Not sure if it was allowed to macro-bot if I was at the computer while doing so (studying haha). No harmful intentions, just curious
I suggest you read the Game Terms. https://royals.ms/forum/threads/mapleroyals-game-terms-conditions.86769/
If you - for example - tape down the key that you use to attack while you're still at your computer and watching the screen and reply to people, you should be fine. Macro Botting, using 3rd party programs to do the work for you, is against the rules. But if you do it yourself using your own physical equipment/keyboard, and you're paying attention, it's okay.
Yes, wouldn't this be covered under Moderate Infractions, Number 5? Robotic Play - The act of engaging in robotic or automatic play which allows any character you own to function autonomously or affect any portion of the game without your presence. Punishment: First offense - 7 day ban, Second offense - Permanent ban.
As long as you're there, watching the monitor occasionally, to respond to people and make sure your presence is known, then you should be fine. If you're still at your computer, ready to respond to players who pass by, I think it's fine. I read through so many ban appeals for fun and 90% of macro botters are banned because they fail to respond to people who attempt to talk to them (players and GM's both). I mean, what's the difference when farming by holding a button down with your finger vs. holding it down with tape. As long as you're there, the method in which you attack shouldn't be so controversial. References: https://royals.ms/forum/threads/i-believe-i-was-mistakenly-banned.97817/#post-531151 With you not responding in a timely manner, Elyss found it reasonable to report you & we found it to be pretty obvious from our perspective that you were in fact botting. https://royals.ms/forum/threads/ban-appeal.109682/ I even warped you out to another map, and called you for another 2-3 minutes. https://royals.ms/forum/threads/ban-appeal.109542/ Over a period of at least 5 mins, you were asked by a player to respond because of your repetitive movement of casting skills, however you didn't respond. The player who reported you prompted you for 5 minutes in a row to respond. https://royals.ms/forum/threads/ban-appeal-again.109516/ You exhibit a repetitive pattern and failed to respond to players who were calling out to you. Conclusive Comment by Tim: https://royals.ms/forum/threads/why-am-i-banned.109361/ As long as you're preforming actions you need to be able to reply in a timely matter, you haven't been able to do so thus you will remain banned. Conclusive Comment by Kai: https://royals.ms/forum/threads/ban-appeal.108992/ what do u mean by robotic play? Means spamming Heal (even when no mobs around) and not responding when someone speaks to you for a prolong period of time. Conclusive Comment by Yanir: https://royals.ms/forum/threads/banned.107993/ Even if you are multitasking, you need to be able to reply and pay attention to your client There was a Ban Appeal thread where the guy claimed to have been using his birthday stone to attack mobs, but ended up falling asleep. A GM/Admin replied saying it would have been okay had he been awake and paying attention. TL ; DR - using in-real life items to help you play the game is fine as long as you are attentive and paying attention to the game itself. Looking at GM responses here, you can see that people have been banned after being given the chance to reply to GM's (and failing).
It is absolutely NOT okay to tape down a key or stick something in your keyboard. It will be considered botting even if you can respond. Please see the following for reference. Anything that lets you atk/heal without you physically touching the keyboard is considered botting. https://royals.ms/forum/threads/ban-maybe-a-mistake.75543/ https://royals.ms/forum/threads/banned-for-botting.31295/ https://royals.ms/forum/threads/ban-appeal.108992 https://royals.ms/forum/threads/ban-appeal.78264/
Lol. You even quoted one of the threads I used for backing my evidence. All of the threads you quoted resulted in the banning of the player because they DID NOT RESPOND while using an item to attack. I went back to the threads you quoted and found the quote explicitly saying they got banned for "autonomously attacking while being afk/not responding." Like I mentioned before, as long as you are at your computer, responding to people and not just mindlessly afking, you're fine. Being able to respond to a player's prompt proves 2 things: You are at your computer You are paying attention to the client These are the 2 conditions required to not be considered "botting." The method in which you use to indulge in the game, be it using personal body parts or physical items that belong to you, shouldn't matter as long as you are "playing" the game while being present and aware.
Taping your key down is, by staff definition, botting. If you are there and responding despite your key being taped down, you just won’t ever get caught. You’re still definitively breaking rules, and if you tell people you do it, you will probably be banned for believable claim. If you steal from an abandoned store, is it still stealing?
Admission to putting something on your keyboard will get you banned, even if you respond. It's breaking the rules, period. https://royals.ms/forum/threads/banned.104914/#post-581214 Here is a post by Kai that states that putting something heavy there is botting, without any mention of you needing to be there or not.
Interesting. How about the Hurricane of bow master? You can literally click outside the window. It will auto attack for you if no damage is taken
I mean, I'm sure anyone has access to something they could put on their key for an extended period of time. Just like your finger. And you would have control over said object. Charlie has mentioned that you need to have "full control" over your character, and placing an object on a key for attacking gives you control since you can take it off just as easily as lifting your finger off. =========== But since Evan said so.
Tfw an ex admin and an ex GM aren't good enough, but Evan who isn't allowed to pass judgment on ban appeals as a Forum Mod is :c (You're still cool Evan, sometimes I guess)
Not trying to say your answers weren't credible. I wasn't even aware you (and apparently someone else?) were ex-staff. That - and Kai liked my post saying that taping down keys is A-Okay, so I just assumed it was okay, since he didn't correct me.
