I disagree that RWT has no impact. While Charlie and friends probably weren't intending to RWT, many other abusers are. It caused crazy inflation in GMS, so why not here? I doubt it's the main factor, but it's certainly a big one. The trouble is that once there is real life money involved, people will do whatever they can to generate lots and lots of currency.

The thing I don't like about RWT and botters though is that it's just like crime in the real world. It's just so ugggghhhh and I don't want to be around it and it takes from my gaming experience. I completely understand that many of you don't care about this, and might just say "It's just a game though!", but to others of us, it does bother us.

It was a big reason for why I decided to uninstall and go on hiatus from the game (although in saying that, not the biggest. The biggest was honestly that it was starting to take over too much of my life and at 28 years old I have a lot of more important things to be doing with my time to get me where I want to in the real world).

Leech probably has a big impact on inflation, just for the fact that the most popular leeching spot (Ulu 2) just happens to also be the best for making quick mesos by NPC'ing drops. So that's adding actual mesos into the economy, and a lot of it.

The solution to a lot of the issues is probably something like:
    • Get the auto ban system working again. It was one of the most impressive things about this server back when I first joined. It really did set royals apart from other servers.
    • Investigate the kinds of logging that could be done to maximise abuse detection without sacrificing server performance. A few items being logged would detect most of the abuse, and there are many ways it could be implemented. Perhaps even only logging dodgy shit. For example, in the code that handles trades, it could calculate whether or not the trade is suspiciously unbalanced and involving an "abuse" item. If it is, then log it for further investigation. Of course some will be lending/ transferring stuff between accounts, but then I'm sure that it wouldn't take much to run scripts over that data to weed a lot of the innocent stuff out.
    • Some decent mesos sinks. The real game didn't have a well designed economy, because there wasn't enough sinks. It might really be best for the server to go away from nostalgia in that regard and introduce some decent sinks and controls.
    • Maybe even making leeching less appealing by making it that to get leech EXP, the character leeching has to actually have killed something within the last minute.

Maybe we should go closed beta once more... until everything is working again. Sounds like a very terrible idea, but it stops botters and hackers making new accounts endlessly everyday.

Might be a very radical approach, though.

It could work, but I think that the damage has already been done, closed beta would just anger the legit players.

RMT / RWT prevents items that normally would've circulated in the economy (meso based) , that does cause a falsified sense of demand. Many Chaos / White Scrolls are paid for using real life money, if the same amount of chaos / white scrolls were paid for using mesos, the supply of the Chaos / White scrolls would increase and as a result it can directly affect the economy because the increase in supply could cause the prices of Chaos / White scrolls to drop.

To say it is just "another" transaction method isn't exactly wrong either, but at the end of the day Chaos / White scrolls that could've been circulated in the economy that is paid for using digital currency (mesos) isn't and as a result the supply of said chaos / white scrolls will seem less.

Probably goes without saying but I feel like i should.

If hacking and botting was easy to stop, it would have been stopped by now :x

I know that's like common sense but a lot of people are saying that's the issue (and it is, with RWT included I think), but it's not like the staff isn't trying. It's tricky. lol

No one ever said hacking / botting was easy to stop and this is a statement I fully agree with.

There's no such thing as fully preventing hacking / botting because there's always a way around hack prevention software and code, this is something I'm pretty sure every member of the server understands. I think if anything, it's the members of the community expecting some form of preventative measure aside from what we have right now, which is more or less nothing which is extremely disappointing coming from a server of this size.

Which becomes a question of do you want it now or do you want it done right because you (the collective you, the server as a whole) can't have both. We (rightfully so) got roasted for releasing new source before it was ready and now we're trying to get the autobanner working properly and as accurately as possible and we're getting grief for it not being out. It's not easy to account for everything but Kevin's certainly giving it his all to make it happen.

But that's the thing, it all "seems" but it actually isn't. To say that RWT causes a supply decrease of WS/CS in the market for sale (mesos) isn't exactly true. One can buy WS/CS via RWT to then sell it for mesos and thus helping WS/CS circulation in the market.

RWT(sellers) use WS/CS as currency. If there was no max mesos cap, RWT(sellers) wouldn't bother buying WS/CS. They'd just sell raw mesos because it would so much less hassle. So again, RWT isn't what's threatening the economy, it's the various loopholes/tools provided by the game.

While a major part of the community has shown some disgruntlement towards the staff regarding server management, we understand the difficulties that you guys face. It's been almost a year now, yet lots of us are still here.

Its been quite some time since the source has come out, had players (as a whole) not wanted things done right, they would've left long ago. I think it's fair to say that the community as a whole has been extremely patient with staff members and how the server is coming along. No one has ever questioned Kevin's ability or his hard work towards the server.

Sadly, at the end of the day it's impossible for the staff members to keep the whole server happy but some form of communication to give the players a form of excitement and something to look forward to as opposed to mindlessly waiting for certain features to work, such as a developers note that lists things that we should be expecting soon or maybe starting a public polling system on the forums where the staff members will collectively think of features and fixes that need to be implemented quickly and have the community vote on what should be done next.

At the end of the day, certain players are giving staff members grief because they've done the waiting this whole time. It's the patient and loyal part of the playerbase that is starting to speak out against this.

TL:DR release features when they're done right, but be more transparent with what you're doing... it helps keep the players calm and hyped up for certain releases.

    Huh?????

Why wouldn't RWT sellers bother selling WS/CS and why wouldn't RWT participants bother selling WS/CS if there was no meso cap? At the end of the day it is a valuable item that holds VALUE on the server and in the economy. Any high profile item that is easy to hold in stacks (Use Items) and are worth a stupid amount of money (500m) will be used for RWT/RMT purposes because it's easy to carry, easy to transfer, easy to trade, and easy to manage and keep track of.

If you knew anything about RWT/RMTing you'd know that the sellers do not actually sell straight mesos because on many servers it is easier to track and be caught. It's much harder to catch items being transferred to other characters because there are various ways to go about doing it (Merchant shops, dropping, trade) and can be easily modified to look legitimate (trading a scrolled craven for white scrolls / chaos scrolls , then trading the craven back a few days later). This is stuff that happens in the RWT/RMT community.

You do know that RWT/RMT sellers actually purchase said WS/CS with mesos in-order to trade with right? You do know what that means right? They're purchasing said items from merchants using mesos they've gained from botting, scamming, or however they get their mesos and selling them for real life money. Buyers usually have two options when they've purchased WS/CS using real life money , and that's to either sell it or use it themselves. Even if we were to assume that 75% of the people who buy WS/CS with actual money bought it to sell it right back out for mesos (effectively buying mesos), the other 25% are still using WS/CS obtained illegitimately by using real life money, that 25% can easily help with the supply and demand issue that plagues the economy to this day. What this means is, 25% of WS/CS that are dealt through RMT transactions are suddenly NOT in the economy as a result of this (assuming again, they use the scrolls themselves).

You do realize ws/cs is not the only thing RWTers are selling right? Often they will make perfect weapon with the ws/cs they bought with illegal mesos, then they will try and sell them for $$$.

This cycle encourage more people to participate into RWT because normal player cannot out bid or out buy ws/cs from botter/hacker/vote abusers with their ability to generate mesos. When they drive the ws/cs prices up so high people lose incentive to create legit weapon and or people have trouble collect enough ws/cs at reasonable price to buy high value gear from other people. This will result more people participate in RWT because it's a hell lot easier to buy gear from them.

So many people stuck in their own world of imagination can't comprehend that RWT is just an exchange of hands.
Your whole argument is that prices of chaos and white increased so much due to RWTers mass-buying them with botted mesos.

But once a buyer ready to pay in dollar value appears and gets the scrolls, he will put them back on sale to liquidate them into mesos.
How is that gonna inflate the prices if the scrolls are back into running economy soon after?
And if they were in such an exclusive position to be able to buy out entire market then how come we have so many scrolls in the stores left unsold?

CS, WS prices are inflated for various reasons, not just one. RWT in my opinion surely is one of them, but if i'd have to list top5 leading reasons then RWT wouldn't make the podium.
Chaos and white scrolls were always the biggest meso sinks, but since new source update we are lacking a few big meso sinks that were working in old source.

One of obvious big ones are Horntail books, there's just a few of them left on the server and price is only going up the longer the Hortnail is unavailable.
People aren't interested in paying 5x the old source price and would rather wait for Hortnail to be released again to get the book a lot cheaper.
Another big meso sink that is also related to Hortnail is HTP Service which was expensive and also something people had to spend their money on.
We just recently got teleport rocks back but we still don't have safety charms (and we don't lose xp on death yet) so that's another small meso sink that's gone.

You guys need to understand that even though we don't have exact statistics, back in old source an average person would spend let's say around 10% of their money on chaos/white scrolls.
Now that we don't have working big meso sinks the % of money spent on those sinks in old source are moving to other left meso sinks. And the biggest one that's left is chaos/white, so in new source avg person might as well spend like 25% on chaos/white scrolls.

Demand rises, supply stays the same, so price rises. Simple economics, open your eyes.

That's with the assumption that 100% of the users who purchase these scrolls are using them to sell them right back out. That is not the case, there are always users who purchase these scrolls because they're impatient to farm up the mesos to obtain these scrolls themselves.
Otherwise, I agree with everything else you have to say. RWT does affect the economy, but is not the biggest reason why the economy is the way it is.

To have the supply to sell, they have to buy them in game. To keep up supply, they buy at increasing prices.

Just because mesos aren't being created doesn't mean it isn't messing with inflation, hacking isn't used to make the mesos, etc.

Also, you can't tell people to open their eyes when you're pulling stats out of dark places (average players spent 10% of their wealth on WS/CS?? Source? lol)

Bottom line is people disagree with you that RWT has no affect on the server.... and honestly, if it didn't have an affect, it wouldn't be so wide spread and so discouraged across dozens of games over the course of over a decade.

Let's do some math here. If max mesos is 2.147b. 10% of that is 214.7m which can't buy a ws/cs.

Yea 10% is pulling from the dark place, but we need to understand those dark data!

a mesos sink removes mesos from the game. mesos merely changing hands is not a sink.

demand for RWT is met through the supply of hacking and botting. hackers and botters do not care about the price of CS/WS since mesos are worthless to them, so they buy CS and WS out, regardless of the price, thus driving the prices up.

    it is that simple

but of course botters and hackers buying out WS/CS indiscriminately is not the only reason why its inflating so sharply, but it definitely is one of the reasons.
