle (just like nerd...who tried to scam me like 2 years ago on an htp by kicking me out of a run, luckily worked my way up and formed my own squad), I'm not surprised.

 

I still love how people try to justify Seb's actions because he loop holed through the TOS, I should've put you on blast when you tried to come up the 1.2bil off me years ago

 

Or the few times he didn’t pay me % split on ht or the other time when I lent him my bow and 2 out of our trio dc and we asked him to leave so we could ask for refund but he ignored us, finished the run without our approval, keeping the money from the buyer, books and my bow overnight. Yeah, excuses excuses. Been there.
