I'm using Windows 10, I tried all of the compatibility mode settings.
I doubleclick the MapleRoyals.exe to run it. It appears for 2 seconds in my task manager under Background Processes, then it program seems to close itself, so nothing happens. The game won't run, I don't even receive any error codes.

Did you make sure to also check the option "Run as administrator" in the same tab as the compatibility settings?

The version of MapleStory that we use for our client was originally designed for Windows XP, before Windows Vista and all the UAC (User Account Control) stuff happened.
Under XP, everything was automatically given administrator level rights. That is not the case with Microsoft's later operating systems.

If you haven't tried this, give it a shot: "Run this program in compatibility mode with: Windows XP SP3" AND "Run this program as an administrator"
Also, the game's not designed for DPI scaling, so check the box for disabling that.

Otherwise, I would check stuff like your internet connection (make sure the IP address the game tries to connect to isn't blocked), and check your graphics card drivers and DirectX stuff.

Also, in trying to make the client run in Wine on Arch Linux, I've noticed that the client instantly crashes without certain Windows DLL files that are related to WebSockets (I'm guessing for creating a persistent connection to a remote server, or something).
If all else fails, you might want to try running Scandisk or something to check if ws2_32.dll is missing or corrupted on your machine.
