this is for everyone who whine about the ship rides.

You can't make everyone happy. You can only continue to offer a service that aligns with personal and professional goals and vision for whatever it is you do. Chances are if the server did what everyone wanted, it wouldn't do so well, as is the case with most things in life.

 

I never once said that ownership owes us anything, nor that I didn't expect these changes. At the end of the day, I absolutely expect ownership to do nothing about this change, because why would they? They have what they want, and they owe us nothing, as you say. I just think it's a crying shame that literally hundreds of players who have donated cumulative thousands upon thousands of hours playing MapleRoyals are being flat out ignored in favor of the wants of highly privileged individuals who do not even play the game. I will never deny that this server is not ours to control, but I will absolutely whine about it. I will complain, I will protest, because if I were to remain silent, I'd be guilty of complicity. I refuse to be a part of the cause of this widespread negativity.

See the funny thing is that we're not asking for what everyone wanted so much as we're asking for the things that made this server #1 by a longshot - aka what made it do well. In this case, what is what being asked for is quite literally what will make the server do well. And yet it is not being done. Curious, isn't it?

@Evan still hasn’t realized features (although unintentional) like skippable boat rides and the FM button combined with @Matt ‘s vision of the server is what made the server appealing back in the day. People seem to get the wrong idea when we ask for the FM button to come back or when we “whine” about the boat rides and they say “No one’s gonna stop playing because of that”. After years of dedication? Of course not. Those features were clearly not the only things we enjoyed about the server; it was the combination of those features with the old school GMS, the perfect mix for us. I’m absolutely sure many people (myself included) only stayed past the first day because of those features that are no longer available. Now that those features we loved are gone, of course we will make our voices be heard.

Even Electronic fricken Arts recognizes when a vocal part of their community is upset about something, they are willing to listen. They are even willing to concede some artisitc visions they had about certain features within a game to make players happy if people complain. Yet here on Royals where the vocal players constitutes a much larger percentage of the playerbase than any EA title, in many cases consisting of the very foundation of the players who made the server what it is today, they are largely ignored. It saddens me greatly, because Royals is a fantastic server with a great community, but there is room for improvement. Theres loads of things that we can change that remain within the nostalgic perimeters. As @Michael states, Matt doesnt even actively play the game anymore. He's completely out of touch with what works in his own game. Things that worked a year or 2 ago, dont work today. And when he decides to make changes, he doesnt even have to deal with the changes consequences.

 

Now, there's a lot going on behind the scenes. Nothing is instantaneous, and Kevin works very hard, but sometime shit happens (Like the server deciding to jump off the deep end JUST when Kevin goes out to have a life). He's also one person. There's other people working on all sorts of stuff and it comes together to bring everyone updates. I think if people sat down patiently after making their opinions heard, everyone would be pleasantly surprised by what's coming. SoonTM is all I'm going to say ;p

Lack of length/response is not me unintentionally ignoring people, it's just me avoiding a headache.

 

Unless patiently waiting will make boat rides go away than I don't see how this is on topic? (Also I've been patiently waiting for Matt to decide mandatory boats are awful since 2015, I'm done waiting.)

It looked like the original maple gave what the majority of players wanted most of the time. Remember extalia? That server had a patch waaay ahead of royals, but they still had a huge amount of players, more than royals. You wouldn't want a giant crowd like that coming to royals and demanding later patches would you?

Maplestory did whatever it can to lure players and make money, if that meant making player goals much more easily attainable then they didnt.

Royals isn't like that I'm glad for it. I wanna keep using level 70 mules in ToT, skip boat rides, get fast access to any map, have smegas drop from monsters and use a lunchbox as a weapon. That's the spoiled side of me that the owners suppress by sticking to their guns and making sure the game doesn't progress so quickly. Of course it kind of already has and they're SLOWLY trying to correct segments of it which makes a lot of players mad.

 

This thread is literally on the topic of why we are whining about boat rides. I have responded to inform not only OP but any reader why I personally am whining about this topic. If you believe this topic is getting nowhere, perhaps you should use your moderator power to close the topic. There is actually a more productive thread in terms of the boat ride discussion in the feedback section too - my reason for posting in this thread was because someone wanted to know why I am as upset as I am, so I felt the need to share, as many others have.

 

i think the «teleport around» argument for ship rides is ridicioulus

you’re not really tping around in the same way as 5000X servers do, you still have to walk, its just that the 30 minutes break inbetwewn the walking is there

so you cant really compare ~teleport with no ship ride

 

Ship rides originality took so long that I would compare them to teleporting and saving time. It's why so many people are against the change to the point they'll even stop playing.
