Usually, when you cast the mage ultimates (genesis, blizzard, and meteor shower), your character freezes for a couple of seconds before you can do anything. In particular, you cannot teleport during the ultimate's animation.

However, if you press the teleport and the ultimate keys almost simultaneously, you can break this rule and teleport as much as you want during the animation. This technique is referred as "telecasting" by the community. See the following example:

Being able to telecast consistently gives you extra EXP and loot per hour.
    • From my buyers' feedback, telecasting ULU2 leech is 1/3 faster than normal leech. For example, one hour of telecasting ULU2 split leech will level you from 90 to 94 (400% total), while one hour of normal ULU2 split leech only level you from 90 to 93 (300% total).
    • As a result, telecasting allows leech sellers to set a higher price. For example, at the time of writing, ULU2 1-hit split leech usually goes at 35M / H, but consistent telecasters can sell it for 45M / H.
    • I also observed that telecasting gives 10M / H extra loot from meso pickup and NPCed equips at ULU2.
    • More information about leeching with telecasting in this thread!

Now, if doing telecasting is purely a matter of skill, then it's fair for those people to gain more profits from that skill. However, from my tests, I think the keyboard has a large influence on the success rate of telecasting:
    • On a $10 commodity keyboard, I can only succeed 10% of the time.
    • On a $70 mechanical keyboard, I can succeed 95%+ of the time.
    • Some other players have the opposite experience: they are able to telecast flawlessly on a $10 commodity keyboard, but fails to do so on an expensive mechanical keyboard. So think twice before you invest in a mechanical keyboard!

Edit: anecdotal evidence (i.e. @Shiyui 's words) suggests that telecasting successfully triggers when the teleport and ultimate keys are activated within 5 milliseconds of each other.
    • 5ms is a really small tolerance. Pressing 2 keys within 5 ms is definitely not easy.
    • Some tips on how to consistently telecast can be found in the replies of this thread.
    • Flawless telecasting could be achieved via keyboard programming (i.e. artificially send activation signals for 2 keys), but this is against Royals T&C and warrants a permanent ban. See @Jeen 's reply below, and this ban appeal.

I would appreciate more inputs on whether or not keyboard matters for consistent telecasting. However, if it does, then an argument could be made on real-life equipment affecting in-game profits, which is against the spirit of this server.

Personally speaking, I don't care too much. Doing telecasting requires lots of concentration, and may cause finger pain if you don't relax your hands properly, so the extra money made by telecasting sellers is justified in my opinion. However, there might be players who are willing to do so, but are limited by their gaming equipment.

    Potential changes:
    • Make it impossible for any mage to telecast, no matter what keyboard they have.
    • Make it easy to telecast for everyone, no matter what keyboard they have (e.g. make ultimates behave like HS or Maple Warrior).

I don't see a change needing to be made for a 5m/hr difference, it's not game-breaking. If people are willing to do that constantly for an hour straight just to earn a few more mil + equips, they deserve it.

The same argument could be made for people who have better pcs that can load the client faster after a sc to snag the best fm spot. Differing gaming equipment such as faster pcs, better internet connections, gaming keyboards and mouses, etc. is going to exist and make a negligible difference in every single video game. It is impossible to control everything. Sometimes you just gotta accept that life isn't fair ~f8

I agree with you, except on the 5M/H difference. 5M difference in split leech price is 10M difference in total price. The difference in loot could also be 10M / H. So overall there may be a 20M / H difference.

I tried it a little bit, and I have to say it's a tedious thing to do, and quite tiring after a while. If they can do this constantly for an hour, then they deserve the extra 10m 20m income.

That would be bannable, you're not allowed to set a macro to set two actions to a single key.

First at all, i have a $10 keyboard and i can gene + teleport with a 100% chance, no macro need it.
I don't think since you can a bether job them other who can't do tele + gene should be raize the price. This its more personal, but i think if you provive a good job with more exp metod, people usually going to buy you services at future at the market price.
For example, i leech a buddy like 3 weeks ago when he was 91, take me atround 4-5 hours to make it 105, and once he reach 108, he just contact me for skele leech until he get 135.
Not becouse you're special, this should be raize. This its just a personal opinion so i'm free to talk about this.
So i have a razer mouse wish its the naga version (6 macros with 2 specials keys) and tbh i think this its unesesary, since how i say before, with a $10 keyboard you can make this work as well with a 100% chance : D
Also i think this its consider robotic gameplay as well, wish its baneable.

    Hope this help ♡

100% agree with @Funerary that it's all personal - whether you want to use this tiring method to sell leech or not, price should remain as average as can be.
The advantage of using such methods while leech can help you look for buyers that come back to you regularly. Also, I really doubt the type of keyboard affects your success rate though.
Edit: I've heard from one of the GMs that keyboard does affect the easiness of doing telecasting, but I don't have a link to show that. It should still be doable however.

I have 2 laptops and 1 desktop (+1 extra keyboard). Of all these 4 keyboards, my success rate has always been the same. It is probably muscle memory and the feel that you have to go through that determines the success rate of pressing both keys together.

For the combo to go off, 3 buttons have to be pressed together. Left/Right(walk) + (tele+ulti). The left/right key is to be pressed down first to ensure that the tele+ulti combo can take effect. See it as a pre-requisite for the combo to happen. Thereafter, the tele+ulti key has to be pressed simultaneously, there is no order to it. It took me 2 days to get this right so here are some tips to those who want to try...

-Don't press the combo too hard as it will cause left hand fatigue for you mages/bishop
-Try different skill placements on the keyboard to test comfort level. Pressing the keys together is totally different from using them seperately. I have tried R+V, D+V, C+V. I know some people who tried Ctrl+C, Shift+F too. So play around with what you feel most comfortable with.
-Up+tele+ulti works too. That's another one to practice besides knowing just left/right.
-When you succeed a few in a row, don't stop. Let your muscles accustom to doing it in many succession and you'll get used to it easily.

More tips to increase leech speed besides the combo...
-When buffing, go onto a rope/ladder (that is under your feet, not over your head), use your buffs, and get up and continue. Buffing on rope cancels some animation delays.
-Have a rhythm when doing the combo. In petri, I tend to Tele(>>)x3+combo, Tele(<<)x3+combo.
-Get full speed/jump equips (140/123 stat). They help you get around faster in between tele and waste less time on ropes/ladders.
-When you realise you failed 4-5 combo in a row, it's time to take a break. Your left hand has reached fatigue.

I think this is a core function of MapleStory that should just be left as is. It's not just Genesis, I'm pretty sure it's like this with a couple of other skills too. And it's also similar to how if you're a badass pro (like me), you can jump and shoot an arrow at the same time on an Archer.

+1 for detailed analysis and thoughtful discussion regardless. :)

Looks like it is a matter of skill rather than the keyboard. I will do some more experiments with my $10 keyboard XD.

Yeah, mechanics like these (tele-gen, jump-arrow, zerking, hop on/off battleship) are some of the few shining spots of MapleStory in terms of technique.

Doesn't really help though since the attack is still considered fired from where you stand. Looks fancy nevertheless.

If you take a look at my demo video, you will see there is a wave of spawn shortly after the 2nd, 4th, and 6th Genesis. If you don't use teleport-Genesis, you won't be able to position yourself and clear the mobs before these spawns. As a result, the spawns are a lot less due to uncleared mobs.

The general rule is that all actions should map 1:1. i.e. if you press one button on your keyboard, it translates to 1 action in game. Therefore binding two keys into one macro button is not allowed.

This post is amusing. It is a given that better keyboards for gaming having better reaction time, so with that being said. All you really need to do is practice it on the lower tier keyboard lol. I don't see the issue of this as there are other skills(as you have said) that can be combined in a similar fashion to have an "advantage". A measly 5-10 million more isn't a big deal and I'm sure many people agree this is more beneficial than anything else.
I for one can do it on a cheap laptop, which fyi is very low end. The issue your friends may have with not being able to do this technique might be due to the ghosting effect that some keyboards have. I know for me personally, I've had the ghosting issue where you cannot press to keys at the same time for some games, so all I had to do was switch keys until I found the right ones.
